THE VERDICT:

Here's a "wonder product" called Lip Boom from a newfound brand called Makeup Academy. It's pretty interesting because it claims that it will give your lips dramatic volume sans the stinging feeling you get from plumping lip products.

Lip Boom's claim to fame is that it's actually formulated and designed by Makeup Academy's esteemed makeup artists. Lip Boom is your personal access to Makeup Academy's professional makeup tips and tricks.

It's a dual- ended product with the following products: A lipstick in a pastel shade and matte finish, plus highlighting gloss with glitters.

The shade I got is Cheeky. Click READ MORE and see my detailed review, plus check out the different ways to wear Lip Boom

Here are the swatches.

Lipstick- Pastel Pink with a matte finish; similar to MAC's St. Germain
Lipgloss- Warm pink with chunky silver glitters

Here's a lip swatch of the lipgloss. I have some reservations about it though: I find that its shade is too dark, and makes your lips appear smaller. It actually defeats the idea of Lip Boom. The glitters are so huge, that it gives the lipgloss a gritty texture and look. (Hello sugar scrub lipgloss!) And instead of reflecting light, the glitters absorb it.

But at least the lipstick stays true to its claim--it really makes your lips stand out. The lipstick has a lovely quality: It's lightweight, build-able, long-wearing, and opaque, although it's a bit drying.

There are three ways to wear and optimize Lip Boom. Check them out below:

FIRST WAY: Lipstick only

I find that this is the most effective way to take advantage of Lip Boom's lip plumping effect. The matte, pastel color lifts your lips, giving it a kick of volume.

SECOND WAY: Lipstick+Lipgloss on the middle of the lower lip

This is the second most effective way for me. It is no secret that dabbing gloss onto the middle part of your lower lip gives an illusion of pouty lips.

THIRD WAY: Lipstick+Lipgloss All Over

This is the least effective way for me. I find that the lipgloss dilutes the color and affects the matte finish. And even on its own, the lipgloss cannot make lips look plump or pouty.

Staying power is pretty good, but only if you use the lipstick. If coupled with lipgloss, it gets wiped off easily. It has a faint vanilla scent which is very reminiscent of MAC's famed lipsticks. Cheeky compliments fair, medium, and dark skin tones.

It's a good product, most especially if you love pastel colors. However, it could've been a great lip plumping product if 1.) The lipgloss shade is clear 2.) The glitters are smaller and more reflective. I would recommend this particular product and shade to you if you love MAC's St. Germain because it's a great dupe. If you have thin lips, the finish of the lipstick can help your lips appear thicker. Just do the First and Second ways because as I've said, these are the most efficient ways to use Lip Boom.

  2. Wow! A la Nicki Minaj's Pink Friday :)

Dual-ended makes it more appealing because you don't have to bring your lipstick and lip gloss separately. You can bring them together in just one tube. That's why it's called LIP BOOM. Amazing :)

  7. The lip color reminds me of Minaj! :D I love the pink pastel color of the lipstick alone, however, yep the glitters look so huge it seems like a lip scrub O.O
