 THE VERDICT:

What do Dr. Andrew Weil and the plant, Mushroom have in common? They're icons.

Dr. Andrew Weil is a force in modern medicine; he is a well- studied doctor who graduated Cum Laude from a biology major with concentration on ethnobotany of medicinal plants in Harvard and specializes in holistic health and integrative medicine; on top of being a doctor, he is also considered a health "guru", successful author, and an entrepreneur spawning various brand partnerships, healthcare services, and products which constitute his name.

Mushroom, just like Dr. Weil, is a force as well both in traditional and modern medicine; since the ancient times, this plant is treasured not only as food, but as a medicinal plant that's used on the skin and hair; it features various antioxidant and anti-aging compounds, is rich in Vitamin D, and is known for its excellent anti-inflammatory properties.

Together, they form Origins Mega Mushroom line, a collection to calm irritated skin. Mega Mushroom Relief Soothing Treatment Lotion is the best seller and I experienced why as it helps calm throbbing skin, soothe away redness, cleanses, and hydrates at the same time.

ORIGINS DR. ANDREW WEIL MEGA MUSHROOM RELIEF SOOTHING TREATMENT LOTION IN DETAIL

ORIGINS DR. ANDREW WEIL MEGA MUSHROOM RELIEF SOOTHING TREATMENT LOTION IN ACTION

Why is it called a Soothing Lotion and how does it differ from a Toner? Soothing Lotion may look like a Toner, but it's a treatment in liquid form that's applied after a toner as it's supposed to address skin problems rapidly due to its easily- absorbed, liquid composition. To me, it works both ways and when I use this, I don't feel the need to use toner anymore because it makes my skin feel fresh and clean anyway; if you need a deeper clean, however, use a separate toner.

This product has a texture that's similar to Micellar Water: it's not quite an emulsion and not quite water; it is Lavender- scented and is calming to the senses, but it contains a handful of essential oils so stay away if you find something that's a known irritant for your skin or if you're allergic to any kind of essential oil in general (given this, can someone explain to me why this product is recommended for sensitive skin?).; it leaves skin fresh, makes it feel healthy and supple, and combats the drying effects of toners and facial cleansers.

As for its skin soothing effects, I find it to be particularly effective in minimizing the sting and tenderness of zits and reddened areas so I rub it on when I have them. However, I noticed that in the early days of usage, I got a few whiteheads, but glad they went away after a few days; my skin had adjusted to it. That said, I won't recommend it to acne- prone skin.

This product is indeed great for those with normal and dry skin types, especially the ones that are easily irritated yet can tolerate almost any skin care products; it's actually a good skin- soothing product as long as your skin likes it!

    1. You're welcome!

P.S. Looks like they're hives; use a gentle, antibacterial cleanser first. :)

  3. I was swayed by the promises of products with natural ingredients.I am a certified toner user that's why I'm curious of this Origins soothing lotion as sometimes I have itchy red patches and rashes. Knowing that this soothes skin sounds fantastic. I just wondering if it absorbs well on a cotton? Because it's not liquidy. Great review BTW!

  5. When I read "relief soothing treatment" I was hoping this product was some kind of cream that can be used for itchiness or eczema-related rashes :( I was wondering if you know any of those creams that are readily available in PH, Ms. Martha. I know of The Honest Company's Organic Healing Balm but they don't have it here and they don't ship either.

    1. You can try VMV's soothing creams; one of the gentlest creams in my opinion. :)

    1. Shiseido Ibuki is prolly the closest to this one in terms of formula as both utilizes mushroom extracts :)

  7. I'm recently getting some acne so I'm pretty sure this is not for me. :/ But the name of the product itself is so intriguing. :)
