Heart Evangelista Cobalt Blue Eyeshadow Makeup Tutorial + Spend and Save options

I frequent Albert Kurniawan's IG page because I love how he does eye makeup; I love how he brings depth and attention to the eyes plus how he makes bold colors more wearable. If you're gonna ask me now who's my favorite Filipino makeup artist, it's him!

But what caught my attention and inspired me to whip up another eyeshadow tutorial (after ages!) is this latest look he did on Heart Evangelista:

DAT COBALT BLUE EYESHADOW DOE

He recently did this GORGEOUS Cobalt Blue eye makeup look on Heart for a campaign shoot. It's so beautiful and I love, love, love the classy playfulness it exudes.

So welcome to my rendition of Heart Evangelista's blue eye makeup look!

This is a step-by-step on how I created the look. Effect will most likely come out if you follow the step-by-step, but of course, feel free to do it in your own pace!

Whoops! Pardon the brow regrowths! Don't have time to drop by Benefit yet for a waxing sesh ack!

STEP 1: Get a wide blending brush and matte tan eyeshadow. Dust on above crease. This will help determine the area where we will apply the blue eyeshadow.

STEP 2: Grab a Cobalt Blue eyeshadow and a small shading brush. Dab the eyeshadow all over the lower lid.

True Cobalt Blue eyeshadows are quite hard to find in drugstore brands and you can mostly find them in high end brands, but if you love blue, it's a color that's worth investing on!

STEP 3: Grab a blender brush and blur the edges of the blue eyeshadow and create a gradation effect with the tan eyeshadow.

STEP 4: Go back to step 2 and intensify the coverage on the lower lid. Gently blur out sharp edges using the same brush or a cleaner shading brush.

STEP 5: Grab a tapered blending brush and lightly dab it on a warm pink/light rose blush or eyeshadow (if you have it) and dust on the center of your above crease, where the tan eyeshadow is. Blend to soften the color.

STEP 6: Grab a cobalt blue matte eyeliner and line your lower lash line all the way to the inner corner, but stop right before you hit the edge.

You can also use the cobalt blue eyeshadow as an eyeliner by dampening an eyeliner brush.

STEP 7: Go back to the cobalt blue eyeshadow and set the eyeliner for all- day wear. No need to do this if you used eyeshadow as eyeliner.

STEP 8: Line your eyes, preferably create a sharp, winged line. Use a gel liner for more intensity.

STEP 10: Create a shadowy extension of the winged liner. Grab a pencil brush and a midtone brown matte eyeshadow. In Albert's look, he used the same eyeshadow as the shadow extension, but my cobalt blue eyeshadow has glitter and it's going to reflect light in the wrong places so I chose a brown matte eyeshadow instead.

Using the pencil brush, start by lining the bottom of the winged tip by lining the bottom (#1); extend it a bit beyond the tip of the wing to create a shadow effect. Blend and soften the eyeshadow using a small blending brush.

Next, line the top of the winged tip and connect to the edge of the tan eyeshadow on the above crease (#2). Blend and soften the eyeshadow using a small blending brush.

STEP 11: Grab a smudge brush and apply a light bronze/pale gold metallic eyeshadow on the tear duct and inner corner of the eyes. Don't overdo this one; just a light touch of eyeshadow is enough.

By this part, give yourself a break and do your base, brows, lips, and apply falsies.

STEP 12: Finally, grab a black matte eyeliner and line your waterline. Albert used what seems like a stone gray/dark taupe color on Heart's waterline.

Final look

For the blush, Albert applied it on the topmost part of Heart's cheekbone, almost close to the temples and none on the apples; it's as if it's used as a contouring product.

The first time I attempted this look, I tried doing the sharp blue line that cuts on the crease like Heart's, but it looks weird for my almond- shaped eyes and barely there creases, plus the color gets into the folds and creates an ugly naked line. I decided to blend the edges of the eyeshadow instead and go heavy on the lower lash line to still achieve that visible blue glow.

There you go! Hope you liked this tutorial!
