Nivea Post Shave Balm: Is it really a good primer?

Does this online- famous shave balm live up to the 'best primer' claim?

Here's a review on Nivea Post Shave Balm.

PRICE: Around P390.00+
FROM: I bought the sensitive cooling one, the other one was sent by Nivea PH
OTHER LOCATIONS: Available in leading department stores, drugstores, and supermarkets

 THE VERDICT:

Nivea good ol' post- shave balm had a newfound fame when Nikkietutorials raved about it as one of the best primers there is. Since then, every one who's into beauty just wants to have a piece of this thing.

Nivea PH is quick to pick up on the demand and has finally brought in Nivea Post Shave Balm. I have here two: Regular and Cooling. The latter, I got months before I was sent the regular one, the one that a lot of beauty gurus have raved about. I put it on a spin yesterday and I say, this is good enough for everyday wear!

Ingredients

Nikkie particularly raved about Sensitive Post Shave Balm. I got the cooling variant because the regular one wasn't on the shelves yet when I hunted down this thing.

Products come in a glass bottle. It's 100ml and there's a lot of product inside, I don't think you'll be able to use it up quickly, not even in 6 months.

Top is cooling and bottom is regular. Texture is a light gel cream; no difference in texture though except the scent: cooling has a minty, aquatic perfume scent and regular has an aquatic perfume scent. Product feels like an emulsion and it gets absorbed quickly while providing light moisture, although I would still advise that you use moisturizer prior, especially if you have dry skin.

The biggest question: Does it really work as a primer? Check it out.

Freshly- applied makeup. I used Colourette Flexifoundation and sprayed a bit of Nichido Matte Finish makeup setting spray on my face.

After 6 hours

Hmmm. Not bad! Take note, I did not retouch nor blot my face during the trial period and here's my face after 6 hours: t- zone oiled up, but my makeup is still intact overall and looks nice. Also, take note that I used some help from Nichido setting spray here plus the weather last night was generally cool, ergo makeup- friendly.

This is a promising primer: won't call it the best, but it's good because my makeup looked nice for 6 hours with very minimal fading on the oily parts only. As for professional makeup wear, I don't think it's built for that as even if my face looked decent after 6 hours, I won't say it's in the condition that's still suitable for a shoot or an event. I can see this as a good makeup primer for casual makeup wear and when you're going to just stroll around the mall; I don't know how this will fare under our real tropical weather-aka scorching hot-when summer comes.

If you want an affordable primer with moisturizing properties and great for daily makeup wear, this will suit you!

  1. I've use this during summer months lst year I could say that nothing beats porefessional of Benefit bit this is better than quick fx...so it is a in-between product. This is not an alternative to porefessional bit I use it when I havr to scrimp on my fave primer.

  9. So the hype is real lol! When I heard that this is used for a primer I was really confused. A shaving balm and a primer wow, yes I agree it is affordable but I was still hesitant I would rather use the normal primer over this.
