One of the things that made me fall in love with writing were books.

I grew up reading books; the Goosebumps series were my first- ever collection and I loved everything, from the classic titles to Nightmare at Fear Street series. As I grew, I moved on to different genres, but one thing that remained is my love for books.

Today, I still love reading books; hanging out in a café and flipping my fingers between pages while sipping a cup of latte is one of my favorite Sunday past times. I actually want to read more often because I have books left to finish! One of my goals this year is to read at least one chapter a day!

I have seen online that it’s time once again for Big Bad Wolf, one of the most awaited book fairs in Manila. Big Bad Wolf started out last year and since it was a massive hit, a second one followed naturally!

Big Bad Wolf Manila 2020 opened last week and it was my first time to visit; sharing my experience here as well as the books I got!

Big Bad Wolf Manila 2020 is currently running at World Trade Center, Pasay City. Before anything else, I just want to say that I love that admission is free!

When I got to the venue, I was expecting that there will be a hoard of bibliophiles; there were still a lot of people, but not to a point that it was claustrophobic already and I had an good, easy time shopping. I also liked that the crowd wasn’t rowdy and generally quiet; they were probably reading while shopping at the same time; gotta love bibliophiles!

When I finally entered the hall, I was stunned; it was the most massive book fair I have seen; I literally didn’t know where to start, but good thing I had a list of genres that I wanted to check and that put a sense of direction in my shopping experience.

Let me show you my most favorite sections and deals!

2.     CHILDREN’S BOOKS

Reading reinforces focus, enriches the imagination, and makes one a good communicator that’s why I love giving books to my godchildren; I also encourage them to read books as a leisure time activity. If you’re a parent or simply a #goodtita like me, you will love the selections at Big Bad Wolf; there’s a MASSIVE selection of titles for children from baby books to young adult novels.

3.    SELF- HELP BOOKS

Nowadays, I love me a good self- help book, most especially if it’s about cultivating healthy relationships, finding peace, reducing stress, and studying various life principles and values of different cultures. I picked up a book about Ikigai in the fair for P230 only and I was super happy with the price because in bookstores, I would have purchased it for around P400+!

4.    HISTORY BOOKS

FYI, History is my most favorite subject in high school! Lots of awesome titles to be found in the fair!

5.     NOTEBOOKS

Another thing that you have to know about me is I am a notebook lover. I almost lost it when I spotted these super cute Polaroid soft notebooks in bright colors! There’s red, yellow, teal, and orange; so aesthetic! It’s only P120 apiece and the quality is superb as well. I almost hoarded!

I spotted PayMaya’s booth in the venue and I’m glad to know that PayMaya is their official Payment Partner. I’ve been using their services since encountering the app last year; it’s so convenient and since I hold my phone most of the time, it’s become an easier way for me to pay for my purchases.

So what do I think of Big Bad Wolf 2020? As a first timer, I found their operations to be organized and as I said, I liked their audience because they were generally families, millennials, and older Gen Zs and were mostly book lovers and quiet shoppers. There’s a good selection for adults, but generally, it’s a haven for kids, young adults, and families because there’s just a grander book selection for them; I think the young adult and children sections alone command ¼ of the space! I find that the discount Big Bad Wolf has advertised is true because I bought so much with my budget and their book prices, comparing it with regular bookstore prices, is around 40-60% off.

  1. Wow, so many books. I love mysteries and detective books. That's why I cooed when you posted the Agatha Christie books. I have read some of her work and watch the TV movie versions of it. I wonder until when they will be open. You're right, it's best to start reading a chapter a day. I have been distracted with a lot of things lately, I feel out of focus. I have to bring back my love for reading, but there's this fuzz inside my head that I need to break out of. Thanks for this post!!
