Powder matte is the new classic matte; it's the trendy, favorite matte lipstick finish lately because everyone's loving the soft, romantic look and feel; or maybe to some, it reminds them of filters and Instagram, everyone's favorite platform LOL.
The thing is, the powder matte lipstick finish has been around for years and it's only now that people are beginning to love it; that's really how trends go: one day you're popular, the next day you're not, and repeat the cycle!
It's been a while since we had Beauty Battles so today, I decided to do one for you guys. I have decided to compare two of the popular powder matte lipsticks according to consumers from both ends of the price spectrum:
Pat McGrath Mattetrance Lipstick vs. Maybelline Powder Matte lipstick.

THE LOWDOWN:
Pat McGrath Mattetrance Lipstick is one of the popular matte lipsticks of today because of its unique texture that's sometimes suede matte, sometimes powder matte; this texture is actually the brand's claim to fame as it's pretty much a category on its own.
Maybelline Powder Matte lipstick is one of the popular affordable powder matte lipsticks; it's well- loved for its true powder matte feel according to users and fans, and the fast turnover of color collections caters to the ever- changing taste of lipstick lovers.
PACKAGING:
Maybelline's packaging is ergonomic, light, and decent for the price; Pat McGrath is quite a showstopper with the shiny black, gold- lined tube with a pouty lip emblem in the middle; Pat McGrath is easier to spot and tbch, more Instagram- friendly lol.

PRICE:
Maybelline is P299; sometimes goes on sale too. Pat McGrath is P2,490.00

QUALITY:
Maybelline Powder Matte lipstick has a soft matte texture and finish is not quite powder matte, but can pass off as that. Pat McGrath Mattetrance is a hybrid between suede and powder matte. In terms of legitimacy, both are not exactly powder matte, but Pat McGrath has the closest feel and look. Maybelline is a bit drying while Pat McGrath doesn't dry out the lips, although it doesn't exactly feel moisturizing because of its formula.
WINNER: PAT MCGRATH
STAYING POWER:
Maybelline has to be retouched after a meal, but stays on for a couple of hours if without eating or drinking. Pat McGrath has a staining effect on the lips and the pigments have better adherence so the lipstick doesn't fade too much after a meal or drink.
WINNER: PAT MCGRATH
To summarize, both lip products are great; Maybelline is a great budget options because it's decent and it works, and Pat McGrath is intense through and through, from packaging to pigmentation, making you feel that it's worth your buck. Personally, I love the hybrid finish of Pat McGrath, not to mention its volumizing, smoothing effect as well; it's actually my most favorite lipstick find of the year!
