THE VERDICT:

I drink hair oils that I can use up one bottle in just two months! I just love how luxurious they feel and of course, how they make my limp, thin, frizzy hair manageable and volumized. It is no secret that my all- time fave is Kerastase Elixir Ultime, but I just have found a cheaper alternative that works equally effective when it comes to taming frizz and keeping my hair soft throughout the day. Enter The Balm Enroot Hair Shine Serum!

THE BALM ENROOT HAIR SHINE SERUM IN DETAIL

This product is part of The Balm's newest venture, Enroot, a flirty hair care line that's safe for color- treated hair. Enroot Hair Shine Serum is supposedly a serum but to me, it is a leave- in product more than anything else. It is made with Green Tea that serves as an antioxidant to keep your hair in its tip-top shape. Other hair- loving ingredients include Bamboo and Rice Protein.

It comes in a soft, easy-to-squeeze plastic bottle and it's in one size only, 118ml. That's a lot for a leave- in product!

Now this clear hair serum/leave-in is pretty thick yet spreadable and truly, a little goes a long, long way. Despite the thick consistency, it doesn't feel heavy nor weigh hair down. It has a tropical floral scent, somewhat reminiscent of sunblock that could be a lil' too strong for some but that's just only in the beginning-when it settles onto your hair, scent mellows down and leaves your hair with a tinge of fragrance. I actually found that the fragrance is effective in getting rid of the smell of smoke and cigarettes in my hair. I just apply it on the mid-section and ends of my hair where frizz and tangles are more prominent.

The Balm advised to apply it on dry hair, but it's pretty thick that it takes a while to be absorbed by my hair strands and makes it look a lil' greasy to boot so I apply it on wet hair and blow-dry afterwards. If you have thin hair like me, it's best to use two pea- sized amounts only. It doesn't really fake shine, but rather enhances the natural shine of your hair. I noticed that it kinda' acts like 'lotion' to my hair because it makes my locks feel really, really soft. My hair feels thicker every time I use it too. The softness pretty much lasts all day, but not really the volume and shine so you might have to carry it around for retouching.

I've been using it for two months and I can say that it doesn't really act as a treatment unlike Kerastase Elixir Ultime, but pretty much does what the former can do: It can detangle, soften, tame, and volumize hair. I still see myself purchasing this product as a daytime leave-in and so that I can prolong my Kerastase hair oils. I also believe that its consistency is good for thicker and curly hair too.
