FAN MAIL FRIDAYS: Can Rebonding Cause Hair Fall?

Helloooo and happy Friday girls! Here's another pretty useful and informative FMF query from one of my avid readers, Ravene. :)

Hello Martha
I have been following your blog for a while. And must I say this my fave beauty blog! It keeps me sane  from the stressful requirements I have at work, I love, love reading you reviews, all of 'em. Skin care reviews being my ultimate fave. Anyway, recently I just had my hair rebonded and after a week I noticed that I'm shedding a lot of hair. Being the paranoid that
I literally started to count :( and grabe I think I'm shedding more than 100! I'm scared, the thing is even before i had my hair treated I'm experiencing the same problem. Help! if you can recommend any organic or natural products out there.

Thanks and more power! :)
xoxo,
Ravene

Hi Ravene!

Before I answer your real question, I'd like to address first and foremost this important issue: the correlation between Hair Rebonding and Hair Loss.

Hair Loss is one of the negative results from Hair Rebonding because the latter involves the use of harsh chemicals that may not be tolerated well by sensitive hair and scalp. However, Hair Loss is caused by a lot of factors and isn't necessarily a direct adverse reaction from Hair Rebonding. The former can be induced by Stress, poor diet, health problems, or genetics predisposed to Alopecia, and the latter only enhances it.

I think the problem stemmed from you having your hair rebonded with a slight hair loss problem to begin with. I don't want to scare you, but I'd have to be honest and tell you that it could get worse so better consult with a dermatologist now to address the problem before it goes out of hand.

After being treated and your dermatologist prescribes gentle, all-natural, and organic hair products to you, here are some of my recommendations, but consult with your doctor first before usage! Check out my list after the break.

- It's an all-natural hair cleansing brand with zero petroleum by-products, silicones, sles, sls, and parabens. Argan Oil is rich in Linoleic Acid and Vitamin E that will help restore the scalp.

ABSYNTHE BATH AND BEAUTY PURE ARGAN OIL

- At night time, treat your scalp and hair with Absynthe Bath and Beauty's all- over pure Argan Oil so the beneficial ingredients in it will strengthen your roots and scalp as you sleep.

If you want a more accessible and affordable all- natural hair cleansing products, go for Human Heart Nature.

Macadamia Nut Oil is found to be beneficial to hair strands because it strengthens the cuticle, thus making hair more resistant to breakage.

Davines is a legit organic hair care brand. Their hair products smell so relaxing and kinda' help balance your well- being too.

SNOE HAIR HEROES AGENT ZERO CLEANSING SERUM

- Snoe has just released a Hair Heroes variant that's zero sulfate, silicones, and fragrance, making it good for those with sensitive scalp and hair. It also contains Seaweed, Coconut, and Mayweed extracts.

SNOE BEAUTY OIL FOR ALL ARGAN OIL

- Snoe has an Argan Oil too and you can use it on your scalp and hair strands aside from your face and body.

Hope your hair loss problem gets resolved soon, Ravene!

  2. Oooh..scary! That's the side effect pala of rebonding. I guess falling hair is really the problem of all girls. It's true that stress, poor diet, etc are the cause hair fall..But I think it's also in the shampoo din that she uses kaya madami falling hair. I'm using mild shampoo before, but when I ran out of it I switched to other shampoo that my mom brought. It's too strong that after I wash it, I got so many hairs on my hands, not the usual that I expected. So I stopped using it and switched to mild shampoo again. But we're different case. :) yes, she needs to consult first with a derma. :) Hope her hairfall problem will soon be resolved. :)

  5. Hairfall can actually be either of two things: shedding or breakage. I think unhealthy hair, when rebonded, becomes more prone to breakage hence falling.

Another factor in shedding that I don't think was mentioned is hair weight, either from product buildup or length.

It's not organic but I found Dove hairfall rescue products to be effective on me.

  9. i never had any more-than-normal hair fall when i had my hair rebonded a few years ago... maybe because i had short hair then... i never even took care of my hair then... it was just wash and wear... now that i have very long hair, it seems that i have more hair falling... or maybe it just seems that way because they're long and it looks like more hair.. i'm not sure... but because i had it digipermed last year, i'm taking more care now... i use argan oil, VCO, and MoringaO2 oil interchangeably... i leave it on at night and just shower in the morning..
