BEAUTY BATTLES: AFFORDABLE YET EFFECTIVE MAKEUP PRIMER

Let's compare and contrast the two most affordable and effective face primers I have ever tried.

ETUDE HOUSE: P478.00
NYX: P620.00

Etude House's Goodbye Pore Ever Primer is meant to keep sebum at bay, while NYX HD Foundation blends into fine lines for a smoother looking canvass in real life and pictures. So which one is my best bet?

TOP: Etude House; BOTTOM: NYX HD Primer

When it comes to consistency, both are very spreadable. Both have a light baby powder scent too.

I like the fact that NYX's primer erases fine lines, but it doesn't considerably cover facial marks and scars. It also leaves a white cast on my face too, so I can't go overboard with this one. Etude House, on the other hand, leaves no trace of color, and it imparts a silky feel to my skin. It has oil controlling ingredients such as Silicone and Mica. I love it because it doesn't have that weird texture of Silicone- based primers. It feels like a moisturizer that dries to a semi- matte finish if blended properly.

NYX's HD Primer can last up to 8 hours of wear. It really made my face look smooth, but it is not effective when it comes to sebum control. Etude House's primer may not be effective when it comes to erasing fine lines, but at least it keeps my oilies at bay. If oil is kept at bay, foundation stays longer on the skin. Another problem with NYX's HD Primer is, it has a tendency to make patchy areas appear prominent because it has a white tint.

Since fine lines are not my problem yet, I would have to go for Etude House's Good Bye Pore Ever. It's cheap, it works, and it reminds me of my favorite primer, Never Let Them See You Shine from Philosophy.

THE BEST AFFORDABLE YET EFFECTIVE PRIMER AWARD GOES TO:

  4. Ms. Martha, is it a must po ba to use a make up primer?? Hmm, sometimes kasi naca-cakey ang foundation ko, lalo na kapag nagliquid foundation ako then nagpowder. Is it acceptable to use a gel moisturizer (like skin79) as a primer, since i don't have a make-up primer? Anyway, thanks for this post, i think i need to save some bucks and buy that primer from etude house.

How does it compare with Majo-majo skin lingerie when it comes to oil control? :)

  6. jen: it's recommended to those who have oily skin. :) not familiar with skin79 though. any king of moisturizer will do, as long as you moisturize prior to applying your makeup to create a barrier on your skin before the makeup itself.

cai: oos? hmmm...Got this from SM Makati. You might get one from there. :)
