THE VERDICT:
I think one of the next big things in beauty will be liquid lip balms; because hybrid products are becoming a huge hit lately. I think there are three main reasons behind this rising beauty trend:
1. People just don't have enough money to buy more things.
2. In relation to number 1, people want to get the bang for their buck through products that offer more than one benefit.
3. Because of the lockdown, People just don't want to spend too much time fussing around with makeup.
Luxury and high end brands are of course the first ones to ride the trend; I've first seen it with Huda Beauty while Westman Atelier is one of the more Tiktok- famous brand.
With the astounding improvements in cosmetic manufacturing, speed of trends, and the increasing clamor for pocket- friendly dupes, it was only a matter of time before this booming lip product has reached the realm of affordable cosmetic brands. Thankfully, some local Filipino beauty brands were quick enough to ride the wave and offer budget- friendly versions like GRWM Cosmetics Lip Maxx: a liquid lip balm, gloss, and treatment in one.
Ingredients
Lip Maxx, the newest from GRWM Cosmetics, is a liquid lip balm with nourishing Grapeseed Oil and Vitamin E. Formulated to keep your lips smooth, moisturized, and pretty with a hint of tint. It comes in 13 shades.
The tube is really nice and cute, albeit a bit bulky in my opinion. I guess I'm just used to slimmer tubes in general.
The product comes with a highly flexible wand that you will mistake for as faulty, but don't worry, it was designed that way to withstand varying application force and it is also meant to distribute the product much more efficiently. The wand has a semi- wide paddle shape that helps cover your lips in one go and a curvature that creates a reservoir for the excess product so you get even application all the time.
Here are the complete swatches. Consistency is like gloss, but it's a bit more moisturizing yet lightweight; it feels very much like a hybrid of serum and gloss.
Lip swatches ahead:
Hot Choco
Chocolate brown shade. I loved the color in the tube, but the tint did not show up that well on my lips.
Bellini
Soft pastel pink. I like how this color has made my lip tone look more even.
Maui
Nude brown with a hint of rose. I feel that this shade will enhance brown matte lipsticks and lip liners.
Hello, Apollo
Nude brown with a hint of peach. Not much difference from Maui, but I think I like this one better because it complements my skin tone.
Slush
Warm peach.
Kismet
Wine shade with a brownish hue. The most pigmented among all shades. One of my faves too.
Frisbee
Tropical pink.
Tto-Tto
Pronounced as TOTO. This is a pinkish mauve and is the best- selling shade of the line.
Mimosa
Warm coral.
Confetti
Cool midtone pink. This is a nice cool pink shade.
Fringe
Medium pink. It's a nice casual pink shade.
Love, Charlie
Cherry red.
Disco Ball (special edition)
A clear gloss with shimmer and glitter. It reminds me so much of the playful glosses of the 90s.
Staying power is okay. It doesn't bleed around the lips despite the liquid formula plus it keeps my lips soft and flakiness at bay even if it has rubbed off.
Overall, this is a good and affordable liquid lip balm, and probably the most accessible way to try this trending new lip balm configuration. But how is it different from a regular lip balm? Regular stick lip balms tend to be heavier because they contain waxes, but liquid lip balms are much lighter in terms of formula so it's best for you if you don't like the waxy, heavy feeling of traditional lip balms.
Have you tried GRWM Cosmetics Lip Maxx already? What are your thoughts?
