THE VERDICT:

Every time I visit makeup/beauty- related groups on Facebook, the most common question that people ask is "What's the difference between makeup primer/moisturizing base?"

Is there really a difference between the two? Technically, Primer and Base are the same, but there are various types-I should discuss and answer this question in detail in one of my blog posts. For now, let's look at this moisturizing base from Etude House called Precious Mineral Any Cushion.

ETUDE HOUSE PRECIOUS MINERAL ANY CUSHION IN MAGIC PINK AND MAGIC PEACH IN DETAIL

A part of Etude House's Precious Mineral line of face bases, Any Cushion is a range of correcting base that "magically tones up your skin" and has 6 benefits: whitening, anti- wrinkle, sun protection, cooling, brightening, tone- correcting. It is formulated with Albutin and Mother of Pearl extracts and comes in 3 shades: Magic Mint (for redness), Magic Pink (for sallowness), and Magic Peach (for dark spots/uneven skin tone).

Packaging is the same as Etude House Precious Mineral Any Cushion BB Cream.

Swatches and my detailed review after the break.

So yeah, you can eject the compact from the base, but I do not know if Etude House offers refills for this particular product. Would you guys know especially the Etude House fans in here? If yes, please let me know so I can provide the information in this review-due credit shall be given! :)

This product feels just as light, comes off just as sheer, and smells just as light and flowery as Any Cushion BB Cream. As for the coverage, you can build it up to achieve medium coverage.

Magic Pink is a very light Pink with a slight Lavender undertone while Magic Peach is a very light Peach. I do not have Magic Mint, but I've swatched it before and I remember that it's a very pale Mint Green-everything's light!

Between the two, I prefer Magic Peach because it compliments my skin tone and makes it look more even, albeit it is too light.

Any Cushion, to me, is a moisturizing base because its texture is pretty emollient and at the same time, it has a cosmetic function that's why I called it a Base (more about this in my upcoming Primer vs. Base blog post)-if it doesn't deliver the latter, it's better off as a moisturizer. I also think that it can be a CC Cream because it has skin care ingredients and shades are intended for correcting skin discolorations, which is the main purpose of CCs.

I just find the shades of this line too white for my life and formula has no oil control. Honestly, I'd choose an oil-controlling base any day because I have an ample supply of sebum that will keep my skin moisturized the entire day thank you very much. :p I also think that these products need to improve in the pigmentation department for them to make a difference on the skin and to differentiate the shades better from each other.

The nice thing about this product though is it marries moisturizer and color corrector, saving you more time in your makeup routine.

To whom will I recommend this product? To girls with normal and dry skin who have minimal and light skin discolorations to address, and those who are looking for a versatile makeup base that can act as a corrector, moisturizer, sun block, or CC Cream.

  1. I think Etude House offers a refill of this. Well, I haven't seen it in stores but online. I have the pink one and it complements my skin naman so I like it. :) I find the green one too green for me though

  2. Cute and neat packaging ... yes! I agree that Magic Peach suits you better. :) I don't think I would personally try this product because it addresses needs that are different from my own, but I enjoyed reading the concise, well-written review.

  7. I am a fan of this product. I have the shade Magic Pink. I bought it a few months ago. I find this very pale to my skin. I love that the coverage lasts for long hours on my face. The packaging is so cute too. It applies very well and it looks natural when I applied on my face. I totally agree on you that it is for ladies who have dry skin. I just wished It wasn't as pale as my skin color but over all I will repurchase this again.
