THE VERDICT:

Are you familiar with Shiseido's Perfect Foundation brush? Yeah, almost all of my Beauty Blogger friends have it and even my mother while I, don't. It's like a must- have for everyone who knows that "great tools precede great makeup" and I feel so left behind! But every time I feel that push to purchase the brush, my grown- up sensibilities start to kick in and then I ask myself this philosophical question: "Do I really need it right now?"

No is always the answer, especially when my desired future flashes right before my hypothalamus gland.

And then I remembered, I have Soffia Opulence Perfect Skin Foundation brush, which I received in the summer of last year. I barely remembered how it looked like because of the tons of brushes I have at home, both used and unused. And then a sudden urge forced me to unearth it from my beauty back- ups cabinet, expecting that it would somehow resemble Shiseido's famed brush and it did not fail me. It is a semi-counterpart of Shiseido Perfect Foundation Brush-a little different, but it pretty much does the same.

SOFFIA OPULENCE PERFECT SKIN FOUNDATION BRUSH IN DETAIL

This premium brush line from the same makers of Charm Makeup Brushes offers this face brush that you can use on liquid, powder, cream, and even mousse foundation and BB creams, and promises even, flawless, pro coverage.

In short, it's your good ol' flat top Kabuki Brush with a much shorter handle for close- up work. I like short handles when it comes to foundation brushes because it gives me God- like control over things. :p

SOFFIA OPULENCE PERFECT SKIN FOUNDATION BRUSH IN ACTION

Shiseido's Perfect Foundation Brush looks pretty much the same as this version by Soffia: Short, travel- friendly, has a slanted body to reach the far corners of the face, and features stippling bristles to create a soft finish. Shiseido edges out this brush by two points only: It's much more compact and the brush has rounded tips to give you an airbrushed finish.

Back to Soffia. The bristles of the brush have a pretty short length, thus the entire brush body has a firm, steady hold. What this means to you is no more streaky finish and your foundation goes right where you want it to. The brush is made from high grade synthetic hair and it's really soft, non- scratchy, and yields no hair fall. I like using this product on cream foundation-to me, it's the perfect cream foundation brush. It also works perfectly with liquid foundation and powder foundation.

I tried my mum's Shiseido Perfect Foundation Brush that's why I'm making all this comparison. That Shiseido brush is great and I will definitely buy it if I finally have extra money to spare, but if you're more on the frugal side, this is good enough to give you an idea of what that Shiseido brush can do!

  1. I like Charm brushes, so I wonder how this premium one is different from the regular Charm brushes. Is this softer? Is this still synthetic?

Until I've got my brush-cleansing down pat, I don't want to spend on something so expensive that might accidentally ruin. My eventual level-up might be Zoeva or this.

  2. What is the diameter of the bristles? Isn't that brush synthetic like the one said on the site po?

  3. Hi I just want to ask, do you know where else can I buy that brush? I'm a new beauty blogger and I am constantly reading your posts. I'd really appreciate if you could give me some tips.

This is the link to my blog: http://tokyogravity.blogspot.com/

  4. Awww bagay na bagay nga ang name niya na opulence! i like the chubby handle. For now ok nako sa charm retractable brush ko. I forgot the name. Pero if given this for free hehe why not? Charm brushes are reall durable and long lasting. i have had mine for almost 2 years wala pang shedding! If this came in a retractable case, i might consider it, pero it is too high maintenance i think for the price.

  5. I've never heard of the brush brand until now. And it looks pretty much the same with the Shiseido one. But I love Charm brushes as well. They're soft and very controllable. :) But I'll check this one out as well

  6. i've been given a chance to attend a shiseido makeup workshop c/o ms rowena and ms sophie.. and yes i dream of getting that brush too Shiseido Perfect Brush but it was too pricey for a single brush so i tried looking for a dupe and saw Tony Moly Professional Circle Foundation Brush and The Face Shop Circle Face Brush were the perfect dupe for it and half ht price/or lower

my first brush set is from Charm Brushes and i got Charm Travel Pro Makeup Brush Set (Sonia Limited Edition) which i use for my makeup services and i know that Soffia Opulence Perfect Skin Foundation Brush is from the makers of Charm Brushes too (its on my last year wishlist too -- after seeing this to beauty bloggers post i immediately included it on my beauty wishlist because like the Shiseido Perfect Brush this one is a multitasking brush which you can use on liquid/powder, cream/mousse with very nice coverage and also it is half the price of the Shiseido Perfect Brush.

I still have this on my wishlist and i know i could get one before summer comes =)

  7. Finally, a review of this.

There was a lot of press releases for this brush line before but I never saw a follow-up review for this particular brush. I have the shiseido perfect foundation brush and a few landmark noconi brush knock-offs. I want to try this because it's sold by a Filipina entrepreneur but I'm held off by the lack of reviews. I'm all about dense short bristled brushes for my base and this seems like a good addition. Since I don't want to re-use my foundation brushes and I don't want to wash them too often din.

  8. Rae: Thanks for sharing! Good thing I decided to review this one. :D

Rhain: Wee! Hope you can have your very own soon. It's a lovely multitasking brush!

Miz Eloise: Soffia has this "dresser brush" appeal to me, if you know what I mean. It's luxurious, but not bordering MAC and Nars prices.

Abegaill: It's still fairly new after all. Get the soft focus brush-I love it! :)

Vin: Hi dear and welcome to my blog! Glad you're enjoying my reviews. Kindly check the post again, specifically the top portion-you will find there the websites and stores that carry Soffia. :)

Foodworldme: Soffia's a mix of synthetic and natural bristles. Sophie, the owner, told me that Soffia uses high grade bristles compared to Charm, hence the price and positioning. ;)

Anonymous: Hey there! Yes, it's synthetic-just checked with Sophie of Soffia. Soffia Soft Focus Brush is natural so I thought everything's natural as well. Thanks for pointing that out. ;) Diameter is about half an inch, I believe. :)
