THE VERDICT:

My family and I prefer celebrating the New Year at home, but even if that's the case, I still wear eyeshadow anyway! It's the New Year, what the heck! Anything goes! :D

My EOTD for today is courtesy of Smashbox On The Rocks Photo Op Eye Shadow Luxe Palette, which I have been using to all my holiday parties ever since I got it-it's got an ample amount of eyeshadows (28 colors 'yo!) and the right balance of colors to help me create whatever look I want. I was lusting over LORAC's famous Mega Pro Palette, but that lust had waned when I got my hands on these-I actually like the shade combination in this palette better than LORAC's!

SMASHBOX ON THE ROCKS PHOTO OP EYE SHADOW LUXE PALETTE IN DETAIL

This palette features 28 of Smashbox's best- selling Photo Op Eyeshadow range. Palette includes a variety of shades from neutrals, to blues, to purples, to greens, and to nudes in matte, frost, metallic, shimmer, and matte+shimmer finishes.

Ingredients

Packaging is carton with added cushioning to give that luxe feel and I love the holographic design on it too-reminds me of Jem and the Holograms!

Swatches overload and the looks I came up with with the palette after the cut! ;)

Open the palette and you'll be welcomed by a buffet of gorgeous colors! If you noticed, the colors were randomly (yet strategically) placed in the palette regardless of the finish and shade, as if the whole thing is already giving you an idea on which shade goes well with what and spoon-feeding you with color combinations-great. That's just so convenient! Oh, that faux crystal in the middle is a nice touch too!

The only weakness of this palette is the shades don't have names on them so sorry, I can't tell you the name/s of the shade/s you're eyeing and would want to purchase individually. :p

The Neutrals

L-R:

1. Cream (matte)
2. Powder pink (matte)
3. Chocolate brown (matte)
4. Copper (metallic)
5. Sheer silver (frost)
6. Midtone beige (matte)
7. Sheer gold (metallic)
8. Icy white (frost)
9. Sea green (metallic)
10. Coffee brown (matte with shimmer)

The Blues and Purples

L-R:

11. Vintage violet (matte with shimmer)
12. Lilac (frost)
13. Midtone violet (frost)
14. Lilac-white (matte)
15. Violet-lilac (frost)
16. Blue Green (frost)
17. Sea blue (metallic)
18. Peacock blue (matte)
19. Black-Violet (matte)
20. White (matte)

The Berries, Steels, and Greens

L-R:

21. Champagne (frost)
22. Silver (glitter)
23. Steel gray (frost)
24. Forest green (metallic)
25. Gunmetal (metallic)
26. Magenta (frost)
27. Charcoal (matte)
28. Red-brown (matte with shimmer)

The shadows have a smooth, buttery, and soft finish. Pigmentation is light to heavy. However, I find the frost and metallic eyeshadows extremely soft and sensitive that they have a slight tendency to crumble so I always have to be extra gentle when using them. On the brighter side, the mattes in this palette are superbly smooth and easy to blend!

SMASHBOX ON THE ROCKS PHOTO OP EYE SHADOW LUXE PALETTE IN ACTION

Shades 2 and 3 from The Neutrals set

Shades 16, 17, and 18 from The Blues and Purples set, and Shade 8 from The Neutrals set

Shades 21 and 26 from The Berries, Steels, and Greens set, and Shade 19 from The Blues and Purples set

These eyeshadows definitely need an eye primer so they'll stay intact on your lids due to their soft, buttery consistency-I love using Smashbox 24 Hour Photo Finish Shadow Primer with this palette and with any eyeshadow in general.

Usually, eyeshadows tend to lose their quality when they are packaged in palettes. In my opinion, Smashbox is one of the brands that manages to maintain the quality of their eyeshadows, whether individually or in palettes. That said, this whole palette-aside from a ton of colors to play with-is already a great steal!

  1. This palette really rocks! I love the color, the packaging and even the ornament. I don't mind if it doesn't have color names, as long as it is pigmented. This palette is definitely super worth it. :)

  2. I like the cover of this smashbox... ME too, i want to just stay at home and rest with my family. The blue green seems not well mixed. Yet still it looks good in your eyes. I just don't like the part that it has a lot of light eye shadows.

  3. Ang ganda lang! Gusto ko nyan! Kakabasag lang ng palette ko nung isang gabi kaya ito na bibilhin ko next! LOL

Thanks for the awesome review and swatch, especially sa eye color selection kasi minsan kahit may palette ako di ko alam kung anong colors gagamitin, shunga lang :)

  4. I saw this palette when I went to Beauty Bar, and I agree its really gorgeous. Just held off as most of the colors I already had. But will wait for the double exposure palette.
