Natural Remedy: Apple Cider Vinegar for Cough and Cold

I'm pretty much a healthy person. I've never been confined in a hospital nor experienced any grave disease, but I get colds and cough every now and then because I sleep very, very late. Cough and cold medicines are necessities for me, but lately, I've had a change of heart. I just had another episode and I decided not to take these chemical medicines anymore as I feel that they don't really cure me-I feel that they're only suppressing the bacteria inside me and after a few weeks or months, the cough and cold are there again to ravage my system. I have never been a believer of chemical cures (it's just that I was raised to adopt this standard) as I firmly stand by the fact that my body has its own way of healing itself and defending itself from mild diseases, and being mildly sick only means I lack certain minerals that can definitely be found in nature. I have completely taken for granted the healing wonders that nature can do to me, thus I am going back and rediscovering it again. I'm no doctor so don't heed my advice, but I know my body well than anybody else. Besides, I don't want my body to be drug- dependent.

I've been reading about homeopathic remedies, especially for the good ol' cough, cold, and flu. Apple Cider Vinegar is the highly recommended natural remedy for these health problems, hence I started researching about it.

Apple Cider is indeed one of the best natural remedies out there as it is a very potent antibacterial essence. This type of vinegar is extracted from Apples and reportedly contains high substances of Pectin which is quite good for the colon apart from other minerals. Other users and manufacturers have claimed that it aids in weight loss, helps stave off cancer, cure diabetes, high blood, and ulcer, although I certainly wouldn't suggest this thing as a cure if you or someone you know is suffering from the following grave diseases. For such diseases, it is still wise to seek your doctor's advice-I would do the same thing too.

The benefits of Apple  Cider Vinegar are as follows:

HEART AND GUT HEALTH- Pectin helps maintain a healthy gut; Its fiber- dense formula aids in tummy problems such as indigestion

BONE HEALTH- Reportedly has high contents of calcium, potassium, and magnesium

BLOOD HEALTH- Lowers cholesterol; helps wash away excess fat from digested food

RESPIRATORY HEALTH- For cough and colds, its high antibacterial properties create a very acidic environment for the bacteria, thus eliminating them.

WEIGHT MANAGEMENT- Helps boost metabolism

BEAUTY USES- Helps restore hair radiance; whitens teeth; helps minimize acne; aids in painless removal of warts.

Please be reminded that these are claims by long- time users of Apple Cider Vinegar, while others are from certain studies about it. Take it with a grain of salt. There are some essays that disparage and disprove the tremendous health benefits of Apple Cider Vinegar, but what I can only say is this: It is very healthy, but it is not a proven cure for serious ailments. I believe it's just meant to boost and replenish the minerals you lack in your body.

For what it's worth, I proceeded and used it as a cough medicine in lieu of chemical cough syrups. I only opted for a natural remedy for my cough, cold and flu to somehow minimize the chemicals I take in every day. I have used it for 4 days and I'm quite happy with the results. I will share them with you after the cut.

This is how I've been taking Apple Cider Vinegar for the past four days: 2 tbsp. of Apple Cider Vinegar, 1 1/2 tsp. or natural honey, and water.

Using a small glass, I pour honey into it.

Next, I take two spoonfuls of Apple Cider Vinegar and pour it into the glass as well.

I mix both thoroughly then I take it in like tequila and follow it up with ice cold water right away, just like a chaser. God, it tastes bad to be honest because it's pure vinegar. It leaves a little taste in your mouth though, so I suggest you chug down two full glasses of water to wash off the taste from your tongue.

By the second day, my stuffy nose started to clear up and my tissue usage was drastically minimized. By the second day, cough showed up in my system and my chest felt really heavy while my throat was clogged big time. On the fourth day, my chest and throat cleared up. Today is the fifth day I'm still coughing, but it's not so bad and I've noticed that I could discharge phlegm easily (I'm so sorry if you're having dinner right now while reading this post!). I conclude, Apple Cider Vinegar is a good remedy for cough and colds!

So that's my short and sweet testimonial on the effects of Apple Cider Vinegar. These are my results and they don't lie. I believe it's effective in healing mild sicknesses, based on usage, but if you don't, let's just agree to disagree. :)

What about you? Have you ever used Apple Cider Vinegar? Share your experience. :)

  5. Hmmm... this is interesting! Coz I also need to tone down the number of chemicals I take in. The last cough medicine I took a few days ago gave me hand tremors so I stopped taking it and instead loaded up on Vitamin C for my coughs and colds, which I think is the reason now I'm getting bad stomachaches. Yikes! It's the season of sickness. Thank you for posting this! Will try this, sis! :)

  10. We have been using apple ciders for a year now and normally, my brother who is a bit hypertensive uses this as maintenance. He drinks 2 spoonfuls (no mixtures) a day. I usually take 1 :D
However, the brand is Bragg and available in the supermarket. This was highly recommended by a colleague since hindi masyadong filtered and andun pa yung benefits.
Might also want to check this out and compare the two.
