THE VERDICT:

Here's the highly talked about face powder on Tiktok Philippines as of late: GRWM Cosmetics Velvet Setting Powder. So what do I think about it? Read all about it.

GRWM Cosmetics Velvet Setting Powder is a for-all-skin-types powder with light to medium coverage; can be used alone to even out the skin or as a setting powder to add a bit more coverage to sheerer liquid bases. Formula is vegan and contains Squalane, Kaoline, and Calamine to soothe, moisturize, and mattify the skin. It comes in 8 shades.

I'm not a huge fan of white- colored packaging because it's boring, but the combination of different materials gave GRWM's compact a stylish twist so I approve of this white packaging.

Inside, there's a compartment for the puff, which is totally cool because that spells hygiene for me.

The powder puff has a velvety texture and tapered tip, which allows for precise application on the tight areas of the face. I also like that the powder puff feels soft on the skin and the powder doesn't get stuck on its fibers.

There are 8 shades and for morenas, your best shade match are most likely Linen, Nutmeg, and Maple. I'm using Maple; it's a warm beige with a neutral undertone.

Texture smooth and the powder feels finely milled. It's smoother and a bit creamier compared to a regular setting powder because of Squalane; it doesn't yield a significant fallout just because it's semi-creamy. It is fragrance- free and if you're wondering if it has any weird odor because of Calamine, don't worry, there is none.

Here's my face with two layers of GRWM Velvet Setting Powder; no foundation or concealer on my skin, just primer.

I'd say Nutmeg is a pretty good match. Coverage is light to full, though I don't prefer layering it on for more than two times to achieve heavier coverage because I noticed that it has a tendency to give that powdery look. For its smoothing effect, it yields a decent amount of blur to the skin and conceals pigmentation by 50%. Take note that I generally have good skin so it's easy to say that this powder has a good smoothing and concealing effect; if you have more textured skin and graver pigmentation, you will need to use it with a concealer/base with heavier coverage to achieve a smoother- looking canvas.

How's the staying power? It keeps oil at bay for around 3 hours, but after that, oil will begin to seep through so it has to be retouched. The good thing about it is it stays intact pretty much the whole day, except on the parts that are covered with a face mask-these parts, you need to retouch during wear because makeup transfer on masks is pretty inevitable. This powder is also good for retouching because it doesn't feel heavy and doesn't look cakey if applied on top of oily skin.

For a pressed powder, price is a little steep considering that there are powder foundations in this price range that offer better coverage and has the same staying power (e.g. Maybelline Superstay Powder Foundation and yet this is still a bit more affordable than GRWM's powder), but if you offer better shade options and formulation, the price of the product will really go up so I guess you pay for those things. GRWM Cosmetics, in terms of its pricing, feel, and formula, is pretty similar to BLK Cosmetics in my opinion, but only with friendlier shade options for a majority of Filipina women and generally, better skin care add-ons.

GRWM Velvet Setting Powder is a good everyday powder. Those with mild texture and pigmentation problems will love using it as their everyday powder for that natural look and those with heavier problems will love using it as a setting powder because it has a smoothing effect and adds a bit more coverage without the cakey look and heavy feel. If I may, I'd like to suggest to the brand to improve the payoff a bit more because it tends to give that powdery look if layered on; not really sure what's causing that because the powder seems to be finely milled, but I suspect it's Calamine since this powder is naturally coarse, thick, and leaves a white cast, which can come off as 'powdery'? Not sure, but hopefully, it gets fixed!

Have you tried this product already? What are your thoughts?
