THE VERDICT:

As someone who experiences breakouts at least twice a year (a big one and a moderate one), I always make it a point to look for and try whatever skin care line that promises to treat breakouts. So far, Mario Badescu is still at the top spot when it comes to graver acne concerns and for mild to moderate acne, Bioderma's Sebium range is a good choice.

BIODERMA SEBIUM SKIN CARE RANGE IN DETAIL

Sebium is Bioderma's offering for oily, blemished skin; it contains patented FLUIDACTIV, an ingredient present in the range that helps improve the quality of sebum, purifies skin, and addresses oily skin concerns.

Hydrabio Serum is a hydrating serum that contains AQUAGENIUM, a technology that retrains skin to moisturize itself by encouraging the skin to produce aquaporins, skin's natural water reserves while helping retain moisture at the same time.

Sensibio Eye is formulated for sensitive and intolerant skin; it features D.A.F. (Dermatological Advanced Formulation) that inhibits the production of pro- inflammatory molecules, making the skin less reactive. This eye cream contains Caffeine to de-puff eye bags and Hyaluronic Acid to moisturize and hydrate.

I used the following products in my Bioderma range for 1 1/2 months:

Sebium Purifying Cleansing Foaming Gel ingredients

Sebium Pore Refiner ingredients

Sebium Purifying Smoothing Care ingredients

Hydrabio Serum ingredients

 This is Sensibio Eye cream.

 Ingredients

Top: Sebium Pore Refiner
Center: Sebium Purifying Smoothing Care
Bottom: Sebium Purifying Cleansing Foaming Gel

Sebium Pore Refiner is a serum that helps clear up the pores and shrink them; it has a minty-floral fragrance (but it doesn't yield a cooling sensation) and gets absorbed quickly plus leaves a hint of moisture.

Sebium Purifying Smoothing Care is like a moisturizer; it's hydrating and is a bit thicker than Pore Refiner, but can be used in the morning and evening; use a little in the morning and apply generously in the evening. It also has a minty-floral fragrance like Pore Refiner and I noticed that a few seconds after applying it on my skin, some parts of my face, specifically those with zits or acne, feel a stinging sensation, but I find it not that bothersome; it goes away after a few seconds; it must be the product at work.

Sebium Purifying Cleansing Foaming Gel has a fresh, gel texture and produces moderate foam; doesn't leave the face dry!

Hydrabio Serum (just forgot to include it in the product swatch photo) is like a bouncy, silicone- like clear serum that 'bursts' and becomes a bit watery when you work it into your skin; it feels light and hydrating. and doesn't feel like it's covering the skin despite the Dimethicone content.

Sensibio is a light gel-cream that is unscented and feels a lil' cool; you can leave it for an hour inside the fridge for it to have a better de- puffing effect.

BIODERMA SEBIUM/HYDRABIO/SENSIBIO IN ACTION

I've been experiencing hormonal breakout and thankfully, it's about to subside now; I still get zits here and there though. Hormonal breakout is a little hard to treat in my opinion because it's simply not bacteria that's causing the trouble; it's your actual body, thus anti- acne products may not be able to deliver too much because OTC anti- acne products are more targeted to acne- causing bacteria. Given this, how did Bioderma Sebium help? I felt and noticed that it prevented my skin from breaking out any further due to bacteria, pollution, and dirt by keeping my skin clean and healthy.

Hydrabio, on the other hand, acted as an equalizer for my skin: it kept my skin hydrated, which in turn has maintained the good condition of my skin; I also felt that it supported the Sebium range. I'm also a serum user and I can't do without one so I stuck with this while enduring hormonal acne because its formula is gentle and hydration is always a safe and good idea for troubled skin.

Sensibio Eye is very gentle that I barely noticed how it improved my under eye area LOL. But at least it's hydrating and kept my under eyes moisturized; I guess those with really sensitive and intolerant skin can review this better.

Bioderma Sebium line is great and I recommend it if you get mild to moderate blemishes, or if you have oily skin because this line addresses the problems of this skin type such as enlarged pores, oil, rough texture, and blemishes. If you want gentle hydration, go for Hydrabio. Among all the products, I like Purifying Smoothing Care moisturizer because I noticed Bioderma will soon develop a Sebium range that can combat graver blemishes.

  2. I love how they have an entire line to cater for the needs of people with oily tendencies! That's the problem with other skincare brands, they claim to be good for all skin types but because of the mismatch, it could sometimes lead to worse situations. Would love to try the Hydrabio and Sensibio eye! I am also a firm believer that the overproduction of sebum on our face arises from the fact that we have very dry skin underneath, so our glands go haywire to make up for that dryness, but it doesn't work quite well and it ends up causing more problems for us. This is why I like investing in moisturizing products more than mattifying ones, because we need to address the problems from within! :)

  3. I have enlarge pores in my nose and cheeks. Luckily I was able to get the Bioderma Pore Refiner,I like the minty scent and naaabsorb sya agad ng skin. I also have the Sensibio Eye and Sebium Hydra pero di ko pa natatry gamitin.
I'm not sure if this will help Ms.Martha, regarding the Hormonal imbalance.
I worked in HK 2007,dami Kong pimples 1 week after Kong dumating ng HK. Sabi ng boss ko masyado ng main it yung loob ng body ko kaya I had breakouts.
Sabi nila kailangan laging balance ang Ying and Yang sa body. Nagluto sila ng soup na may wintermelon, wala pang 2 days natuyo yung pimples and nawala.
If you like to try Ms.Martha include ko yung recipe.
1/4 pork sirloin ( purong laman)
    1/4 winter melon( kundol)
    4 PCs dried brown dates
    4 PCs bitter almond
    5 cups of water
    1/8 tsp Salt
    Procedure:
Pagsamasamahin lang lahat ng ingredients except sa salt then cook in low heat. Add salt 5 minutes before I off yung stove.

    Thank you Ms.Martha!
    Have a great week!
