FAN MAIL FRIDAYS: Five Good Night Creams For Oily Skin

The BER months are almost here! Gosh, Christmas time is here! I know, I'm exaggerating, but I can't wait for the holidays! :D

Speaking of the holidays, I am once again embarking on a strict workout and diet phase to make me less guilty when I pig out on the holidays. Will update everyone on this soon. Workout is called Zombie Apocalypse workout, btw. ;)

Our FMF for the last Friday of August is from Bel:

Hi Martha!

I have oily to combo skin. What's the best night cream you can recommend? Thank you and more power! I love reading your blogs!

Bel

Hey Bel!

Thank you for being a fan. :)

With your question, I remember a friend who has very oily skin who told me that those who have the same skin type as hers should not use night cream anymore and let the oil suffice in keeping the skin hydrated while sleeping. That may be okay if you don't really care so much about skincare and stuff, but I personally believe that regardless of the skin type, you should use night cream as this product will: 1.) Help stall oil production for a grease- free morning. 2.) Healthier, properly moisturized and hydrated skin. 3.) Prevent carry over of excessive sebum production to the rest of the day.

So yes, night cream can be worn by those with oily skin types too and these are my tried and tested creams that keep my skin hydrated at night yet without making it slick.

1. Olay Regenerist Microsculpting Cream

- Olay has always produced great moisturizers and Regenerist is a new discovery and fave of mine. This rich yet grease- free moisturizer leaves the skin with the right amount of moisture to keep it soft and protected, plus I noticed that my skin looked firmer with this one.

- This famous Japanese brand of moisturizer is very light yet hydrates skin really well. It's very ideal for excessively oily skin and during summer.

3. Tony Moly Naturalth Goat Milk Cream

- This yummy moisturizer is emollient and great for the cold weather. It's made with natural Goat's Milk that nourishes skin from the outside in.

- I love using this product whenever I just popped a pimple or have undergone a facial procedure because it has Antalglicine that yields analgesic effects. It is infused with Hyaluronic Acid as well, a known moisture attracting and maintaining ingredient.

5. Origins Make A Difference Plus+ Regenerating Treatment

- This lightweight, gel moisturizer is surprisingly very moisturizing and it has a relaxing lavender scent, perfect for a good night's sleep.

So these are my top picks. Care to share yours? :)

  1. i am combination of normal and dry skin (normal part: cheeks downward, dry part: t-zone) i can share this to my younger sister who have oily skin, and i think i can suggest Tony Moly Naturalth Goat Milk Cream to her.

    1. Wow! Interested with the one from St. Ives. Sadly, I think my local watsons and drugstores don't carry this product any longer. If they do, it's only the apricot scrub or the mud masque. :p

  2. Okay, you're one of the many local beauty bloggers who just included Olay moisturizers as part of their best moisturizers list. Thank you for convincing me and giving me an idea on what to give my mom for Christmas! (I didn't notice that the BER months are just a few days away!)

I hope you can also make a blog post soon on gift-worthy beauty products, maybe arranged by age or by skin type. That would be most helpful! I always love lists and I hope you can have more soon!

  3. Hi Martha! I have oily skin as well. My favorite is the Neutrogena Hydro Boost Water Gel. I may need to upgrade though because I'm getting older! Your picks sound interesting!

    1. Neutrogena is a good brand. I'm using Olay Aquaction, which I believe is a counterpart of that one from Neutrogena. :)

  4. Thanks for this post! An oily-skinned gal myself, I used to think that I am supposed to skip night cream after toner. A big No! I am currently looking for moisturizers/night creams that will not make me look like an oil slick pan in the morning. Right now, I end up my night regimen with Estee Lauder serum because my then Olay moisturizer (the other kind) made my face really greasy when I wake up. I will definitely try the Olay regenerist cream and see if it will work well with my serum.

    1. This one, Regenerist, doesn't make my face oily in any way despite the thick texture. :)

  5. Hello Martha! I don't apply night cream but I use Celeteque Dermoscience Hydration facial moisturizer as my day and night moisturizer. It's non-greasy, lightweight, and water-based so it's good for oily skin. Not to mention it's affordable, too! Thank you for sharing these products. I especially like Hada Labo Moisturizing Lotion, Bioderma Cicabio Repairing Cream, and Tony Moly Naturalth Goat Milk Cream. :) ~ Starr

  7. Ooooh! I am so lookingforward to your Zombie Apocalypse workout! How time flies so fast. I also love Christmas time. Ahhh.

I agree! Regardless of skin type, everyone needs to use moisturizer. I happen to like emulsions because they're lightweight yet they give enough moisture for my oily skin. My favorite is the Age Defense emulsion from Etude House. I like moisturizers that are not in jar packaging. Much more hygienic. Thanks for this post!

    1. Haha. I'm looking forward to that workout too! :D

Yeah, emulsions are perfect not only for your skin type, but for this weather too. Thanks for sharing your pick. :)

  8. Important thing: Sebum is not equal to moisture. Just like oil and water :D

I recommend Etude House Skin Malgem emulsion as a night cream, it might not be heavy enough for very dry skinned people but it is awesome! Also hypoallergenic and non-comedogenic

My fave from Etude House is the Super Collagen Moistfull Line. That line did wonders to my skin. :)

  9. I also have a combination type of skin and sadly, I have not tried any of the five that you've mentioned above :(
What I do use right now is Pond's Dewy Rose Gel which I use alternately with Myra-E. I loved Burt's Bees Night Radiance Crème though I still have to save up for another purchase =P

  10. I don't quite believe the whole "skin aging starts at 25" but the niggling feeling is enough to make me consider switching up to Olay. The Bioderma and Origins ones seem interesting though

    ReplyDelete

    1. That actually depends. 25 is just the standard for most women; some age faster and some slower, and everything depends on the skin type and lifestyle. :)

Bioderma ftw! Origins is a good contender though. It's a gel cream that's super moisturizing. :)

  11. Sorry, but I am more interested with the Zombie Apocalypse workout , haha! I have a goat's milk moisturizer but it's from HBC. Maybe i'll try Tony Moly's Goat Milk Cream after this one.

  12. I'm using Pond's dewy rose gel night cream too and it works great for my combi skin. I'm so curious about that Tony Moly goat milk. I'm a sucker for anything with milk. :)
