THE VERDICT:

I'm not really a fan of silicone primers, but what pushed me to try this was the 'Velvet Touch' claim on the bottle. This primer was pretty straightforward also to say that it's the 'Perfect Base for all Makeup.' Hmmm...let's see!

This primer, aside from claiming that it's the 'be all and end all' of all primers is also fragrance- free and preservative- free. It says it can fill in fine lines and pores for a smoother-than-smooth finish, and of course, provide a velvety base for breezy, even makeup application. Velvet Touch is actually a line of primers by Gosh, and variants include Cream (perhaps this is a more moisturizing formula) and Apricot (fortified with Matrixyl 3000, an anti-aging peptide).

Nice to know that this primer is devoid of a ton of ingredients, but still use with caution especially if you think you are allergic to Dimethicone or Polymer ingredients.

More about this product after the break!

Packaging is pretty basic, easy-to-use, and the pump dispenses just the right amount of product. Gosh also said that bottle is an air-tight container, with a plate at the bottom of and inside the bottle that pushes the product all the way up. So that means you will get to use every single drop.

Texture and consistency is very similar to Smashbox Photofinish Primer because both almost have the same main ingredients, but I believe the one by Gosh is cheaper but I don't know which one works best. It's completely unscented and feels very light, and you don't feel that a layer of silicone is blocking your skin. I've swatched Smashbox's primer before and I kinda' remember that it feels thicker compared to this, but if you apply a lot, it will feel thick, of course! You don't need a lot anyway because consistency is very spreadable.

The 'Velvet Touch' promise is sooo true. After covering my skin with the product, my skin feels super duper smooth and I couldn't stop touching it! And because of that smoothness, my foundation glides on better and it looks more even effortlessly even with minimal blending. I also noticed that the primer kinda' reduces the appearance of small face bumps by putting a veil on top of it. I also like the not-so-slippery texture of the product.

Oil control is so-so, with my T-Zone starting to become oily after 3 hours, but nice to know that despite this, my makeup is still intact and if ever there's a sign of fading, it is very insignificant. This is a very nice smoothing primer and may work better on normal skin because oil control is not that good. I just use it with a long- wearing base to delay sebum production longer, but I have to get used to silicone primers-I just don't dig the texture. If you're looking a more affordable counterpart of Smashbox Photofinish Primer, this would be great!

  1. Hmm I'm not very familiar with this brand, but I think ELF has this kind of primer too which is cheaper, and almost have the same ingredients too.

  3. Maybe I haven't tried that much primers but the ones like ELF and Maybelline indeed makes my skin feeling uber smooth. Do you have any Gosh products? I was hoping you'd do a review on blushes because I kept seeing them everywhere on YT. Anyway, thanks for the review. ;)
