THE VERDICT:

The Pretty Powerful campaign was launched over a year ago by Bobbi Brown in the USA. It is a way to celebrate female individuality by empowering natural beauty.

In this day and age, beauty is labeled as something that is cover- worthy. This campaign hopes to break barriers by making women realize that whatever they have is a God- given gift.

“Pretty Powerful symbolizes my belief that all women possess natural beauty, and with the right tools, are empowered to a higher level of pretty: Pretty Powerful. After so many years of seeing similar ‘cookie-cutter’ beauty and fashion images in the media, I do hope that we will start to see a cultural shift towards a more realistic potential for all women.”
- Bobbi Brown

In her campaign, she used real women to model her looks. The women may not be your typical supermodel, but you learn to appreciate their unique beauty and nod at the thought that they too, even if they're in no supermodel look and shape, are worthy to be called beautiful.

Being a fan of an "enhanced" beauty and not an "artificial" one, Bobbi constructed two unique palettes to suit all skin colors and all ages. These palettes contains lovely shades of pinks, mauves, creams, and plums to give women the empowering look that they (we) deserve, without looking over-the-top.

The palettes come in two versions: Pretty (light to medium skin tones) and Powerful (medium to deep skin tones).

I was lucky enough to receive a free palette for joining the exclusive contest of the Philippine leg of the campaign. All of us received the PRETTY palette. Let us now go into the details, shall we?

DESCRIPTION (TAKEN FORM BOBBIBROWNCOSMETICS.COM):

Feeling pretty? Designed for light to medium complexions, this palette was inspired by Bobbi’s signature natural, healthy look. Four eye shadows in beautifully wearable pink and brown tones create a softly defined eye. NEW Pretty Pink Powder Blush adds a fresh pop of color, and two rosy glosses complete the look with a hint of color and lots of shine.

The Pretty palette consists of four eyeshadows, a blush, and 3 lip colors (2 glosses and a lipstick). I'm no fan of palettes, but I can now see the its importance. It comes handy when you don't want to bring too much make- up, and also when you need to put extra make- up for sudden dates, meetings, night- outs, etc.

The palette is sturdy, easy to open, and lightweight. One con is, it doesn't include any brushes for application. It has a huge mirror embedded inside the compact which is enough for you to see and smile at your beautiful face.

Overview of the contents.

Left- Eyeshadow shades: TOP (L-R): Ivory (matte), Pink Flannel (matte) BOTTOM (L-R): Pink Chiffon (Shimmer Wash), Chocolate Caviar (matte)

Right Part- Blush: Pretty Pink (Barbie Pink Shade)

Swatches of the eyeshadows. Top- Bottom: Ivory, Pink Flannel, Pink Chiffon, Chocolate Caviar

Blush swatch: Pretty Pink

Lipcolors: TOP- BOTTOM: Soiree Pink (Glitter lip gloss), Bubble Bath (lipgloss), Sandwash Pink (Lipcolor)

Soiree Pink (chiffon pink shade with flecks of blue and white glimmer)

Bubble Bath (bubbly pink shade)

Sandwash Pink (Sandy pink with a hint of plum)

The consistency of the eyeshadows and blush are smooth and silky. They also give good color pay- off. My personal favorites from the powder make- ups are the Chocolate Caviar eyeshadow (because it sculpts your creases naturally without looking gothic or smoky), and the Pretty Pink blush (makes you look fresh and pretty) The lipglosses, however, are quite sticky for my liking. But they do give off a natural- looking shiny finish. My favorite is the Sandwash Pink lipcolor. It is a pretty sandy pink lipstick with a slight plum undertone. It complements my young look, and it's a nice my-lips-but-better color. The lipglosses don't have good staying power though. But the lipstick stays put at around 2 hours.

Here's moi: Enhanced, but naturally. NOW THAT'S PRETTY POWERFUL!

Overall, I will recommend this palette if you are a fan of natural, fresh, and pinkish looks. Bobbi Brown truly knows what it takes to enhance beauty without trying too hard. This is the first- ever palette that I have treasured. Because I love products that reflect the philosophy of the brand.

  1. Hello =) What did you use on your eyes though. Sandwash pink looks very lovely. However the packaging comes off as a bit cheap :(

Would you buy it with your own money if you had the chance though?

  3. Keesh: thank you! I used choco caviar on the creases, ivory on the brow line and pink flannel as a sheer wash on my lids. :)

    I wouldn't, 'cos I'm not the type who'll blow an instant 3k on a single purchase. :)

  8. This is a 2011 post, but I love how the colors on the palette are classic enough that I'd still want to wear those colors in 2015. The shades included in the palette remind me of Bobbi Brown's own limited edition L'Wren Scott palette that came out last year, though the collaboration spawned a bolder set of colors.
