I really admire YSL's modern take on the French Manicure, hence I am doing it for you guys today. I have used the combination of Black and Gold in this tutorial as they're two of my most favorite colors, but you can whip up your own color combinations too!
I made this nail art using the tape method. So what is it? Simply put, it's a technique using good ol' scotch tape. It helps you create cleaner lines, especially those who are not so skilled when it comes to drawing linear ones. (Like me!)
What you'll need:
Base Coat (Optional)
Top Coat
Base Color (My choice is black)
Tip Color (My choice is gold)
Scotch Tape

Step 1: Cut 10 horizontal strips of scotch tape, and stick them onto a surface. The width depends on you. As for me, I went for medium thickness.
Step 2: Apply base coat on your nails, (sorry, forgot to do that in this pic!) let it dry for a minute, and gently and carefully place one strip of scotch tape onto the tip of your nail bed--make sure it's straight. Press firmly, especially on the sides, so the tape won't come off nor slide around once you start applying the base color. Do the same thing to the rest of your fingers. The scotch tape will act as a barrier for the tip of your nails.
Step 3: Apply your base color.
Step 4: Once you have applied the base color on all fingernails, gently peel the scotch tape sidewards. Once you're through peeling, your nails will look like this. Using a fine brush, Q tip, or an orange stick wrapped with cotton, clean the smudges on the rim part of the base color and sides of your nails.
Step 5: Apply the tip color gently on the topmost part of your nails. Let your nail art dry up completely before sealing with a top coat.
Tadah! You're now sporting a fab YSL manicure! Let me know how you like this tutorial! Keep on checking back for more easy nail art tutorials like this one!

Love this fool-proof method! Will be trying this color combination. :)
ReplyDeleteThis is so fab, Ms. M! I love the combination of black and gold :) I'm gonna try this one tonight! I guess it would be a lot easier for me if I'll apply the gold first (as a base color). Let it dry. then cover the surface of gold you want to keep with scotch tape, then apply the black manicure. Once it dries, remove the scotch tape then tadaaa! A more precise line between the black and gold. Thanks for this Ms. M! :)
ReplyDeleteomg this is so cute! i definitely gonna do this~! even in my toeanails! haha ill try! haha
ReplyDeletemaybe ill substitute caronia butterscotch for the gold! and i suc on doing the tape method.haha.i really love this martha! yay!
It never occurred to me that you can actually do this tape technique to create a perfect french tip on your own nails! I normally let professional manicurist do it to me since i always mess up doing french tip on my nails. I learned another trick thank you! :)
ReplyDeleteNAILAHOLIC there:) meron na naman akong magagawa for my NOTD:) good tip Ms. M!
ReplyDeleteI love how opaque dat gold is on your nails. Tip: use a masking tape instead of scotch tape kasi less adhesive un masking. Ul run less chances of the tape peeling off some of your polish. Have you tried konad? Super easy pero mukhang ineffort yun effect
ReplyDeleteIf only I could paint my right nails. Huhu. I guess practice really makes perfect. And malaking tipid din kung ako na gagawa sa nails ko instead magpupunta pang nail salon every 2 weeks. With your nail tutorials, I can create unique designs on my own. May extra charges pa pag sa salon e. Thanks thanks for the tutorials. :)
