THE VERDICT:

So here's my take on Stila's best- selling Beauty Balm. Initially, I thought it was a BB Cream, since anything with the word "Balm" on it automatically reminds of me of Blemish BALM creams.

Stila's Stay All Day 10-in-1 HD Illuminating Beauty Balm comes in two other variants: The original HD Beauty Balm, and HD Bronzing Beauty Balm. Stila didn't quite say what exactly this product is, but I think it's a hybrid of tinted moisturizer, primer, and serum.

STILA STAY ALL DAY 10-IN-1 HD ILLUMINATING BEAUTY BALM IN DETAIL

The product comes in a lightweight plastic tube with a pretty frosted champagne color. It's nice to know that it is water- resistant, but I would've appreciated it more if Stila had included the ingredients list in the tube. The ingredients list of this product can be found in Stila's official website, and I'm cross- posting it for you guys:

Water/Aqua, Cyclopentasiloxane, Dimethicone, Hydroxypropylcocoate PEG-8 Dimethicone, Oryza Sativa (Rice) Bran Extract, Dimethicone Crosspolymer, Polymethylsilsesquioxane, Pyrus Malus (Apple) Fruit Extract, Glycerin, Isopentyldiol, PEG/PPG-18/18 Dimethicone, Triethoxycaprylylsilane, Sodium Chloride, Phenoxyethanol, Caprylyl Glycol, Ethylhexylglycerin, Hexylene Glycol, Phytic Acid, Silica, Palmitoyl Tripeptide-37, Pisum Sativum (Pea) Extract, Glucosamine HCl, Bambusa Vulgaris (Bamboo) Leaf/Stem Extract, Algae Extract, Artemisia Vulgaris (Mugwort) Extract, Sodium Hydroxide, Citric Acid, Fragrance/Parfum, Limonene,Hexyl Cinnamic Aldehyde, Butylphenyl Methyl Propional, Linalool May Contain (+/-) Titanium Dioxide (CI 77891), Iron Oxides (CI 77499, CI 77492, CI 77491)

The HD Illuminating Balm only comes in one shade, and it's a light beige shade with a mix of peach and yellow undertones. It yields a faint white cast in pictures, but it can be remedied by any of my shade- matching setting powders. Consistency is rich and creamy, and texture is buttery and smooth: (Just like Tinted Moisturizers) It moisturizes skin upon contact and feels very pleasant to use. I also appreciate the fact that even if it's an illuminating balm, it does not contain crazy glitters in it. Its fragrance reminds me so much of Laneige Snow BB Soothing Cushion's floral, sunblock- like scent--those who are not partial to the scent of sunblock may be turned off by this product.

STILA STAY ALL DAY 10-IN-1 HD ILLUMINATING BEAUTY BALM IN ACTION

Two layers of HD Illuminating Beauty Balm

When used on its own, it looks a little pale, albeit it yields a nice incandescent glow to my skin. I use a stippling brush to apply this product to prevent it from lightening up my skin tone. Coverage is light to medium. I didn't really bother observing its water- resistant promise, but I can say that it has good staying power: It stays intact for the whole day with minimal fading and my oilies come out after 1 1/2 hours, but it's not the greasy, slick type. It's a little sweat resistant too.

I've used it for 2 weeks straight and I've noticed that my skin felt more hydrated because it looked more dewy and plumper. (in a good kind of way)

To sum it up, I think this product is more of a foundation booster because it has poor coverage, but a great illuminating effect. I could also consider it as a primer because I've also noticed that it makes foundation last a little longer. This primer/foundation booster is very good for people with dry skin, and for those who are looking for a beneficial illuminating primer. For people with oily skin, it's an okay product because it does not aggravate oilies, but it does feel a little thick on the skin. (Based on my experience)

  4. beauty balm basically, when comes to korean cosmetics, works to smooth out and even out skin "smoothness" so I guess you use this "before" the foundation?

  5. How do you think this will fare with oily skin?

  6. Yanny: Yeah, you could say that. I actually think it can pass off as a bb cream. And I agree, it's pricey. :p

Miz Eloise: Yup, especially for dry skin

Jaja: True that. But in my experience, good makeup bases are around this price too. :)

Joan: Hi there! Good question. I have oily skin, and in my experience, it didn't aggravate my oilies naman so I think it's pretty okay. just don't apply too much or else, you'll get that thick feeling on your skin. :)

    Cintamuni: Exactly. :)
