THE VERDICT:

Living with Cold Sores, overall, is challenging. It doesn't really come often, but when it's there, it hurts like sh*t and I am temporarily off of my favorite stuff in the world like sour, fried, citrusy food.

And it's back in the meantime because I am pretty stressed physically due to working out (and it's a good kind of stress!) plus my sleeping habit is not on point and the weather is frikkin' chilly. FYI, Cold Sores are greatly influenced by stress and a weakened immune system, and aggravated by the weather.

I remembered a dermatologist telling me to use Aquaphor to help me deal with Cold Sores along with antibiotics, until I learned that when you have Cold Sores, you have it for life so I let go of the antibiotics and just kept Aquaphor because to be honest, Aquaphor is enough to remedy the Cold Sores for me. (But don't take my word for it!)

The thing is, Aquaphor is not available locally and the one I have is already three years old so I tossed it away. While rummaging through my lip products, I found Bioderma Atoderm Restorative Lip Balm, swatched it, and concluded that it could be a good alternative since it has the same consistency as Aquaphor and I'm right! Now I don't have to rack my brain trying to look for Aquaphor whenever I'm having my Cold Sores episodes because there's Bioderma, plus this product is good at protecting the lips and it visibly improves its health! I'm in love!

BIODERMA ATODERM RESTORATIVE LIP BALM IN ACTION

This lip balm has a creamy-slightly-runny consistency-it doesn't bleed around the corners, but is soft enough that you can spread it easily all over the lips. It is fragrance- free, taste- free, and feels like a non- greasy version of petroleum jelly. I like the combination of Vaseline and Shea Butter in this: Methinks that the latter improves the conditions of the lips while the former acts a sealant so moisture won't evaporate and leave your lips dry.

I've been using this product for three weeks straight as a night treatment for the lips and so far, I am loving it to bits. I had a Cold Sore two weeks back and this lip balm acted as a protectant so the sore won't erupt accidentally and be infected as I eat, and the product kept the sore's surrounding area really moist, soft, and healthy that it had no choice, but to leave. :) I can also go out in this cold weather without any moisturizing lip product on and my lips won't crack and peel. Heck, I don't even feel like licking my lips just to keep it moist! It has been like this for two weeks now and I am very, very happy with the results and how fast- acting this product is. :)

If you've tried almost all restorative lip balms and unfortunately haven't found something that lives up to its claims yet, you should go and try this lip balm by Bioderma. It's expensive, I know, but it is very effective that I won't mind purchasing it again and again. So far, this is the third Bioderma product that I have tried and just like the first two, I love, love, love it! I also think that this is a good winter lip balm (for my readers who live in a country that experiences winter)! :)

  1. Good thing I don't have a cold core. :/ I think it must really be a burden. The lip balm is kinda pricey for me. :) I'm okay now with chapstick, and nivea lip balm.

  2. I like how French drugstore brands approach their skincare. No-nonsense bordering on medical. I like sleek packaging and all, but I like how they get right down to business even more. Yun lang nga, quite expensive for a lip balm. I thought Kiehl's was super expensive already. This one doesn't have SPF pa.

  3. Licking your lips can worsen the dryness, heard or read it somewhere. Not sure about your thoughts about that one but try it, it may actually do good for you :)
