Lately, I have rediscovered my love for reading. Shame on me. I totally forgot the value of reading just because I was too keen on my current Twitter and Facebook updates.
One time, I decided to read THE ART OF DANCING IN THE RAIN by Garth Stein. From then on, I was hooked on reading again.
I have developed a stronger interest for fashion nowadays. But of course, make- up will always be my first love.
Luxury items are one of the greatest investments, if not the necessary wardrobe staples. The sales of luxurious handbags, clothing, perfume, cosmetics, and accessories rocketed to 15% in the year 2010, which is a huge increase from 8% of 2005.
Is it because people have appreciated the value of luxury? Or has luxury become too affordable?
I've read a lot of good book reviews regarding Dana Thomas' best- selling book: DELUXE: HOW LUXURY LOST ITS LUSTER. Thomas delves deeper into the old world of luxury, and tells you why she laments at its decline in today's globalized world. While most (if not all) of us go gaga over the latest Louis Vuitton, Balenciaga or Longchamp bag release, Thomas thinks otherwise.
It takes courage to go against the grain, especially if you're dealing with and bumping the bigwigs of the fashion and beauty industry. And I admire Thomas for her bravery.
I managed to read the first chapter of this book, and now I'm totally hooked! Apart from fashion and beauty rants and raves, this book lets you peek at the wonderful and glamorous history of fashion. Also, you get second hand information from Bernard Arnault, Tom Ford, Marc Jacobs, Miuccia Prada, etc. about the secrets of the industry that your fashion and couture magazine wouldn't tell you.
Definitely, I'll be able to finish this book in a week. But I know me, I tend to lose focus easily. But for this book, I will try my best to not lose focus. I have so many interesting facts to share from the book and an opinionated/scholarly post to boot for my beloved readers.
Okay. I am talking too much. But 'tis a good read. If you're planning to buy one, by all means, do. :)
