THE VERDICT:

I've been searching for a good clay mask; to be honest, I am pretty happy with Pond's Mineral Clay Mask because it's cheap and works just fine in absorbing excess oil and keeping my skin clean and looking fresh, but when during my worst breakout period, I thought of looking for a better mask formula that will address acne and has brightening benefits to boot for post- acne scars. 

I discovered Sand and Sky Australian Pink Clay Mask through Sephora Philippines; it's apparently an online- famous clay mask and highly favored in the beauty blogging and vlogging community. I had no expectations, but after just two weeks of usage, I was in love! This mask helps clarify and smooth the skin, plus helps acne dry much faster, but without the dryness!

Sand and Sky is an Australian skin care brand which is more well- known for their Pink Clay mask series, but they have other skin care products as well.

Australian Pink Clay Pore Refining mask is a brightening and detoxifying mask that has organic liquorice to stimulate cell production, Old Man's Weed addresses hyper pigmentation, Pomegranate provides antioxidant and collagen- boosting benefits, and Aloe Vera's astringent properties tighten the pores.

Ingredients

What exactly is Australian Pink Clay? Found in the land down under, this type of clay is a gentle mix of red and white silica clays, which resulted to a pinkish result. This is apparently a very gentle type of clay, which makes it good for sensitive skin; it is also treasured for its moisture- retaining and non-drying properties, which makes it ideal for dry skin as well. What's said to be unique about Australian Pink Clay is its capability to absorb excess oil and impurities without removing skin's natural oils and moisture.

The product comes in a 60g glass jar; it feels very luxurious and how can I not love the Millennial Pink hue of the packaging LOL.

I also appreciate that the product comes with a mini manual to inform users about the product further and a synthetic brush for hygienic application.

The clay has a soft pink hue and product is virtually unscented; it generally smells like clay, obviously, but seems like the product is masked with a certain type of fragrance and I can't pinpoint what it is exactly. Does this mean pink clay has a very strong, natural odor? Who knows? But then again, the product is almost unscented and I did not experience any negative reaction whatsoever.

The clay has a naturally sheer coverage, but upon application, you may think that you are not applying enough so your tendency will be is to apply more, but don't be fooled because as it sets on the skin, the formula whitens and then thickens; so just apply one to one and a half layer (depending on the area) because I find this concentration enough to cover my entire face.

During usage, the mask feels comfortable; I can still move my face for a bit and it doesn't sting, itch, or whatever while it's on my skin; it is also very easy to rinse out and leaves my skin feeling clean, matte, fresh, but never taut and dry, which I would normally experience with some clay masks.  Meanwhile, the parts of my face that would normally feel dry after masking felt normal afterwards.

I have used this product consistently for two weeks and I have noticed that my breakouts subsided faster, but without dry rings around the zits, which I would normally observe when using clay masks that are highly absorbent and have little moisture- retaining properties; it's like this mask is healing my zits with the power of clay plus moisture!

It's nearly a month since I have been using this product at twice a week frequency and my face looks and feels much healthier and hydrated. If combine with a proper skin care regimen, this mask will definitely do wonders for any skin, especially those who have dry and oily skin types.

As for the brightening benefits of the mask, I have not experienced that yet, unfortunately.

Now I know why this mask is Internet- famous! Sand and Sky Australian Pink Clay Mask is a moisture- induced mask that's great for treating acne, but without the dryness; it's also great for those who want a clay mask that doesn't feel like a 'rock' on the skin!
