What's The Big Deal With Cushion Compacts?

A couple of years back, it has been predicted that Cushion Compacts will take over the beauty scene; it's pretty much starting now as some major brands are already offering their very own versions for Spring/Summer.

But what is the big deal with Cushion Compacts? Why is it so hot now and why will it be the next big thing in beauty?

For starters, Cushion Compact was first introduced in Korea; Korean beauty brand, Laneige, has the record of the best- selling Cushion Compact just because they're arguably the first brand to offer this type of makeup; slowly but surely, other Korean brands started to pick up, leading to the unstoppable rise of the Cushion Compact in Asia and just this year, American beauty brands such as Bobbi Brown and Estēe Lauder, and French beauty brand, Lancome, have jumped in the trend.

There are actually a lot of reasons to love Cushion Compact. I, for one, am glad that brands are starting to embrace this packaging; I'm all about fuss- free, handy products and Cushion Compact fits the bill. As for the reasons, let me detail them to you below:

1. Tony Moly BCDation; 2. Bobbi Brown Skin Foundation Cushion Compact; 3. The Face Shop Cushion Compact; 4. Estēe Lauder Double Wear To Go

Convenience, for one. I believe it's pretty obvious that Cushion Compacts are the handiest thing ever; it's compact, seals tightly, and the cushion prevents foundation from spilling into your makeup kit; it also gets rid of makeup woes such as shattered foundation bottles and missing tube caps.

Quality. Cushion Compact challenges our belief that foundation can never be/feel light and BB/CC Cream can never have coverage; Cushion Compact BB/CC finally yields considerable coverage and with much better SPF (this product can offer up to SPF 50 while regular BBs and CCs offer a maximum of SPF 30 only), and Cushion Compact foundation delivers an airy feel and finish, yet coverage stays intact; this isn't magic - it's actually science; the cushion, once activated, automatically separates the product evenly as it rises to the surface, thus delivering a flawlessly even, lightweight finish. Also, Cushion Compact bases tend to be much more moisturizing than its traditional counterparts.

Lastly, Hygiene. Now you don't have to dip your fingers in foundation tubs and pump your bases onto surfaces just to use them; just press your sponge or brush on the cushion to take some product.

To date, there are two Cushion Compact versions: Asian and Western. What's the diff? Asian Cushion Compacts are mostly BB and CC Creams and Western Cushion Compacts started out with foundation; Cushion Compacts are starting to evolve as well as evident in Estēe Lauder's cushion- less cushion compact, Tony Moly's all- cream cushion compact, and Bobbi Brown's non- saturated cushion compact.

And we've only just begun; Korea is now starting to produce cushion cheek and brow compacts; the rest of the days are going to be exciting and while we anticipate that, let's play around with these plushy, squishy things.

  2. I think the only downside is they have less product in it which is a bit of a bummer because you're paying for more or less half of the amount typical foundations would have and it still has limited shade range. So far, Bobbi Brown and Laneige are some of the few brands who cater for women with morena skintones. I hope other brands release a more extensive shade range.

Also, please do a review of The Face Shop cushion BB cream! Will wait patiently! :) thanks for this post.

  9. CC Cushion is expensive even the refill! How about if I bought one and I already emptied it, then can I use a CC cream on tubes to refill the cushion? I dunno if its advisable :(

    1. I don't think it's advisable because the consistency of the base is made exactly for the cushion.

  20. S.Korea is making the trend in beauty nowadays. I was a fan of K-pop so I was always updated to the k-beauty scene. I love cushion compacts, it gives a perfect base and it makes your skin glow. I appreciate the western brands for trying it out 'cause Korean makeups shades' are too light for me and their darkest shades are too orange / yellow. I think that western brands have more shades to offer that's why I am looking forward to it.

Anyway, I am still in love with my The Face Shop's CC Cushion!
