 THE VERDICT:

Maybelline Philippines ends the year with a bang by launching arguably their most anticipated collection of the year made in collaboration with superstar model, Gigi Hadid.

Thinking of getting pieces from this collection as holiday gift? Then check out the swatches, products, and my thoughts to know which one/s are right for you!

Gigi Hadid's collection is divided into two categories: EAST COAST and WEST COAST. East Coast is inspired by Gigi's home away from home, New York city while West Coast is inspired by her hometown, California; the former has cooler tones while the latter has warmer tones. Between the two, East Coast collection is the biggest, as in way bigger than West Coast, and I'm wondering why it's like that; only Gigi knows. :D

First, I love the elements of the packaging: holographic, gold, peachy nude. It's elegant, modern, and cool. Some were saying that it looks completely like KKW's packaging, but I don't really see the direct resemblance though.

EAST COAST

East Coast collection features the following products: BB Cushion, Tinted Primer, Eyeshadow Quad, Lipstick, Lip Liner, Eyeliner, Brow Pencil, Dual Fiber Mascara.

The primer and cushion (P799.00) come in two shades, respectively.

Can I just say that I love Maybelline's BB Cushion puff?! Look at the color of it!

BB Cushion ingredients

Tinted Primer ingredients

BB Cushion in Natural and Fair; Tinted Primer in Light Medium

The cushion has a light cream consistency and yields light to medium coverage. It is unscented.

The Tinted Primer feels more like a tinted moisturizer; it is unscented. The shade Light Medium is actually tan already.

East Coast Eyeshadow palettes. Left is Warm and right is Cool.

Eyeshadow palette ingredients

Warm palette swatches

Cool palette swatches

East Coast palettes have 5 shades with a matte finish. The powders have light to medium pigmentation, albeit a bit chalky. Personally, I find the Cool palette more pigmented.

Lipstick and Lip liners in Taura, Erin, and McCall

Top to Bottom: Taura (peachy nude), Erin (Dirty Rose + Taupe), McCall (pale peach nude)

The lipsticks (P349.00) remind me of color sensational matte lipsticks; they have a soft matte consistency and semi- matte finish. The lip liners (P249.00) are pigmented and can even be used on their own and they yield a soft matte finish, just like the lipsticks. The lip liners have really good staying power. Lipstick and Lip Liner are sold individually.

Dual Fiber Mascara, Eyeliner, and Brow Pencil

L-R: Eyeliner in Black, Brow Pencils in Brown and Dark Brown

The eyeliner pen comes with a slim brush applicator; fits a lot of eye shapes and I like that it can go even into the inner corner of the eye for even coverage. Pigmentation is medium to heavy and this is pretty long- wearing.

Brow Pencil has a semi- hard texture, but softens as you rub it on the back of your hand. Pigmentation is medium to heavy and color deposits gradually onto the brows.

WEST COAST

West Coast is a pretty small collection and is comprised of only 3 lipsticks, 3 lip liners, and 2 eyeshadow palettes.

The eyeshadow palettes have 6 shades per palette. This Tinted Primer which is included in the West Coast collection comes in the shade called Medium Deep.

Eyeshadow palette in Cool

Eyeshadow palette in Warm

West Coast eyeshadow palettes come in matte and shimmer finishes. Pigmentation is medium to heavy and yield lesser fallout compared to the East Coast counterparts.

Lipstick + Lip Liner (L-R): Lani, Khair, Austyn

For the lipsticks, West Coast collection has deeper, bolder colors, but they're only red and orange.

Top to Bottom: Austyn, Khair, Lani

JET SETTER PALETTE

As if having those 24 items are not enough; last but not the least is this product of the collection that is inspired by Gigi's jet- setting lifestyle: Jet- Setter Palette (P1,899.00).

The palette contains 12 products plus two brushes. These are Gigi's beauty essentials when she's traveling.

The thing I'm excited the most about this palette is the inclusion of Maybelline Colossal Volume Express, one of my most favorite mascaras of all time.

L-R: Concealers in Fair and Natural; lip balms

The concealers have a light cream texture and light to medium coverage; on the swatch, you wouldn't think that the concealers are any good, but they surprisingly are when finally used on the under eyes.

The palette also contains 4 basic eyeshadow colors for peeper emergency.

L-R: Blush, Contour, Highlight

The blush has a matte finish and comes in an almost neon- like orange shade. It looks pretty scary in the palette, but it appears natural on the cheeks provided that it is used sparingly and buffed onto the skin properly.

The highlighter in this palette is THE BOMB. Love the creamy texture that makes it super pigmented and gives it superb adherence. It also gives a lovely, perceivable, metallic champagne pink strobe.

Let's try out the products!

Bare Brow

Using Brow Pencil in Dark Brown

The controlled color payoff feature of the brow pencil lets me create a nice gradient and shadowy, natural- looking brows. However, it feels a bit waxy so my useful tip is after applying the first layer, brush it out with the spoolie that comes with it to get rid of the waxiness. Continue doing so until you achieve your desired coverage.

Dual Fiber Mascara

Dual Fiber Mascara reminds of a similar product by K-Palette; does the job in elongating and adding a bit of volume to the lashes and is water- resistant. Wouldn't use this if I'm particularly busy though because of all the steps involved.

Bare skin

One layer of Tinted Primer in Medium Deep

This particular shade is way too dark. My shade would be light medium. As I said, it feels more of a tinted moisturizer, but the primer property here is it helps smooth the skin.
One layer of BB Cushion in Natural

BB Cushion has pretty good coverage; I used it on top of Tinted Primer in Medium Deep because it is too light for me on its own; Natural is the darkest shade in BB Cushion and I wish there are shades for morena skin tone like mine.

The cushion yields a semi- matte finish and staying power is pretty good at 4 hours before T-Zone gets oily Just a note, it oxidizes for a wee bit.

As for the Tinted Primer, it does help improve the finish of makeup, although I don't really think it helps control oil. I think the BB Cushion has good oil control on its own.

Night look: Lipstick in Erin, Eyeshadows in East Coast Cool and West Coast Warm, Jetsetter blush, contour, highlight, Brow Pencil in Dark Brown, Eyeliner in Black, BB Cushion in Natural, Tinted Primer in Medium Deep, Lipstick and Lip Liner in Erin

In this photo, I used a combination of the products from East and West Coast, and Jetsetter Palette.

In general, this collection is pretty and most of the products are good. I can't say that East Coast is better than West Coast and vice versa because each collection has a strong product.

For eyeshadows, I would suggest the West Coast palettes because there are more products in the palette, more textures, more finishes, and better quality overall.

BB Cushion is great it; I like it, but I wish I had a shade. If you find a shade, lucky you.

The lipsticks have great colors and the lip liners are very good.

Personally, I would highly recommend the Jetsetter palette because I love the selection of the products, the highlighter is amazing, and there's the Colossal Mascara. I will also recommend the lipsticks, lip liners, and BB Cushion.

Which of these products have you tried already or would you like to try?

  6. I've heard a lot of mixed reviews about these products. Personally, I haven't tried any of these for myself. I do however love the packaging of this collaboration. I'm a huge fan of minimalistic and simle packagings. Love the holographic boxes! I love the fact that they used millennial pink for this. Sort of reminds me of a pinkier version of Kim k's nude packaging for her cosmetic products. I wanna try the lip products from this line! Plus the highlighting product and the palettes too! Looks very promising. Thanks for sharing this, Ms. Martha!

  8. I've watched a US-based Youtuber use the tinted primer in places where you just need to contour. Gigi also did the same on her tutorial.
