Review: M.A.C Lipstick in Ruby Woo

Here's a review on M.A.C's Retro Matte Lipstick in Ruby Woo

PRICE: P950.00
PLACE BOUGHT: Ebay.ph
OTHER LOCATIONS: M.A.C stores in: Trinoma, Glorietta 2, Ayala Center Cebu, SM Mall of Asia, Powerplant Mall, New Eastwood Mall, Shangri- La Mall.

 THE VERDICT:

Since you now know that my most favorite red lipstick shade is M.A.C's Russian Red, you're probably wondering what's my second most favorite. This is it. I'd like to believe that Ruby Woo is one of M.A.C's most popular red shades. Who could blame us? It's impossible not to love this universally flattering shade of lipstick.

Ruby Woo is a blue-based ruby red shade with a very, very slight orange tint. The orange tint gives it a warmer tone. If not for it, it would literally look like an in-house dupe of Russian Red. The only difference between the two is the tone: The former is a fresh, bright red, while the latter is the subtler kind. I also categorize it as a Retro kind of red.

Ruby Woo has a Retro Matte finish. Its consistency is a hard type of wax. When applied, it drags for a bit because of its texture--it's even harder than the brand's Matte line. This is so not apt for people with severely dry lips as it will emphasize dry areas and worsen them big time. Staying power is fantastic: I've observed that it somehow resists moisture because even after one meal and a few sips of water in between, it's still intact, although it fades for a bit when I eat something oily. Normally, I don't have to retouch it during wear.

Here is Ruby Woo on me. I hate the texture, but I love the color so much that it's fine with me even if it causes my lips to crack and flake. I've been using it for a long time and I've found a better way of using it. Check it out:

1. Before usage, I apply a sheer layer of lip balm, let it stay for 2 minutes, and wipe everything off. This technique tames down the dry areas. Twice a week, I scrub my lips to get rid of them.
2. For easier application, I warm it up on the back of my hand to soften up its consistency.

It's one of my favorite reds. FYI, all of my favorite reds are from M.A.C. They're: Russian Red, Ruby Woo, Viva Glam 1, and Diva. I wanna get Lady Danger next because I've been hearing a lot of good stuff about it.

Stay tuned for my Fan Mail Fridays tomorrow as I am going to talk about how I work matte lipsticks. Incidentally, tomorrow's FMF will be the first- ever Youtube version! Make sure to drop by my blog tomorrow! :D

  10. I wanna try MAC Dubonnet. It's not matte but more of cream so it's more hydrating but not shiny. Also has slight brown tones so it might work with my skin well.

Joyce: Thank you for sharing my dear! That's a good shade too and I want to get it, but figured that I already have a similar shade. :)

Jenny: that's okay dear as long as there's a rest day in between. :D

Jade: Hi Jade! The makeups used are indicated on its respective EOTD post. It's one of the most recent looks I've made so please go to the archive and click the EOTD CREATIONS link. :) As for the hair color, I had it done at JURO salon. :) They used Goldwell, a brand of hair color products. I didn't find out what shade was used on me though. :p If you're interested, please visit JURO salon at Kensington place, burgos circle, the fort. :)
