THE VERDICT:

What we have here is Estēe Lauder’s new Pure Color Gel Cheek Blush, an aqueous blush that’s quite generous with color. I’ve tried a couple of gel blushes in my life and most of them are too diluted with gel to yield a vivid, true-to-color flush, unlike this one.

It’s part of the brand’s Pure Color Cello Shots Spring/Summer 2013 collection. It comes in three other colors: Hot Fuse, Pink Patent, and Techno Jam. The bottle is pretty big yet travel- friendly and painted in bright colors-the color of each bottle represents the shades in this line. Pump is pretty controllable as well.

X-Pose Rose is a beautiful Hot Pink shade. Texture of the blush is watery with a hint of silicone, the secret behind its amazing lasting power. It has a unique consistency that is very much like moisturizer, spreads quite evenly, pigmentation is very good, (you only need dot- sized portions to cover each cheek) and coverage is medium to heavy. Other gel blushes need to be blended asap to prevent getting those ugly streaky stains, but this one sets efficiently leaving you with enough time to blend it in a steady pace. However, don’t think that you can leave it unblended on your cheeks for a long time because it may still leave stains on your skin! It stains fingers though. :p

Two layers of Estēe Lauder Pure Color Cheek Rush

If used with face powder or powder foundation, it will only take you two layers to get a bright flush. At first, you might think that it is not imparting any color so the natural thing to do is to layer it more, but hold your horses! This gel blush is the type that gets deeper and grows brighter after a few seconds-allow it to settle first and apply more should you want more coverage. The only downside of this product is, it clumps on top of powder and erases facial concealers. It’s best applied on clean, bare skin before anything else. If used with liquid foundation, apply three to four layers so the blush will still peep through all the piles of makeup. I would advise BB Cream, Tinted Moisturizer or sheer foundation only.

This gel blush is perfect to use in outdoor activities where frequent retouching is not an option, not to mention it’s non- clogging. I used it once in the gym and when swimming and it didn’t come off! It suits oily skin because it resists facial oil, but works very well with dry skin because it’s pretty emollient, soothing, and does not settle on patchy areas.
