THE VERDICT:

I swear to God, if I will establish a beauty brand one day, I would definitely include an insect repellant as one of my first products. It's so useful to a mosquito magnet like me and if ever I leave it at home, I'm mosquito food for the rest of the day. :( I just finished my Off Insect Repellant Spray and I'm moving on to something more natural, specifically Abysnthe Bath and Beauty Don't Bug Me Insect Repellant. It's oil- based, which is pretty exciting because I want to know if it fares better than the liquid ones!

ABSYNTHE BATH AND BEAUTY DON'T BUG ME INSECT REPELLANT IN DETAIL

Don't Bug Me is an all- natural mosquito repellant that uses Citronella, nature's best insect repellant. It also contains Lavender and Lemongrass to give it a natural fragrance. It's proudly DEET- free, has smoothing properties, and Abysnthe even claims that it's safe for babies too.

ABSYNTHE BATH AND BEAUTY DON'T BUG ME INSECT REPELLANT IN ACTION

It's an opaque, yellowish liquid that smells like Citronella, but with a hint of Lavender. A dollop goes a long way because it's very concentrated. The oil consistency is a good choice too because it's not as messy and throat- clogging as spray- on liquid repellants, albeit it's too heavy and greasy for daytime use. And since it's made up of pure natural oils, it doesn't get absorbed easily and doesn't contain anything that thins out the oily formula nor takes out the grease. Oh, those with sensitive skin should conduct a patch test too before usage.

I like that it's a body moisturizer-cum-insect repellant and I use it during night time so as to cut down the time I spend on my body care routine. It can repel mosquitos for around 30 minutes to 1 hour, tops, and you'd have to reapply often if you're in a mosquito- infested place. I don't have an offspring yet so I don't know if it's truly safe for babies, but a Blogger friend of mine said that her kids use it and so far, they're loving it!

I thought that the oil- based formula would let the mosquito- repelling fragrance stay longer on my skin, but this isn't the case. Oil is supposed to prolong fragrance on the skin, but then again, maybe it's not the case with natural oils! That, and it's devoid of any 'life- extending' chemicals too.

I would only use this as a night time repellent due to its consistency, plus the lavender scent relaxes me at the same time too. Wish the staying power were a lil' better, but I'd keep it anyway as a milder alternative to my favorite Off Mosquito Repellant. A mosquito repellant is still a mosquito repellant!

  1. I've read great reviews from this brand especially their emu oil and I'm really interested to try some of their products since it is very affordable too. But I think I'll try the Kiele anti-mosquito that you reviewed a couple of days ago first. :)

  2. It's nice that they have a bug repellant with a nice smell, but yeah, like you said, it would have been better if the lasting power of this product would be longer than it's frangrance.

Thanks for the review Ms. M! :D

  4. I have to admit, I'm deterred primarily by the oily consistency. I just hate anything that feels remotely sticky. I'd like to check out their other products though.

  5. I have tried another organic soap wih Citronella (made by a friend of mine as a "Kumikitang kabuhayan project") which also has oils and moisturizer which leaves the skin soft after rinsing. Definitely reminds me of the after shower effect of dove soap. And I think it is less effective than leave-on or spray but I also love the relaxing smell besides the fighting power from mosquitoes.

  7. I think this is the product that I truly need. Lapitin din ako ng mosquitoes Ms.M, and after it bite me, nagiging dark yung mosquito bite because I can't stop myself from scratching the bite whenever I sleep, so at the end dark stubborn scar ang kinalalabasan. I hope this will be available in leading dept stores, will surely buy.

  9. Yeah, that's what I like with oil-based insect repellants, they also act as moisturizers. I use Human Nature's, and so far, I'm loving it.
