One of the trainers in Elorde teased me and said that I am blooming lately. Fitness makes me blooming-I've been training hard for the past 5 months, lost so much weight already (5 inches off my waist yo!), and gotten much, much stronger-these results are enough to make me "bloom" because I feel good about myself, thus I feel more beautiful.

That, and I also slather on Ellana's Lip and Cheek Gel before hitting the gym. :D

This product is apparently one of Ellana's best- sellers. Simply put, it promises to give you a natural- looking, all- day flush in a formulation that doesn't dry up quickly so you can blend it perfectly. It comes in two colors, Amethyst and Ruby and I'm reviewing both shades for you guys today.

Product comes in a generous 20ml bottle-I'm guessing this will last me for at least 8 months or so even if I'm using it often. (Because I hit the gym at least 3 or 4 times a week) Bottle is pretty handy and it comes with a resealable pump.

Ingredients: Red 40 (CI 16035), Disodium Dimethicone, Copolyol Sulfosuccinate, Tocopherol Acetate, Aloe Barbadensis, Deionized Water, Propylene Glycol and DMD Hydantoin, Carbomer

Swatches ahead!

Top: Amethyst Bottom: Ruby

Amethyst is a deep red shade while Ruby is a red-orange shade-difference with the color payoff is very minimal though when finally worn. If you have dark skin tone, go for Amethyst. If you have light skin tone, go for Ruby. But this rule is not set in stone though-just choose which color you like the most because I find that both shades show up on any skin color. Texture is a very light, unscented, watery gel. Pigmentation is very good and true enough, it doesn't dry quickly and I get enough time to blend it evenly. It doesn't create streaky marks too unlike Lip and Cheek Tints. I also like the addition of Aloe Barbadensis in the ingredients because this is known for excellent hydration, although you still have to moisturize before usage because this is not a skin care product. It yields a dewy finish and doesn't settle into pores. Lip and Cheek Gels and Tints tend to remove the existing layers of makeup on your skin, that's a fact, but I've found a way to get over that:

1. Apply a pea- sized amount on your palm or a tissue
2. Dab your pointer, middle, and ring finger on the product (make sure the fingers are very close to each other)
3. Bounce the product on your cheeks (try to be quick, but don't rush yourself. Relax! :D)
4. Remove product residue from fingers, then blend the product upwards in a very light and wispy manner to even out the coverage.

I've only tried this technique on this particular product, so I can't say if it will work with other brands and formulations. Oh, it's inevitable that your powder or foundation will fade for a little bit underneath this product-to remedy that, just grab a powder foundation and using a sponge, dab some powder on the exposed marks to blur 'em out. You can also apply this product before your usual liquid or powder bases. My only issue with this product is it stains my fingers big time and it's quite hard to remove.

It's not really the ideal thing to use on lips, especially if you have prominent lines-the gel just settles into the lines and leave you with spotty coverage. Just make sure you exfoliate before usage so it won't look patchy too.

Ah, that's much better. I prefer using this product on my cheeks.

Staying power is very good-it literally last the whole day on my cheeks, and a couple of minutes on my lips. It doesn't come off even when my cheeks are starting to get oily, and it resists sweat too. It's waterproof and sebum- proof and best part is I didn't break out. I'll definitely bring it to my Boracay trip this April. It's a good and very affordable lip and cheek gel that will suit any skin type, and the steady- dry formula is awesome!

11 Lovely Thoughts

  1. looks just like a natural flush on the cheeks... maybe this would also look good under foundie to get more of a glow-from-within look... :)

  2. Wow congrats on losing weight! Hmm this does seem to be a better cheek product, this looks patchy on the lips. It's really rare to find dual purpose products that works well in both ways.

  3. I prefer it on the cheeks too! You really look blooming! I love it :)

  4. I want blush on that stays natural on my cheeks too when I workout..thanks to Ellana! :)

  5. It's gorgeous how a blush can transform a day look to a night look. The ruby looks definitely fresh on you. I have no idea how to work with liquid or cream blushes. They always seem uneven and patchy on my cheeks. Errrr..

  6. This is prefect for teens! I usually have my daughter use this when she needs to go out. Very natural flush and rosey lips! Love it!

  7. I think this will be great for oily skinned commuters like me whose makeup fades away midday.. Hahaha! Loving the ruby shade on you Martha!

  10. Cat: Just layer it more so the color will pop out from all that layer of makeup. :)

    Aiko: Thanks :D

Jesselle: Indeed it's perfect for oily skin. Feels so lightweight too. :)

Leilani: Hahha. I know what you mean. Hey, it's permanent so no need to rush. :)

Joeydragonlady: Hi and welcome to my blog! Yup, and it's mineral makeup so it's gentle too. :)

Majorie: They're best applied before powdering your face. :)

    Issa: Thanks! :D

Kat: Thanks Kat! :D Yeah, would've given it a 5 if it didn't look patchy on my lips. :)

  11. I get so annoyed with "tint fingers", but washing my hands with 'bareta' removes most of the tint immediately. It's a little drying though.
