THE VERDICT:

Yesterday, it was really hot; it felt like 40 degrees outside and a primer was indeed called for. I dread wearing primer during summer because most of them feel like they're sticking on top of the skin; definitely not something that I want to feel given the temperature. But I needed to wear a primer. Otherwise my face would look like a melting pot of makeup!

Thank goodness Benefit formulated The Porefessional Matte Rescue, a mattifying gel that smooths out pores, keeps skin matte, and makes it feel fresh; it's a fresh, hydrating primer that feels nothing like a primer, but works like a primer!

BENEFIT THE POREFESSIONAL MATTE GEL IN DETAIL

A matte gel that diminishes the look and appearance of pores while its fresh, gel formula helps keep skin feeling fresh and hydrated. It contains Diamond Powder that apparently provides a soft focus, blurring effect.

Ingredients

The gel comes in a silver tube that feels and look luxe, touched with a bit of fun due to The Porefessional heroine caricature. I'm not really fond of screw caps so I hope this will be changed into flip top caps soon (but I am loving the classy look).

The product is a light blue gel with The Porefessional's signature light floral-aquatic scent; it literally feels like a gel moisturizer, but as you blend it on your skin, it dries into a soft, matte finish; absolutely no taut, dry, clogging feeling here!

BENEFIT THE POREFESSIONAL MATTE RESCUE MATTIFYING GEL IN ACTION

The product is invisible once applied on the skin, hence I did not put before and after photos because there's literally no difference to note, except that my skin looked pretty dewy. It makes skin feel and look matte fairly quickly, perfect for those who want to cut their makeup routine shorter; whenever I use this product, I skip moisturizer already because it feels and acts like one!

Staying power is pretty good, which is VERY surprising for a sheer, watery primer. I took this product on a spin yesterday, when, as I said, the weather felt like 40 degrees and my makeup looked okay despite the beads of sweat; oil was controlled for about 4 hours before I retouched, specifically on my T-Zone.

I don't think that it has notable pore - minimizing powers, but I do think that its oil control and ability to prolong makeup wear are the best things about this product; I'm really digging this primer because it's so light, refreshing, very easy to use, and it works; it's primer for tropical countries and best for those with dry and oily skin!

  1. Since it's gel type I'm afraid I might put too much and instead of holding my makeup, I'm afraid that my makeup will just slide. Does it happen with gel type primer? It's my first time to encounter this king of primer.

    1. No, it doesn't it works just like any regular primer; in fact, I even think that makeup sticks well on my skin with it because it hydrates my skin.

  3. makeup artists should invest on this kind of primer.. and also to those who is having an oily skin who loves makeups..

the only primer that i have tried is one from Mary Kay medyo nagkakalapit na rin sa presyo nito but the one i used is silicone-based so di ako sure kung pareho sya ng effect.. plus di naman din ako masyadong oily..

more good products to come benefit!

    1. My favorite Mary Kay item that prolongs makeup is the setting spray; it works!

  4. Judging from the review, I do not think that I would buy this. I do have oily skin and the fact that it could mattify my face for so long sounds so promising. But I prefer primers that gives me glow or somehow lavender toned so that it could brighten my face. Looks like I will be staying with my makeup forever primer (I still have a lot of it plus this is so expensive for me...)

    1. Hello there! Welcome to my blog. Soon enough, I believe Benefit will release deluxe samples for sale; that will let you try out the product without committing to the full size and price. :)

  6. Upon reading this blog post, I think it's like Quick FX No shine Mattifier which is only 90? I can't remember the price. Have you ever tried it Ms. Martha? This product is too pricey for me. :( Maybe I'll just stick on using my quickfx no shine mattifier.

  7. I do agree with you when its scorching hot a normal primer just won't do. There was a time when I reached my work my bb cream was sliding off my face even though I used a primer! I ran out of the benefit porefessional primer and I have to say it works for me but its quite pricey *sigh* Thanks for this review! I'm currently saving for the benefit porefessional primer but I might try this instead :)

    1. I like this better than the pore minimizing product because I need something that will make my makeup stick more than making my pores look smaller. :)

  8. I agree this type of hell-ish weather calls for primer. I love Benefit because their primers are really reliable and are worth the price.

  9. Is it similar to the other porefessional or do they just come in the same line of products? I love the other one and I'm kinda hesitant to get a new one.

    1. This is released under The Porefessional range too; the previous one is for minimizing pores and this one claims to do that plus keep skin matte to boot. :)

  10. I don't use primer because i only wear minimal makeup but i ensure that i put on moisturizer before putting on more products on my face. Is a primer really necessary or will a moisturizer suffice? Thank you!

    1. Personally, I still wear moisturizer underneath because it keeps my face from excreting more oil, which helps the primer in return; I use a gel type moisturizer for fast absorbency. :)
