THE VERDICT:

The toughest makeup to remove are waterproof mascara and eyeliner that's why I have to use more of my HG Shu Uemura Cleansing Oil to take them away completely, hence I am starting to run out of it faster than expected. I decided that from now on, I'm going to use cheap makeup removers for the eyes (and lips for persistent lip stains and matte lipsticks too) so I can prolong my precious cleansing oil.

Recently, I have received a bottle of makeup remover from an online store called Updated Trends. It's from a brand called Face of Australia, an affordable Australian (duh) makeup brand.

Gentle Makeup Remover is a dual- phase, oil- free, Paraben- free remover that lifts makeup from your skin gently yet effectively. Its tear- free formulation is made with soothing Cornflower extract, a naturally- derived ingredient that has intrinsic lightening properties. Tear-free??? Now that sounds wonderful!

Normally, dual- phase makeup removers contain oil at the topmost level of the mixture to help loosen up the polymers of waterproof mascara and films of waterproof eyeliners. For this product, instead of oil, it contains a rich emulsion that feels very moisturizing and has a semi- cooling effect. I don't know how it does it, but it is indeed effective in removing my toughest waterproof mascaras namely K-Palette and Majolica Majorca. (easily at that) True to its promise, it doesn't sting the eyes! If used on the lips, it leaves a slight bitter taste, but you can remove it completely with water. It has a light floral fragrance.

How To Use:

For the Eyes: Apply 3-4 drops on a cotton pad, press onto your lids for a minute, then gently slide the pad downwards to remove mascara. Repeat as necessary

For the Face: Soak a cotton pad with the product and sweep all over the complexion. Repeat as necessary.

I only use the product to remove makeup from my eyes and lips. It's also good at removing face makeup, but my Shu Uemura Cleansing Oil takes care of that for me.

This product is quite economical: Since it's very good at removing waterproof makeup, I only have to use two cotton pads, one for each eye. I think this bottle will last me for a good 3-4 months.

It doesn't leave my face dry and tight after every use. Overall, this is good stuff and I'll be buying it again because its size is okay, it's very gentle, and it's the only affordable makeup remover with skin caring properties I know.

  6. Same question here, I wonder how it compares to Bifesta? Price-wise, they're both competitive. If Bifesta has 1 advantage, it is its availability in physical stores. I'm not really a fan of online shopping when it comes to makeup products because I want to be able to see, touch, smell and even test the product before purchasing it. I hope they distribute it in stores in the future. Thanks for the review Ms M!

Dana: Updated Trends, my dear. :)

Kris and BrownOso: Bifesta is just like water, whereas this remover has an emulsion feel to it. :)

Eloise: Bifesta should be good enough for you since you don't really like wearing waterproof makeup. :)

    Jec: You'll love it! :D

    Marjorie: Indeed! :D
