THE OILY BIBLE: Skin Care (Part I)

Welcome to the OILY BIBLE. I have searched and scoured various beauty stores for the best products that will reduce, battle, and keep shine at bay, and found a couple of jewels in my quest. I wrote this simply because as an oily- skinned gal myself, I know how sucky it feels to look slick and greasy especially on very important events-hopefully, girls who have the same skin type as mine would find refuge in this three- part post.

Why remedy oily skin? Vanity- wise, oil makes your face shine on the parts that may make your face look plump and chunky. It also makes makeup fade considerably, and keeps you from looking fresh and pretty. A good amount of oil on your facial skin is okay, but too much of ain’t. It clogs pores because it attracts more dirt.

The OILY BIBLE is divided into 3 chapters: SKIN CARE, TREATMENTS, and MAKEUP

Welcome to the first chapter! Here’s a list of some of the best products that will make your skin fresh and clean!

FACIAL WASH

VMV’s Spring Cleaning Gentle Cleansing Cream (P560.00)

Unscented, Mild, Fragrance- Free, and Hypoallergenic. It keeps skin matte right after rinsing, and the formulation prevents excessive oil from oozing out of your pores. Does not leave your face dry and rough.

Kiehl’s Yerba Mate Cleansing Gel (P1,050.00)

Yerba Mate is good in extracting dirt hidden deep inside your pores. It also takes away excessive oil from the surface. Gentle Formulation. Contains Natural Extracts. Fragrance- Free. Mild. Kiehl’s is an earth- friendly brand too!

Etude House AC Clinic Acne Foam Cleanser (P395.00)

Oily skin is a bit prone to acne. Etude House’s Cleansing Foam contains pimple- busting ingredients such as Salicylic Acid. It keeps your face feeling fresh right after rinsing, and prevents “landmines” (aka pimples) from sprouting.

Celeteque Hydration Facial Wash (Starts at P100.00+)

Gentle, low- foam, and fragrance- free formula rids your skin of excess sebum and dirt whilst keeping it smooth and visibly hydrated. It's in gel form so it doesn't have cream or silicone ingredients that might clog pores.

Yves Rocher Pure System Daily Exfoliating Cleanser (P500.00)

A facial cleanser-slash-exfoliating cleanser that refreshes skin, dislodges pores, and helps you 'pop' pimples gently and safely: It has micro scrubbers made from ground Apricot shells that help create a tiny laceration on a pimple's white eye for you to extract it easily.

TONERS

Kiehl’s Blue Astringent Herbal Lotion (P1,150.00)

Acts upon application: Dries out excess oil, tightens pores, and keeps it dry for a little while, and then lets skin produce a wee bit of oil for skin moisturization. I love it!

Kiehl’s Ultra Facial Toner (P1,050.00)

A gentle hydrating toner that keeps skin supple and smooth, and it's the only creamy toner that didn't aggravate my oily skin.

Muji Light Toning water (Around P500.00+)

Cheaper alternative to Kiehl’s Ultra Facial Toner. Gentle, makes skin bright, keeps it fresh, and smooth. It hydrates your skin surface effectively so your pores won't produce more oil than what's needed.

Clinique Clarifying Lotion 3 (P1,200.00 for 400ml)

One of the best toners in my opinion. It shrinks pores and takes away deep- seated dirt and oil while helping your skin recover quickly from pimples.

MOISTURIZER

Kiehl’s Ultra Facial Cream (Starts at P1,500.00+)

Great to use even on dry skin. It has plant extracts that keep skin moisturized and supple all day. It’s lightweight, which makes it perfect for our humid weather.

Kiehl’s Ultra Facial Moisturizer (Starts at P900.00+)

Hydrates skin after toning. It keeps skin soft and smooth all day, and it's made with oil extracts that mimic your skin's natural sebum-so goodbye slick and grease!

Kiehl’s Blue Herbal Moisturizer (Around P1,200.00+)

Acts as a mattifying moisturizer and primer. What more can you ask for?

FACIAL MASKS

Queen Helene Mud Mask with Natural English Clay (Around P300.00+)

Declogs pores by lifting excess oil along with the impurities in it. Keeps face matte after usage. The Rose scent is a plus too!

Jericho Facial Collagen Mask (Around P3,000.00+)

It's actually an anti- aging mask, but I treasure it for its smoothening and slight pimple- taming effect. Dead Sea Water is very rich in Zinc, an ingredient that helps minimize breakouts. In my experience, this mask has prevented pimple eruptions and helped me stall breakouts.

Aztec Secret Indian Healing Clay (Around P360.00)

Clay, without a doubt, is the best cleanser for oily skin. This new favorite of mine is made from Calcium Bentonite, the richest and most nutritious clay in the world. I used it a lot during summer because it has the ability to keep skin oil- free and matte for hours even on its own!

Yves Rocher Pure System Pore Clearing Mask (P400.00)

Perhaps the fastest- acting mask I've ever used. Aside from its oil- controlling effect, it also minimizes the throbbing pain and redness of fresh zits right after rinsing!

Part 2, Treatments, coming tomorrow! :)
