5 Simple Ways to Love Yourself A Little More Everyday


While browsing Facebook, I saw the #LookGoodFeelGreat campaign video by Watsons featuring people who talked about what they loved about their life; they mentioned everything they loved about their careers and possessions, but had a hard time answering the very simple question "What do you love about yourself?"

I found myself asking the same question too and then came the painful realization that even if people say a lot of good things about me, most of the time, I'm really having a hard time realizing what I love about myself.


To know what you love about yourself is to love yourself. Loving yourself a bit more means accepting yourself a bit more, understanding yourself a bit more, and nurturing yourself a bit more. Eventually, we'll all break through and reach a place where we can say, without a doubt, what we really love about ourselves.

It's a long journey, but I hope we all get there. As I said, I still have those days when I can't seem to find one thing I love about myself, but there are good days too and here are 5 simple ways that help me love myself a bit more everyday:

1. LEARN TO SAY NO

- No can mean negative for others, but means positive for you. Saying no to things you don't like, don't want, dislike to do, and are not comfortable with means freeing yourself from anxiety and stress.

2. TREAT YOURSELF

-  Whether you've had an amazing or sour day, you can always treat yourself, if that means making you feel better. Go ahead buy that lipstick you've been eyeing for a month now. Get a cone of ice cream. Watch a movie. Get a massage. For me, treating yourself is simply just taking a break and realizing that there's always another chance to make things right.

3. ENRICH YOURSELF EVERYDAY

- Read a new book. Meet a new person. Sign up for a workshop. Investing in yourself is a step towards enriching your skills and unlocking talents that are unrealized, which will eventually lead you to what you truly want in life.

4. FIND A WAY TO LAUGH EVERYDAY

- There are many health benefits to laughing so find a way to laugh everyday. Laughing releases happy hormones that relieves stress and anxiety, which helps ward off diseases. Those funny cat videos you've been watching aren't time wasters after all!

5. BE AWARE

- To be aware is to do some serious self- checking on yourself. Being aware of not only what's negative, but also what's positive about you helps you appreciate yourself more and helps you form better habits.

  1. I am sooo happy Ms. Martha that with the 5 points you raised, I can say I love myself! I say no whenever I feel uncomfortable, I treat myself with proper skincare everyday. I enrich myself by reading blogs like yours, I always laugh and smile because of my babies and I am too aware that I still have a lot to improve myself to be a better person, physically, mentally and emotionally.

  3. Thank you for the good read Ms. Martha. I've been through a lot of hardships before (weak family relationship, been a loner,failed 9-year-relationship,into new relationship then failed again,got pregnant then decided to be a single parent) I lifted it all to God first and then chose to forgive the people who hurt me in the past. With that, I had positive vibes to move forward with a light heart. I chose to love myself and promise to never let anyone hurt me because I think I don't deserve that. As a single mother of twin girls for more than 4 years now,I came to love myself more. I am blessed by God with these two cuties and this is the best gift I ever had in my entire 35 years of life. Motherhood is the chapter in my life and I cherish every moment of being a mother.   5. This is soooo inspiring. Sometimes we are so busy loving a person that we forgot to give the love for ourselves. This is the advice I always give to my friends.     Nkakalimutan din natin mg no kasi natatakot tayong Tanggahin ung taong pinapahalagahan natin kahit ayaw tlga ntin ung gagawin o ung isang bagay..
