Review: Shiseido Sheer Matifying Compact Powder Foundation

Here's a review on Shiseido Sheer Matifying Compact Refill in 080

THE VERDICT:

I really love Shiseido because I think they make the best powder foundations in the planet. I already hit pan on my Perfect Smoothing Powder Foundation so I got myself another one but this time, it's their Sheer Matifying Compact. Actually, my first Shiseido pan still has a long way to go. The small dent was just the perfect excuse to try another Shiseido foundation. Haha!

According to Shiseido, the Sheer Matifying Compact is:

DESCRIPTION:

An oil-free powder foundation that maintains a silky-smooth touch and a natural sheer matte finish all day long. Can be applied with a dry or moistened sponge.
  • Ultra-fine powders fit seamlessly onto skin to minimize the appearance of pores, dullness, spots and freckles while providing sheer coverage.
  • Contains Super Oil-Absorbing Powder to target excess oil and maintain a fresh-looking finish.
  • Formulated with moisturizing ingredient, Super Hydro-Wrap Vitalizing DE.
  • Contains Micro-Smoothing Complex,* a Shiseido-exclusive ingredient that protects against the harmful substance that accelerates decline in barrier function, which can cause skin roughening.**

If I remember it correctly, O80 is the darkest shade from this line. My shade match in the Perfect Smoothing line is the same, but I find that Sheer Matifying's 080 fares a wee bit lighter than the former. Fortunately, it doesn't leave any white cast, nor does it look considerably light on my skin.

Sheer Matifying is a powder foundation line formulated for people with Combination to Oily skin. It's dry and sheerer than Perfect Smoothing. The texture and consistency of Sheer Matifying helps keep oil at bay while giving your pores some room to breathe.

The reason why I love Shiseido's Powder Foundation is because it's unbelievably lightweight on the skin, and it makes you look almost perfect without being unnatural. There is actually a powder swatch on my hand, but it's almost invisible in here. That just goes to show you how finely- milled Shiseido's powder foundations are!

See how Sheer Matifying has fared on me:

One layer of Sheer Matifying Powder Foundation

Notice how it has absorbed my oilies effectively. It also gave my face a youthful glow-- thanks to its dewy matte finish. The powder's so saturated with pigments that it can effectively even out skintone, diminish the appearance of protruding marks, and cover discolorations!

APPLICATION TIP: Drag the sponge lightly on the powder, and gently dab on face. If you find the coverage too thick for your liking, get a powder brush or fan brush and lightly sweep it across your face to get rid of excess powder.

With two layers of the powder foundation

Lovely finish, ain't it? Shiseido's powder foundations are so easy to use, economical, and glams you up in no time. Staying power is pretty great. It lasts a good 4-5 hours on me-- without retouching. On the 6th hour and so, I find that it fades for a just a wee bit, but it's okay with me! I like wearing this when I only have 5 minutes to prepare, but I still want to look fabulous. I like wearing this when the weather is freakishly hot too. The powder comes in a variety of shades that are very friendly to people with yellow undertones, so finding your perfect match is very possible.

Another reason to love Shiseido: The case is a one- time investment. My Shiseido compact is a little over two years old, and it's still alive and kickin'! My mom's compact is around 4 years old already! But of course, I am also taking care of it that's why it's still working.

If you're looking for a great powder foundation, Shiseido is the first brand that you should check out. And I know a lot of beauty bloggers will agree with me! :)

  12. Hey there Martha! :) I'm not sure if my question should have been considered a Fan Mail Friday, but nevertheless, I hope you can answer my question:

Ever since I started using this powder foundation, my face would show white casts in pictures - yikes! I'm not sure if it's because of the powder, my sunblock (which has SPF 30), I have an acidic face, or because I don't have the right color of foundation for my skin tone. And how can I prevent it?

Also, because my face is acidic, if my face is not too light, it's too dark. Have you ever experienced this? Help! TIA!

  13. bien: Hi Bien! You might have chosen the wrong shade, or your spf is giving off that white cast. :) Try moisturizers with invisible spf protection such as mario badescu. :) No, I don't have acidic skin so I haven't experienced that. If you have acidic skin, go for something lighter because it will turn dark on you after a few minutes. :)

  14. Juz: Hi Juz! Haven't seen the shade L20 in any shiseido counters though, but OC means Ochre, which is good for those with yellow to olive skin tones. :)

    1. both are good, but I'll go for perfect smoothing because I've always been a coverage gal and this one has great coverage. :)
