THE VERDICT:

The secret to perfectly- lined lips is no doubt, a lip liner: It prevents lipstick from bleeding and lets you draw your lips to perfection. BUT-ain't nobody got time fo' that, especially me who's always out the door every single day! Thank God I was blessed with a pair of nicely- shaped lips, but I have to say that if I use lip liner, my lips look even better!

That said, I am proud to introduce to everyone yet another innovation from Bobbi Brown called the Art Stick, the perfect marriage of lipstick and lip liner in one nostalgic crayon pencil. With this, you can line and color your lips in just a few, easy, and quick strokes!

BOBBI BROWN ART STICK IN HARLOW RED IN DETAIL

Art Stick is a multitasking, pigmented lipstick+liner that's perfect for your PRO or daily makeup needs. Claims to stay for up to 6 hours without drying the lips, thanks to its Shea and vegetable- derived oils. Product comes in 8 shades.

The whole thing reminds me of Clinique's Chubby Sticks and Revlon's Colorburst Balms, but this one is wooden and requires the Art Stick sharpener, plus it's a little bulky too.

Swatches after the break!

The only downside of this product is it can only be sharpened with the Art Stick- exclusive sharpener. I dunno if this one's for sale individually or comes for free when you purchase Art Stick-if it's the latter, then that's awesome!

Addendum: As per one of my readers, Shary DC, the sharpener comes for free with the product. Yay! :D

BOBBI BROWN ART STICK IN HARLOW RED IN ACTION

Harlow Red is described by bobbibrowncosmetics.com as a 'True Bright Red'. Indeed, that's what it is, but on my skin tone (which is warm, btw), it appears somewhere in between mellow and bright, the perfect red to wear to work because it's not that striking and not that serious- looking!

There are two ways to use this product:

As a Lip Liner: Art Stick has a pretty huge tip and it's not as precise as a regular lip liner, but the former works two ways: If you want to get fuller lips, line the borders of your lips with the product, but if you want to only enhance the current shape of your lip, just apply the product right underneath the borders.

As a Lipstick: Simple. After lining, just fill in your entire lip with the color!

I was expecting that the texture would be hard and consistency would be drying since it's pencil, but it was utterly creamy, as creamy as Bobbi's regular lipsticks (actually, it really feels like a lipstick). Finish is semi-matte with a hint of moisture and true enough, it stays intact for hours and can even survive a meal. When it fades, it does so gradually without bleeding and smearing, and transfers minimally on straws, cups, and glasses. My dry lips love its consistency!

This is a very good, versatile overall lip color, but some might have an issue with its ginormous size. Other than that caveat, I can't think of anything else! I'd love to get the Dusty Pink Art Stick because Bobbi makes the best neutral pinks in my opinion! :)

  1. I think the sharpener is included in the purchase of the art sticks. I remember asking in one of the Bobby Brown counters. :D Beautiful color btw!

  2. It looks so perfect and I'm sure that the feel is luxurious. (I haven't found a Bobbi Brown product yet that hasn't performed nicely.) But why, oh, why did it have to come in the form of a pencil? Here I was thinking hindi na uso ang kailangan ng sharpener, but I was wrong. I wish they did a twist-up type instead, like what they did with the cream shadow stick.

It's also a bummer that you have to go out and buy that sharpener. Baka naman yung size pa alanganin, and only the Bobbi Brown one fits properly :( --Matromao

  3. Wow, the shade is so red. Haha. But it's super pretty. It's also like the Nyx jumbo stick but Nyx is cheaper. It also needs to be sharpen. I'm using Nyx right now and I'm satisfied with how it colors my lips. It doesn't make my lips dry as well. And it's so easy to use. :) I think I've also seen one in Jordana stalls.

  4. Hi Martha!

One of the "Pros" of this product is that it comes with its own sharpener. It would be very hard to find a sharpener that would fit this product. :)

Anyway, the shade looks really nice on you. It looks very pigmented and looks extra creamy.

  5. Most of the lipliners are very drying to the lips. After 3-5 hours, my lips tend to get flaky. Buti nalang this one is not drying. It has good color payoff too! Looks great with morena skintone.

  6. is that a sample/deluxe size or is that full-sized already? seems to be a very short for Php1500... but i really love the shade... perfect red for yellow-based morenas, looks great on you!

  7. As what i've read on different beauty blogs before, the key to a long lasting colored lips was to coat it with a lip liner and thats the time you'll use lipstick. Reading this blog, this lip liner is already enough to make our lips sexy. Thanks for this post. Quite expensive but worth the budget. Perfect for a fine dining date. ♥

  11. I don't think any girl could have enough red lipsticks. I'm definitely getting this one, though I wish it's more matte. I prefer it that way, and yeah, I hope the sharpener comes free with it. Yay, I'm excited to get this!

  13. The shade is very nice, I think it can actually suit my skin tone! While I am for artsy and vinatage-y packaging, I think I'll have a love-hate relationship with Bobbi Brown's Art Stick. I guess I'm just afraid that if I lose the BB sharpener, I'll have a hard time finding another one!

  14. Unlike most jumbo lip pencils that offer a balmy feel, Art Sticks are a true lipstick and feel like a lipstick. The tapered cap is really cute, too. But what’s even cuter is, she includes a jumbo-sized sharpener with every pencil! No gimmicks of having to buy a separate sharpener. Yay!

  16. Bobbi Brown is so kind to give sharpener in every purchase of this gorgeous art stick. Its like hitting 2 birds in one stone. Haha. So intelligent and practical, love the idea :) Anyways, back to this super-aawweessooommmee lip liner, I can't say anything but wow!! How come this stick is non-drying than other prods out there. Gaadd. Just amazing! So creamy finish, and it looks so good on you Ms. Martha, its the perf gorgeous red shade for you. :) What bobbi says about this product are all true. A must try of every woman!

  17. AishaKith: yes, it's worth it, at least to me! :)

Aegeane: Hitting two birds with one stone is indeed the best idiom to describe this product! :) Nice one!

Marie: Yes! It feels just like lipstick and that's what I love about it-I'm a true blue lipstick gal! :D

Rita: Agree! And pink- toned lippies too! :D

    Rizza: Hey there! Enjoyyy! :D

Sincere: Nope, it's non-drying because it has conditioners in it. :D

Jean: Hmmm…maybe we can request for a replacement even at a certain cost (hopefully, it's just minimal!) from Bobbi Brown? But I do get your point- I hate it when I lose really important stuff hehe. :D

Juvy: It's a great christmas gift for yourself though! *enabler mode on :D

Jona: Thanks for letting us know an affordable dupe! :)

Katrina: Yup, that's true, but Art Stick can do both. :)

Cat: It's the actual size-don't let the photo fool you because this thing is quite big in actual! :)

Jenny: Yup! agree, I also believe it will suit a variety of Filipina skin tones. :)

Shary and Becomingsleek: Hey Girls! Thanks for the info! :D

Abegaill: I have heard a lot about Nyx's jumbo sticks before-I should give it a try soon! :)

Foodworldme: As per Shary, the sharpener comes for free when you buy the product so no need to worry about that. :) I'm actually liking the pencil form because it's so vintage-y plus it wont break on the base unlike automatic lip crayons. :)
