The 3 Keys To Achieve Skin Confidence

Have you seen the new videos by MAXI-PEEL for their Bagong Ganda, Bagong Pag-Asa campaign? They’re pretty encouraging, ha! It’s nice to watch them especially now that I’ve a couple of small zits due to my hormonal cycle!

The latest video that I liked was the one with actor Cris Villanueva and her daughter Zara. In this video, Cris shared Zara’s struggle with Acne and how it affected her confidence, and Cris’s struggle as a father as well because of how he felt helpless with his daughter’s situation.  Cris also revealed how Maxi- Peel changed Zara’s life. Watch the Youtube video:

This video touched my heart the most because of the father-daughter relationship factor. I don’t have a very special bond with my dad unlike Zara, but I have a strong bond with my mom, who acted both as my mom and dad in all these years. Like Zara, I’ve had insecurities while growing up and I vividly remember how I would feel beaten up and helpless because of all the insults hurled at me by some of my classmates. My mother knew all about this no matter how hard I tried to hide it from her and she did all her best to help me physically, emotionally, and mentally. She told me one time that if I want to become the best version of myself, I should work towards it and that jumpstarted the journey to a new me. I began to view myself in a different light, I worked towards being confident, and I took care of myself better like investing in good skin care.

Cris and Zara’s video also made me realize that there are three essential things you need to achieve skin confidence.

1.    A Good Support System

People who are dealing with insecurities such as Acne need more support than you know and telling them “You have bad hygiene”, “Eeew you have so many pimples!”, or “You have such bad skin” won’t help them in any way. In fact, it may even cause them to go into a downward spiral. What they need is positive reinforcement from people, especially from the ones they love. You can only bring out the good in people if you tell them things that will make them feel good.

2.  A Good and-take note-Targeted Skin Care Regimen

THIS. I cannot stress this enough. A good skin care regimen doesn’t have to be expensive to be good. They can be affordable just as long as they’re reputable and most especially, targeted to your skin care concerns. Had I known this whole ‘targeted’ thing when I was still starting out with skin care, I would’ve saved a thousand bucks so I’m telling you know, it is important to know your skin type and concerns before buying certain skin care products to save yourself from wasting money and all the hassle.

3.  Exfoliate

I remember when my Beauty Blogger friends and I talked about Exfoliation. We are the biggest fans of exfoliation and we even think it should be taken out from the structure skin care and given its own category because it TRULY makes a difference to the skin! Exfoliation removes extra dirt that may lead to breakouts and dead skin cells to help your skin utilize skin care products better. If you haven’t been religious with exfoliation, you should be!

Exfoliation is a natural process. We shed dead skin every 28 days to keep the skin healthy. However, due to a lot of factors such as lifestyle, skin type, and age, natural exfoliation can take longer for some people, which in turn causes dead skin cell build up and leads to breakouts. When this happens, you will need the help of exfoliants. Exfoliants come handy because they help facilitate the exfoliation process. There are two kinds of exfoliants: Manual (facial scrub, sponge, towel, buffing grains) and Chemical (Peels).

MAXI-PEEL is one of the popular exfoliants locally. It’s categorized as a chemical peel and only removes dead skin cells.

MAXI-PEEL promises to help you combat acne and reveal new skin in three steps:

Remove- immediately works to loosen dead skin cells
Renew- skin will begin to peel and may yield redness (normal when you use peels), a sign that dead skin cells are coming off.
Reveal- dead skin cells out, new skin in. Your new beauty is revealed.

Dryness is inevitable after exfoliation and regardless of the kind of exfoliant you use so be sure to moisturize afterwards. Also, skin will be at its most sensitive after exfoliation so be sure to wear sunscreen before heading out in the sun.

There’s a MAXI-PEEL variant for every skin type and concern. How do you know which MAXI-PEEL peel is right for you? Here’s a helpful diagram:

So there! These, I believe, are the top 3 keys to achieve skin confidence. If you have and do these, you’ll be on your way to a new skin and new you in no time, just like Zara and I.

  1. I have tried maxipeel exfoliant solution when I was in my 1st year in college. I was so hopeless with my pimples all over my face and gave this a shot. But because I have less knowledge about how important is exfoliating, I stop using it around 1week when my face started peeling because it makes me concious more of my face when I was at school. It makes me scared too at the very first time to experience peeling;)
I've heard how effective maxipeel products, what we need is more knowledge how to use it properly. And ofcourse patience is needed while waiting for the results. Now I need this to gave this another try! Thanks for the 3 tips!

  2. Hi Ms. Martha! I am closest to my Mama most, too. You two look alike, ha. :) Anyway, I just would like to say that you looked like Chrissy Teigen. I was watching an episode of Lip Sync Battle, and when I saw her, I told myself, 'Oh! She looks like Ms. Martha!' Have a good day po. :)

  3. Si mother hawig ni Tetchie Agbayani!

I wish I knew these things when I was younger. I used to suffer to bad acne and I don't have anyone to guide me with my skin woes. Now that I'm older, I made it my responsibility to take care of my youngest sister's skin. I don't want her to suffer like me.
Imagine being told "ang dami mo namang pimples, maghilamos ka kasi!" as if I didn't know and do that already!
Anyway, yeah, I somehow made it my "mission" in life to have my younger relatives have great skin by guiding them of having good skin. :)

  5. I remember that our neighbors had this Maxi peel trend when i was in high school. Some looked better but some might not used the extra strength variant correctly and did not used enough sunblock and looked too white, too peeled. After reading this post i'm reminded again of exfoliation. I got so busy that i forgot that i promised myself about exfoliation but wasn't able to do it regularly.

  6. I am sorry to learn that you went such harrowing experience from people who uttered not so nice words. It can be very frustrating, especially if you're in your teens hearing it from such people. Anyway, they're not worth the hassle because there are other people out there who will love and support you, Ms. Martha. Thanks for creating your beauty blog, doing your reviews, things you are passionate about like food, fashion and of course make up.

Anyway, Maxipeel is a good local brand. I tried it when they started to launch it a long time ago. I also love the Maxi Peel Exfoliant Scrub and Facial Wash. Just a smidgen of the facial scrub, and my skin feels refreshed, tingly, and clean...

  7. Watched the video and I really love its message. I actually love Maxipeel's campaign. However, I'm not a fan of using maxipeel on my face. It's a bit harsh on me and I can't use it outdoors. Mahapdi pag naarawan. I use more gentle exfoliators such as scrubs. I use maxipeel na lang on darker areas of my skin like elbows and knees and it worked naman. :)
