THE VERDICT:

My skin has been experiencing some form of Nirvana for the past few weeks: Breakouts were significantly reduced and it was back to its super smooth state, except for the post- acne marks that I've been consistently trying to remedy. I've kinda' let go of my super strong skin treatments just to give my skin a rest, but that didn't mean I relaxed from my skin care regimen because impending breakouts could be just lurking around and may occur anytime-I'm currently using this Monolaurin Gel from VMV Hypoallergenics as a maintenance product to ward off pimples, zits, and skin bumps.

VMV HYPOALLERGENICS ID MONOLAURIN GEL IN DETAIL

Id is one of VMV's skin treatment lines targeted to acne- prone skin. Aside from this product, I have the Id Facial Scrub and I really like it. (which reminds me, I have yet to review it!)

Ingredients

Just a refresher, Monolaurin is a coconut- derived ingredient that's best known for its antibacterial properties. This multitasking gel de-clogs pores, kills bacteria, and can be used all over the body, especially by those who get body pimples and experience folliculitis regularly.

Consistency is a rich, watery gel with high absorbability and yields a cooling effect to the skin. It is fragrance- free, but reeks of a strong alcohol scent-it's a little too much especially if the product touches my nose, so I always apply a small amount on that part every time. Also, it can sting for a wee bit, but it's bearable. It mattifies the skin instantly and prepares it for a flawless makeup application, but it should not be considered as a makeup primer as it does not do anything to keep makeup intact.

My skin nirvana was interrupted a few days ago: I got tiny bumps on my forehead and I'm suspecting that the culprit was my monthly hormonal cycle. I applied this gel on the bumpy area and voila! the bumps were gone the next day. It can also treat small zits in one to two days, but for the bigger ones, it might take around 2-4 days or sometimes, with the help of a spot treatment. When the weather is hot and my skin's feeling congested, I apply this gel all over because it gives off a wonderful freshening, cooling, and tingling sensation, although I don't do it often as its high alcohol content may strip off too much oil and moisture from my skin. I've been using it for more than a month now and I think this baby really helps delay and minimize breakouts. I don't exactly know how Monolaurin works, but for what it's worth, it's truly effective because right now, my skin's still looking A-OK!

This product is great for oily skin types because it gets rid of excess sebum and keeps skin breakout- free for a good period of time, although I wouldn't recommend it as a sole treatment to heal grave acne conditions as it's just a maintenance product for me. For those with Rosacea, I would recommend that you use it with care or sparingly because its alcohol content might be too harsh for your sensitized skin.

  3. My sister, who suffers from adult acne, recommends this. It really helped mitigate breakouts. But sadly, this did not work for me. An angry pimple popped up the day after. I guess it still depends whether you're hiyang to the product or not.

  5. BrownOso: Ah, the much anticipated VMV Skin Soiree! Too bad, I wasn't able to go last April. I'll definitely go to their last one this September! :)

Aileen: Hi there and welcome to my blog! :) Awww...sad that it didn't work on you. And you're right, everything still depends on your chemistry with the product. :)

Rhain: Lucky you! I'm not really pimple prone, but due to some bad lifestyle changes, I am now. Gotta get my old skin back!

CJ: Better to invest in good skin care first so you don't have to spend too much on makeup to cover your blemishes! :)
