 THE VERDICT:

I channeled my Good Samaritan and purchased a couple of Sleek MakeUP Matte Me Birthday Suit lippies to sell to friends who have been dying to get their hands on it (did not put any mark up on this one; it's pure public service) the moment I got news that it was restocked; as I was waiting for the friendly SA to get my stocks, Sleek MakeUP's Base Duo Kit called out to me and I heard it whispered "Buy meeeee...." (LOL). And so I did and the end of story is, I'm very happy with it! As you may know, I love cream foundation and this is one awesome drugstore version, plus I just think that the powder + cream foundation in one compact concept is sheer genius!

SLEEK MAKEUP BASE DUO KIT IN FUDGE 338 IN DETAIL

This super handy face kit features a cream foundation and a semi- translucent face powder; it has SPF 15 to protect, and Jojoba Oil, and Vitamin E for added moisture; it promises to even out the skin tone, conceal wrinkles and imperfections, and smooth out skin all while providing a lightweight, non- cakey finish; locally, it comes in 4 or 5 shades.

Ingredients

At the bottom of the compact, you'll find the cream foundation; on top is the the powder; if you've noticed, each side has a mirror so no need to flip the pan back and forth just to see your face; product comes in semi- matte compact that has just the right size, width, and weight, thus you can bring it with you everyday.

Fudge looks a lil' dark in the pan, but it turns out to be just fine for my skin tone; the SPF content yields a teeny hint of white cast, but it's forgivable. Coverage is light to medium, it has a nice perfume fragrance similar to that of high- end makeups, and it look very natural and is easy to blend that you can use a finger to apply it.

The powder that comes with it is a medium fair beige that only leaves a hint of tint on the skin; you can build it up for more coverage, but even so, I don't think it would be enough to conceal marks and even out skin tone on its own so it's really best used with foundation. Texture is silky and smooth, and I also like using it to set concealer due as it yields a slight highlighting effect.

At first, it baffled me as to why the powder and cream foundation don't complement each other completely in terms of shade, but later on, I realized why; the nature of cream foundation is due to its very high concentration of pigments and other factors such as skin condition, activity, and climate, coverage tends to deepen when it has fully settled on the skin and the powder will counteract that, plus it makes it friendlier to acidic skin types too.

SLEEK MAKEUP BASE DUO KIT IN FUDGE IN 338 IN ACTION

Left: Bare face; Right: 1 1/2 layers of the cream foundation

This is, by far, the lightest cream foundation I have tried in terms of feel; it's lightweight, but coverage is great! It can conceal light to moderate marks on its own, plus it never cakes and settles.

Cream foundation set with powder

The powder yields just the right amount of coverage; face looked a bit lighter than my neck due to the SPF and the tint from the powder, but it's not so bad and a contouring powder is enough to fix it. Staying power is pretty good as it lasts the whole day with very minimal fading and keeps my skin feeling moisturized, but I wouldn't wear it to the beach or a workout just because it's not intended for that.

Base Duo is a brilliant, travel- friendly product and I've been bringing it with me to my trips, plus I love that the shades are so friendly to morena skin tones! I'm making it a makeup kit staple now!

  5. Great review on the Sleek Makeup base in Fudge. Everytime I read your blog posts,I learn something new ( your review saying that the product is good for acidic skin types too, did some research about it afterwards, still got a lot to learn about makeup so forgive me) now I understand better what acidic skin means. Thank you

  6. OMG.
    That was my first reaction.

I saw the price at first and I kind of felt a bit of ouch in it but I've noticed that it is a duo, so it is not that bad. I've tried cream foundations before but it doesn't work for me, maybe because of my oily skin or maybe because the formula just doesn't work out for me. It emphasizes my creases / fine lines that I want to hide so I quickly said no to it. But since I trust your opinion, I might give this one a go, I saw some of this brand's makeup from my cousin and I love it. Also, the packaging is SLEEK! (have you noticed the pun?) But seriously, I love the packaging plus it has a big mirror.

    Can't wait to try this!!!

    1. I have combination oily-normal skin and it works for me; for really oily skin, not that sure; you'd have to wear primer underneath for sure! :)

  15. Nice technology on this makeup. I didn't even thought of having a separate container for both foundation and powder then placed in one compact! Some cosmetics did this on foam foundations (mostly on korean brands) for the sponge but look at this duo compact, it is so amazing. Must buy this soon!
