FOTD: Discreetly Blue

Blue is such a striking and tricky color that it can turn you into an exotic goddess or a tacky starlet in an instant. (But of course, we all want to be the exotic goddess, right?) I used to stay away from blue makeup for fear of being dubbed as the little mermaid or supermarket muse. But I realized that there's really nothing to worry about if you want to wear blue makeup. All it takes is a little know-how and courage.

The trick to wearing blue eyeshadow/eyeliner is knowing which shade of blue suits your skin tone best. If you have fair skin, light and pastel blues are your best bet, while dark- skinned ladies will fare well with dark, navy, royal, and cobalt blues. Hair Color has a great impact as well on what blue shade will suit you. Same rule: Dark Hair= Darker Blues; Light Hair= Lighter Blues.

But fashion is ever- changing, and new seasons call for new trends. The 'Blue Rule' seems rather obsolete, as runways and print media are becoming more and more adventurous with color combinations nowadays. In makeup and fashion, it only boils down to one rule: If you break boundaries or stay with tradition, stand by your choice and be proud of what you're wearing. So go ahead. Buy that glittery blue eyeliner. I know you've been dying to have that. :)

For this FOTD, I wore Laura Mercier's Lengthening Mascara in Bleu and Royal Effem's Kohl Mirage in 200, a bluish-purple shade. Both products gave birth to this lovely vintage blue eye look that makes my eyes pop. It gave my face that summery vibe! It's also a refreshing break from serious black mascaras and eyeliners. :)

Rule of thumb in makeup: Just always remember to tame down everything if you decide to emphasize on something. (unless you're doing theatre or avant garde makeup)

Hehe naalala ko po i tried to wear the smokey eyes using pastel blue and dark blue sa work, sabi ng tita ko ang ganda daw pero parang at the end of the day nagmukang super tired yung itsura ko, hehe siguro kasi masyadong too much yung nagawa ko. But now I know na how to balance the look :) Thanks for sharing!
