THE VERDICT:

The moment I tried this product on, I was immediately reminded of the period plays I had joined in college, and the bevy of classical films I had watched in some of my theatre classes. In other words, this lipstick evokes the classical glamour, specifically of the 1920’s—pure, tasteful, and mysteriously provocative glamour that has positioned the 20’s as the ultimate timeless era. Incidentally, Gabrielle is inspired by the classical red lipstick, and the Rouge Coco line is an homage to the life and legacy of Mademoiselle Coco Chanel.

Ingredients

The Rouge Coco lipstick is infused with Hydratendre complex, a special ingredient that hydrates, softens, smoothens, and plumps lips. It also boosts the lips’ ability to retain moisture for a healthier looking pout all day long.

ROUGE COCO GABRIELLE 19 IN DETAIL:

I love its elegant, gold and black- toned packaging. ‘Nuff said.

Gabrielle is considered by many beauty bloggers as a true red shade. I agree, but I’d like to add that it’s a classical kind of true red, not the modern one. In my opinion, the classical true reds are a little brighter and orange- based, while the modern ones are a little deeper and blue- based.

Consistency is very creamy, pigmentation is good, and texture is very soft. It's not obvious here but in person, this lipstick has very small gold glimmers, which contribute to the lovely sheen of this lipstick. Finish is semi- matte. Staying power is so-so though, which is a letdown. Well, I retouch my lipstick every so often during wear so it can't be considered as a caveat after all, at least to me.

ROUGE COCO GABRIELLE 19 IN ACTION:

I find that this shade is quite a chameleon: It's brighter on ladies with fair skin tone, and warmer on ladies with dark skin tone. On both complexions, the orange tinge is still present, making it the ultimate classical red. This lipstick has teeth brightening properties too!

It keeps lips smooth during wear. However, on girls with severely dry lips, you may need to scrub off the dry areas first before wearing this lipstick as it may emphasize rough areas.

Overall, I still love it because the caveats are quite unimportant in my opinion. There's something about this lipstick that makes me feel sophisticated and classy whenever I have it on. I don't know-I guess it's the combination of red, black, and Chanel? Perhaps.
