Review: Kanebo Kate Eyeshadow Palette

Here's a review on Kanebo Kate Eyeshadow Palette

PRICE: To be updated

OTHER LOCATIONS: All KATE stalls in malls nationwide

THE VERDICT:

Kate is a drugstore makeup brand under Kanebo, a Japanese cosmetics company. Perhaps Kate is the baby of the Kanebo family because unlike the other brands, (Coffret D' Or, Lunasol, Impress, Blanchir Superior, and Sensai) Kate exudes a younger and fresher appeal-- it has a wide range of makeups in less intimidating shades and sheerer formulations.

Since I'm digging eyeshadow palettes nowadays, here's a good find from the brand:

Their eyeshadow palette with the WIDE CONTROL PEARL shade is fool- proof, wearable, and newbie- friendly.

The colors in the palette yield light to medium coverage, and are so easy to work with. They are very blend-able, and they look very natural on skin. However, the eyeshadows are pretty chalky, and fallout is very significant. It's always best to use a light hand on this palette, so be sure you have one if you have this.

TIP: If in case you want to intensify your look, apply the colors by layers to prevent fallouts.

Let's look at the colors in this palette:

Shade #1 (Base Shade)- my most favorite shade because it's a close dupe of MAC's eyeshadow in Bamboo. It's matte and intensifies eyeshadow colors without changing their color, finish, and texture. This is the most used shade in this palette because I use it in all my eye makeup looks.

Shade #2 (Medium Shade)- an olive green shade with a taupe-ish undertone. You use it to define your lids.

Shade #3 (Wide Control Pearl)- it's a gold-green shade that magically and miraculously widens your eyes in an instant. Is there some sort of science and sorcery behind this shade? Well, there is some sort of science to it because 1.) It's very glittery, and glitters draw attention to your eyes 2.) Glittery and luminescent shades will definitely make your eyes look bigger. How about sorcery? Nah. :p

Shade #4 (Dark Shade)- aka "Crease Color". You use this one on the outer Vs to deepen your eyes and create fake creases.

Shade #5 (Highlighter)- for the brow bone or 'Tear drop' areas. 'Nuff said.

The look I came up with using the palette.

The palette is a good mix of greens, brown, and gold. You can actually create a ton of looks with it, but only if you'll let your creativity flow. It recommend it to office gals, gals on OJTs, gals who are yearning for some natural eye definition, and gals who don't have the heart (yet) to wear bold smokey eye makeup looks. Also, if you dig shimmery stuff, you will like this.

Staying power is not good though. But if you use it with a good eye primer, it can last for hours, albeit fading is inevitable because the eyeshadows are naturally light and sheer.

In spite of its affordability, (although it could still be a tad expensive than the other known drugstore brands) Kate, to me, is a brand that's worth checking out because it has great quality. In general, Japanese makeups have great quality! This palette comes in a lot of shades so please check out any of Kate's counters in department stores. :)
