THE VERDICT:

A lot of you have clamored for the review of this particular BB Cream (via blog comments and email), so here it is now. :)

ESSENCE COSMETICS PURESKIN ALL-IN-ONE BB CREAM IN NATURAL 20 IN DETAIL

Essence All-In-One BB Cream marries moisturizer, foundation, makeup base, and SPF in this handy little tube. It comes in three Asian- friendly shades and at a super duper affordable price--not so sure if this is just around P150.00, but as far as I remember, it won't go above P200.00.

Ingredients

It is also dermatologically- tested, oil- free, fragrance- free, and it doesn't clog pores.

Comes in a squeeze type tube and in one size only, 30ml. The mouth of the tube tends to accumulate some product so wipe it clean after every use. (That is, if you're OC like me. :D)

Natural 20 is a light beige shade with a mix of beige and yellow undertones, with beige being more dominant. Texture is in between watery and creamy, and it dries to a semi- matte finish. The product, when blended evenly, just melts into the skin and gives a very natural and dewy coverage. While I don't agree that its shade is friendly to Filipina skin tone, I definitely think its texture and finish is perfect for our weather! No fragrance indeed, doesn't feel thick on the skin, and coverage is light to medium, but I only apply one layer of it because it has a tendency to yield a white cast on my skin-as you can see, it's not my shade match.

Bare skin

Moisturizer-check. It's very emollient and keeps my face soft despite its semi- matte finish. Makeup Base-check. Its semi- matte finish helps control the oil production on my skin while I'm doing my makeup (yeah, my face can be that oily), albeit it cannot control oil during wear. Foundation-not quite. It can unify my skin tone, but it cannot conceal grave discolorations as it is quite sheer--I appreciate the honest labeling on this product because it said that it can only cover light imperfections, which is what it can really do. SPF-check. This BB Cream has the standard amount of SPF-no need for extra sunblock.

WORK IT: Most of the time, I use a stippling brush with it to get a decent amount of coverage for my tanned skin. Works well with fingers too.

Essence Pureskin BB Cream+Estee Lauder Invisible Powder

Staying power, if used on its own, is okay: It takes a good 1- 2 hours before I oil up, and needs to be retouched at least two to three times, especially on oily skin. I would recommend this product to gals with combination and normal skin, although I'm not really sure how it will fare on dry skin since it has a semi-matte finish--best thing to do is to try it on the counter!

Since the shade's too light for my skin tone, I only use it during daytime and always set it with a darker setting powder to tame the white cast. Methinks this particular shade will suit ladies in NC30-NC35 skin tone. (MAC's shade system) It's not for special events, but rather it's a good everyday BB Cream and makeup base: Use it alone or with foundation, or even use it to lighten up dark foundation. This product is perfect for those who don't need to conceal a lot. It's also very friendly to teens because the finish is quite sheer, and your mothers won't go wondering why the heck are you wearing thick makeup. :D

It's not for me, but I'd say that for a very affordable BB Cream, it has good quality!

  2. For its price, fair enough. :)

  3. I just don't get bb creams. The bb creams I already have, I do the same thing, correct the shade and tone with a setting powder. And that takes a lot of work.

  5. Well it seems like a pretty okay product for something that inexpensive. I guess I'm still sticking with my SanSan BB Cream! :D

  9. I would liken it more to a tinted moisturizer. If it were marketed as such then I would like it more. I like my bb creams to have a little more ( ok a LOT more ) coverage than that. Thanks for the review!

  13. Its price is 319 pesos, but right now it's actually sale @ SM. This is a boo-you product. Better use Maybelline's BB cream. Its 1/5. looks cheap when applied to skin. ew
