THE VERDICT:

Laura Mercier’s Baked Eye Trio is a lovely eyeshadow palette comprised of warm earth- toned shades spiked with festive glimmer. These eyeshadows can be worn either wet or dry: Use dry for a sheer finish that’s great for daytime, and wet the colors for an intense, long- wearing color payoff.

Packaging is simple, yet sophisticated—a trademark of Laura Mercier’s products.

It’s quite small and handy too. The mirror on it, however, is too small for me to see my eyes properly-it’s good for emergency touch- ups though.

Here’s a tighter shot of the products.

Gold Leaf- light gold with gold glimmer
Black Karat- deep brown with a touch of green and gold glimmer
Emerald- a beautiful deep green shade with gold glimmer. Among the three, this is my favorite because it is quite a unique color and it flatters my skin tone so well.

I’ve also found out that this palette yields two different kinds of finishes, depending on the usage. Below are more detailed explanations of what I’m talking about:

If used dry, they act like glitter eyeshadows: Finish is medium, and the glimmers are more prominent.

If used wet, they act like metallic eyeshadows: Finish is heavy, and the glitters melt right into the powders, thereby producing this steel- like sheen.

I prefer using them wet because I find that they become more pigmented, the colors come out better and there’s no powder fallout, although the intensity could be a bit too much for daytime wear. For nighttime, it’s fine. It’s not at all bad if used dry as they’re fairly pigmented to begin with.

Here’s a sample look using this palette. I’ve used the eye shadows in their dry state:

Staying power is great, most especially if used with a good eye primer. If used without it, it fades for a little at day’s end.

Overall, this palette is good and it’s best for morenas and girls with dark skin tone. It’s quite versatile too as it can be used for daytime and nighttime. I recommend it to those who want to own a nice, limited edition palette for Christmas, and those who are lemming for an eyeshadow box that’s packed with essential and natural- looking colors. It also comes in another set called Smoky Metallics, and it’s comprised of darker and pretty basic colors like black, gray, and silver. Between the two, I recommend this one more because the color selection is better.

I would also like to welcome everyone to the version 2.0 of my product reviews. Henceforth, I shall provide a rating sheet of the reviewed product at the end of every post. :)
