THE VERDICT:
Benefit's always been known for the sheer, just tinted lip look, but this time, they're joining the pigmented lip color trend, but the juicy, shiny, cheeky finish that the brand has been known still remains. Benefit California Kissin' Moisturizing Lip Balm is the newest lip product to join the sisterhood and it's Benefit's most pigmented lip color to date! I know, I know, it's not a great time to explore lip products because face mask is here to stay in the meantime, but I always love a good lip color plus I always have Zoom meetings where lip products come in handy!
Anyway, let's get to know this girl!
Ingredients |
Benefit California Kissin' Moisturizing Color Balm is a 12- shade range pigmented balm that promises 8- hour long luxurious moisture and color. Formula contains Wild Mango Butter and Hyaluronic Acid to keep lips moisturized, hydrated, and soft during wear.
The product comes in a vintage- inspired tube with a semi- rubberized cap that covers the bullet all the way to the handle. I like the texture of the cap because it makes it slip- proof and that it covers the entire tube; say goodbye to lost lipstick caps.
The balm has a slanted, circular tip that covers a huge area in one go; it's great for those with wider lips. Meanwhile, I like the standard, pointy lipstick shape-it works for the shape of my lips.
Top to Bottom: Spiced Red, Ruby, Berry, Nude Pink
The balms have a cushiony, gel feel; it's light and doesn't feel heavy nor sticky even if layered twice or thrice. The scent is sweet, buttery mango and even if it's a bit strong, I don't find it cloying. Pigmentation is medium to heavy and has a shiny finish. Despite the semi- wet texture, it doesn't slide off the lips easily, but this is based on two layers; I'm not sure if the experience would be the same if I layered it beyond that, but guessing from the consistency, I think it will bleed for a little as not all layers will set properly. My advice: stick to two layers because it's enough to give you good coverage anyway!
BERRY
Pinkish berry with a mauve undertone. Great for morena skin!
NUDE PINK
When I read the shade, I thought it would be too cool on me, therefore I'd have to stash it in the back portion of my lipstick tray, but I was wrong! It's a midtone brick pink that definitely looks good on warm skin; it's a perfect summertime pink for medium and warm skin tones!
RUBY
Good ol' classic bright red! I have enough reds, but I'm drawn to this color among everything in the collection; I guess I'm loving the playfulness of this red shade!
SPICED RED
An orangey red that's a perfect alternative to the classic red; great for warm and deep skin tones. I'm loving the terracotta hue and it reminds me a bit of MAC Chili, one of my favorite red orange lipstick shades.
Staying power is okay; it has a glossy finish so don't expect it to stay on like a matte lipstick, but it does leave a hint of stain that can last the whole day and imparts whole day moisture.
California Kissin' Moisturizing Balm is your hybrid between a pigmented lipstick, lip stain, and lip treatment. If you're a fan of pigmented lip balms and Benefit, you will like this because I do! My favorite shades are Spiced Red and Ruby!
Have you tried these already? What are your thoughts?
