ASUS Zenfone Selfie Review, Specs, Price

My most favorite Zenfone would be this: ASUS Zenfone Selfie for a lot of reasons: it's bigger, faster, smarter, and amongst all the Zenfone phones, it's the one that takes the best photos; Us Beauty Bloggers will not compromise and would only prefer cameras that take our EOTDs and FOTDs seriously and Zenfone is a great candidate. I'm reviewing this mobile phone for everyone today!

THE LOWDOWN

ASUS Zenfone Selfie was launched at the third quarter of 2015 together with Zenfone 2 Laser and Zenfone Deluxe. Main features are Corning Gorilla Glass and an impressive 13MP front and back camera, a first for ASUS' mobile phones (it's not Zenfone Selfie for nothing!). On top of the great camera resolution, it also features Zenfone Laser Beam that enables it to focus on subject quickly under low light conditions and Laser Focus that enables it to focus on a subject in mere 0.2 seconds. Zenfone Selfie comes in the colors Pink, White, and Blue (mine is the latter, but it's more Mint Green to me).

Here are the entire specs:

P.S. I noticed that my phone did not come with a headset and I don't remember if it doesn't really have one or mine did not come with one and I should have checked with the distributor.

THE BODY

This one's slightly bigger than Zenfone 2 at 5.5 in. Interface is the same as the other Zenfones I have, but I noticed that this one is more responsive.

The 5.5 inch size and display means better photo perspective, game time, photo editing time, and Youtube time, but could be bulky and harder to grip.

I'm really having a great time playing the Emily series in this phone. :) Screen is so huge and audio is crisp and clear (doesn't sound like cheap, tin can quality audio).

Also, I'm having a great time reading my favorite articles online too; it's like a slimmer, thinner Kindle. :)

CAMERA

The main focus of this review is the camera features of this phone. In my opinion, this truly has the best front camera amongst all of Zenfone's versions; I'm an avid iPhone user and I'd say this, that this has a better front cam than the former.

Here are sample photos (photos were unedited, fyi):

FRONT CAM

The front cam automatically uses the Beautification mode; you can turn it off if you like. This photo is taken with Beautification mode; this camera mode just makes the skin look clearer and brighter; if you want to widen your eyes, add makeup to your complexion (YAS YOU CAN DO THAT IN THIS PHONE), or slim down your cheeks, you can do that in Gallery under the Enhance feature.

BACK CAMERA

Did I mention this phone takes amazing landscape shots too? Colors are vibrant and true!

ZENFONE LASER BEAM

I tested it to take a photo of this ice cream cake under low light conditions; indeed, focus time is fast with this mode, but if you want to minimize blur, tick the Low Light Mode.

LASER FOCUS

A beautiful shot of Mt. Pico De Loro's mountain range using this phone; this phone automatically (and quickly at that) focused on the Bamboo shoot and captured this scenery; I was supposed to take a photo of the mountain range, then this; it's a beautiful shot anyway so I kept it and that goes to show that the Laser Focus promise is true.

As for the caveats, as usual, it's the mother load of apps that require frequent updating; there are also 16 new ZenUI apps in this phone and I've noticed that it's updating ever so frequently months after I got it. On the bright side, most of the apps update automatically when needed and once connected to the Internet, but the problems here are the screen is always flooded with notifications and some apps need to be updated manually.

Despite that, this still has got to be my most favorite Zenfone to date because it's got a really nice camera, perfect for capturing moments and EOTDs and FOTDs, and for my Beauty Blogger life; it's for the social media and selfie- savvy, and it's the most affordable smartphone with the nicest camera that I have encountered so far.

ASUS Zenfone Selfie retails at P11,995.00. Visit ASUS PHILIPPINES on Facebook for more information about this product.

  2. This seems to be a favorite among beauty bloggers, eh? I'm getting one for myself soon, in red! Asus makes great phones for an affordable price tag. I'm a Sony loyalist myself, but I'm now an Asus convert. You just can't beat the price for those specs.

  4. I'm currently looking for a selfie phone and haven't decide yet what to buy. This might go on my list. I like that it's 13MP front and back. Wow! That's really nice. I like the mint green color too. It would've been nice if the front color is white. 😊😆

  5. great mobile phone review ms m! this phone if for those who love taking pictures! (ehem) just two days ago was my mom's birthday me and my two younger sibs decide to give her an upgrade to her current phone, and since the budget is below 5K (magagalit sa amin ang nanay kapag gumastos pa kami ng mas malaki duon) we gave her starmobile phoe (will be back for the model of the said phone) and it only cost 3,900php yes and it also features 13MP camera (back) not yet sure for the front (since si bunso ang pumili)

few people uses Zenphone most of my friends/officemate use iPhone and Samsung, i have tried Sony (old style, not functioning anymore) Nokia (already not functioning), MyPhone (given by my cousin) and Samsung (current) but havent tried nor seen an Asus one.. so I was amazed with its features! it really is a great phone (quality wise plus value for the money) I will surely grab one for myself in the future

The phone reminds me of a perfume (pictured on my mind but i cannot recall the name) haha

    1. Asus is the first non-Apple phone I owned and I love it to bits! Second to Apple, Asus would be my go-to phone.

  6. I would also get the same color if ever I'd buy one. Thanks for this review, I am also an avid iphone user but I am currently hoping on having an extra phone for my soon to be ever busy life plus more selfiesss! Hihi Kidding aside, this phone really aounds promising and the pictures you've posted looks really great. Plus I love the selfie editing features they've included, it's becoming a "thing" these days, I think Oppo has one too, but I haven't read any review about it.

I was really fascinated that even though you posts mostly about make up you still have time and interest to post other things like this one! This is one of the reason why I never get tired and bored visiting your blog, because every post is different. Keep up the great work Ms. Martha! :)

  11. I'm impressed with the Lazer Focus and yes, they will not name it Zenfone Selfie phone for nothing. No wonder it has been raved by a lot of bloggers. And oh, i love the Beautification Mode, no need to download photo editing apps or edit photos first before posting them on IG, haha!
I noticed that whenever my brothers and sister would give me (as pasalubong) a new phone or tablet, every accessory is included inside the box even if the gadget is not high end. Earphones, USB cable, and ofcourse, charger. But when i buy phones from our country, some lack earphones or USB cable. Usually, the only accessory that comes with the phone is the battery pack and charger.

  13. Waaahhhh!! Never knew they have this in colors pink and mint too! My younger sisters both had this phone last quarter of 2016, mom got them from lazada (so sad they offered only the white ones that time). It would have been nice if they got it in pink or mint instead.

Performance wise, I like that it's very responsive, esp.for gaming! The wide screen is also a huge catch!
The only thing I didn't like - it's back! The bulk on it's back is a minus points. Don't know but for me it makes the device easily slip into my hands. But other than that, I'd say this phone is definitely a treat!
