5 Surprising Uses For Nivea Creme That You Probably Didn't Know

That flat, small (or sometimes huge) blue tin filled with white, creamy gunk that you see lying around your house since time immemorial? It's the good ol' Nivea Creme, a 100- year old household and skin care remedy that's as essential and popular as the Alcohol. What about it? I'm here to tell you that it's more than what your grandma or momma had told you. :)

In my El Nido trip with Nivea, I had a good conversation about skin care products-specifically Nivea products, of course-over cocktails and fruit shakes with Alex, one of the senior managers of Beiersdorf. We talked about our Nivea favorites and it's nice to know that we're both digging Nivea Soft Creme and he also loves Nivea Baby Smoothy Cream, which is a major favorite of Julia, Beauty Blogger at Bless My Bag. What got me listening the most was when he talked about the various uses of Nivea Creme and my, I was even surprised to know that it had THAT number of uses. Alex also showed me a pocket- sized version of the Nivea Creme and gaaaddd, I hope they bring it here! :)

What's in this popular white cream anyway? It's a simple mixture of classic ingredients that have been tried, tested, and proven to moisturize, hydrate, protect, and soothe the skin. It has skin beneficial ingredients such as Panthenol and Glycerin, but the star of them all is EUCERIT, the first and only skin care formula used in Nivea Creme from then 'til now. Eucerit is a proprietary compound and was considered a skin care breakthrough when it was invented as it was the first stable water-in-oil emulsion that has been proven to keep skin moisturized naturally, effectively, and for longer. What Eucerit does is it mimics the natural balancing act of oil and water on your skin surface so that means it can adapt to and protect your skin in the driest and coldest conditions. Even after a hundred years, Eucerit still works for all people of all ages and that's why Nivea Creme will never go out of style--EVER!

So that's what makes Nivea Creme so special! Meanwhile, here are some of the surprising uses for this product-I've tried 'em myself and everything went fine. Click READ MORE and you'll never look at that blue tin the same way again! :)

The first Nivea Creme

1. Hand Salve

- You don't have to spend over 500 pesos on a hand cream, that's what I've proven to myself lately. With just P50 or P60, you can give your hands some TLC with Nivea Creme. It is super emollient and I use it after washing the dishes and lately, I've been applying it on my palm blisters (due to lifting) to keep 'em from turning into full- grown calluses. A pea- sized dot goes a long way. ;)

2. Night Cream/Moisturizer

- The truth of the matter is, Night Creams, whether they're pricey or cheap, have one main goal: To keep your skin moisturized as you sleep. Dryness-due to air conditioning and lack of water intake for more than 8 hours-is one of the root causes of aging-this is why night moisturizers were formulated to be richer and thicker than day moisturizers: they're meant to keep your skin moist and supple for hours. Sure there are fancier anti-aging ingredients out there, but a well- moisturized skin is enough to keep those wrinkles at bay for a few more years. If you can't shell out thousands of pesos on a fancy night cream, I've got two words for you: NIVEA CREME. I use this as a 'sealant' for my serums. ;)

3. Make Up Remover

- When traveling, just purchase a small tin of Nivea Creme and voila! You now have a makeup remover and night moisturizer in one product. :)

4. Post- Wax Creme

- It's imperative to moisturize waxed skin a few hours after the treatment. If you just need a regular moisturizer and you're not dealing with ingrown hair, forget all those pricey post- waxing solutions and just apply a thin layer of Nivea Creme on the treated part-that should be enough to keep your skin from turning dry and dead skin cells from clogging your pores. I do this!

5. Lip Balm

- Surprise, surprise! Yes, I am surprised myself to know that this product can be used as a lip balm too! I tried it for a week and it's as good as a thick lip balm, and it doesn't have any weird taste at all. It's just a lil' waxy, but works great in keeping your lips soft as you sleep. :)

Aside from these cool uses, you can also use it as an Elbow and Knee softener, Neck Cream, and foot cream! Nivea Creme is not just a plain moisturizer-it's a skin care powerhouse! If you have a tin of Nivea Creme at home, you now know what else to do with it later! :D

  1. This cream has been around for years but I didn't know you can use this as a make-up remover and lip balm! (Thank you for letting me know haha!) I only just use this in skin areas that are dead dry and thirsty and it does not have much fragrance to it which I like. I also remember my mom using this on me when I was little since it's so gentle enough to be used on children and I remember enjoying how it glides smoothly on my skin with its thick consistency. I love how it keeps my skin moist for a long period of time. What I also know is that you can mix this with your fave face moisturizer for extra hydration. It will take time to settle but it gives amazing results! Thank you for sharing what you know about this “almost-ancient” product!

  3. I'm a big fan of Nivea lotions. It's the only lotion that keeps my skin moisturized without the greasy feeling. But haven't tried this blue one. I actually bought the rejuvinating one (which comes in white tub) which can also be use in hand, body and face and I'm loving it Ms.M. Specially the scent. My brother and boyfie said it soothes their sunburn.

  9. I have 5 unused tins of these at home. Long story... Anyway, I love Nivea Creme. It really is one of the best in terms of basic moisturizing properties. I've never tried it anywhere else but the face, neck, and hands. Not sure if I'd use it as a lip balm because I find the scent a little strong.

Huge fan of Nivea Baby Smoothy Cream. Heavenly scent! :D

  10. I've been seeing this cream ever since I was born. No, seriously. I thought at first that it was just a random cream used by my mom everyday. I didn't expect to see all those uses from just 'a cream in a tin can.' Seriously, wow. I wanna try this as a night cream/moisturizer and lip balm. This is one hella helpful article Ms.! Thanks very much for sharing! <3

  16. My Mom is a loyal user of this specific product for more than a decade. When I received a big tub of this last year, I researched about other uses of this creme, 'coz my face doesn't seem to like it as a moisturizer:too thick, I guess. So,I was fortunate to know its uses:) People abroad especially in very cold places super love this product during winter. According to their site and some loyal users,it can also be used for sunburns, it has healing effects:)

  17. I was so shocked about the recent Nivea TVC showing the cream in tin can. It reminds me of my childhood days because my mom used to have it around our old bathroom cabinet ♥ I don't even know it can be used as a lip balm. This is what I've been constantly asking to my sister, can we really apply it on our face? :O It won't cause any break outs?

I also googled the bg song of the new Nivea tvc too! =)) *Eargasm*

  19. My mom and lola and other aunties also have that blue tin. And now, im surprised that I also have this around for a long time but neglect to use it. Im so afraid that the fragrance and the thick texture wikl break me out. Im definitely give this a try after the event that im about to attend haha. Mahirap na baka dumami ang icoconceal. And I use this pala, during school hours because my hands tend to get dry because Im a washing room addict. I wash my hands all the time so i feel that my hands are a bit dry and because of cold air from aircon.

  20. I'm a big fan of Nivea creams for years. However, I also find this a really great cream to use on leather handbags, coats, and shoes/boots of colour. Especially good for leather shoes that have white/coloured stitching that would otherwise discolour using shoe polish. Use on handbags and coats or even leather suites when they get scratched. Apply Nivea liberally and the leather comes up like new.

  28. It might surprise people, but I think this creme is also helping with my daughter's eczema!! She has had it for over 1 year on both of her arms, the insides of her elbows. We have tried various ointments and cremes from the pharmacy and prescribed by doctors, I even paid for an herbal ointment hand made by a herbalist and nothing worked, they actually made the itching worse. One day out of the blue I decided to try Nivea Creme, applying it 2 times a day, we have been doing it for about 1 1/2 months now, the itching is much less, and one of her arms is almost completely healed!!! I was shocked that something so simple was the solution, it might not work for everyone but it does for her!! We will continue using it daily and hopefully it will continue to help her heal.

  32. My daughter had been using a diff moisturizer and sadly that one is always sold out... bec they say koreans would buy 3-5 of it at once. She was actually sad that she might not be able to find a new moisturizer that she could really rely on other than the former product. So i told her to try nivea creme. I dont actually use this creme but my dad did. I remembered when he was still about in his 30's or 40's when he had a big problem of dry skin that produces flakes. It was really digusting and it was all over his face, neck and ears. My daughter had this similar problem on her face that is why she started to use moisturizers. So she bought one and told me after a few days that it works really well. It was a bit pricy than the other one but it has a thicker consistency, thus mas matagal maubos. She compared it to the former product which was herbal, she noticed that nivea gave her a more long lasting mousturizing effect, fairer complexion, and pinkish cheeks. So even without makeup she has glowing skin with less dark spots.

  33. My daughter who had dry flaky skin turned to nivea creme and voila!! It worked well. Her skin is not dry anymore, her complexion became fairer with pinkish glow on her cheeks and nose tip. Her fark spots on the face also faded.
