Bare Ready with Lay Bare

I like wearing skirts, shorts, and basically anything that reveals my legs because according to a lot of people, they have great shape and texture so I should flaunt them (and so I did!). A friend once pointed out that I have uneven skin tone on my legs; that surprised me a lot because I exfoliate my legs weekly plus I take real good care of them and eventually, I found out that the culprit was leg hair; and so I waxed them once using a DIY Sugar Waxing kit, fell in love with the smoothness, and finally, the skin on my legs began to look more even. I tried to wax my legs myself until I got busy so it became infrequent and besides, I couldn’t seem to do it neatly and evenly anyway so I decided to stop haha!

I’ll be turning to a waxing salon from now on for leg waxing, but I want it to be affordable and at the same time, reputable. Regular salons are okay, but they only offer waxing as a side service; I want a true waxing salon that prioritizes waxing only for a more expert approach.

When Lay Bare approached me to try out their services, I said yes because I thought they are the perfect fit: professional waxing salon, affordable, plus accessible to boot; another reason why I’m eager to support this brand is because it is proudly Pinoy, founded by Filipinos!

The branch I went to is at Waltermart Makati; it’s tucked at the topmost level where there aren’t a lot of people moseying, thus it felt more private. It even felt more private because the rooms are walled; I think this branch needs to expand.

First things first! Lay Bare asked me to sign a waiver form for them to know about all my latest skin- related concerns and medications so that I will have a breezier waxing experience before and after.

I was surprised yet pleased to know that Lay Bare, despite their positioning as the most affordable waxing salon chain, offers something that pricier waxing salons have such as the walled rooms and waiver form; nice to know that they value privacy and safety!

At least the rooms feel just right for one person. My room is clean and so are the sheets; there was no bothersome smell that lingered in the air too. FYI, even if you will just opt for their cheapest service, you will still get a room!

Waxing essentials in my room: Lay Bare’s proprietary soothing cream, powder, and toiletries.

Waxing time!

I opted for full leg wax (there’s the half leg option too). Say hi to my hair!

Here’s the superstar, Lay Bare’s exclusive Cold Jelly Wax. Why Cold Jelly Wax? To minimize nicks, cuts, and burns; it also has the skin- caring trio of Calamansi to lighten skin, Sugar to exfoliate, and Honey to provide antioxidant, antibacterial, and anti-aging effects; it is a really tacky wax that the small amount pictured on top was enough to remove the hair all over my legs from the front, side, to the back parts; if ever the client will need additional wax, the aesthetician will take another fresh batch; FYI, their wax is always freshly- prepared in every session. The wax is part of Lay Bare’s Through Care system that ensures you’re not only hair- free, but Bare- ready (to know more about Thorough Care, visit this LINK).

First, my legs were cleansed with a damp towel. Next, cornstarch (a better alternative to powder) was sprinkled on my legs, which is mandatory if you’re using Cold Wax (powder helps remove water and oil for a more precise hair removal). Waxing begins. Beverly, my sweet aesthetician for the day, wore her fresh gloves, scooped the wax out of the pot, and started using it on my skin, carefully and skillfully removing the hair from my legs in a kneading motion; the wax could only cover a small area in every strip, thus the session took a while, but it’s safer and more precise. Beverly tried her best to finish my session quickly, but she still managed to come up with a really clean finish so props to her! How’s the pain level? I thought you’d ask. It’s 4/10; the pain only felt like pins and needles on my skin; I have to admit that I was surprised in the beginning because it’s new to me and my system, but I was able to adjust to the treatment fairly quickly. I have to note that I have pretty sparse hair on my legs and I’m used to waxing, and these factors contributed to my rating; for first timers and those with dense hair, I guess it’s safe to grade the pain at 6.5-7/10.

My leg after the full leg waxing treatment. Eureka! It looks so clean, skin tone looks brighter and more even, and it’s super duper smooth that I could not stop touching them when I was in my car already!

Left: Before; Right: After

Overall, I’m very pleased with my first- ever Lay Bare treatment and my legs have met their match! Now I’m more confident to wear my favorite shorts and skirts because I don’t just have legs that are hair- free; they’re smooth, hair- free, and supple, totally bare ready!

Full Leg Wax is at P550.00 for Women and P600.00 for Men; packages are available too. Interested to try Lay Bare? With over 80 branches nationwide, I’m pretty sure you will find one near you. Just visit LAY BARE on Facebook for more information about their services.

  1. I'm so used to shaving and chicken skin that when I had my underarm waxed a few weeks ago, I couldn't believe how smooth my skin is!
I decided right then that I should allot a budget for my waxing needs, and Lay Bare was my first option because most of my friends go to Lay Bare. I'm excited to try that cold wax! :)

  2. Coincidentally, I just had my first brazillian in their SM Ecoland branch yesterday! It wasn't as painful as I thought. I think their staffs are really skilled-- they are very nice and accommodating. Did you buy their products? I hope you can do a review on them too. I want to try them but I have enough exfoliators already.

    1. If you have really hairy legs and active hair growth, you have to maintain it every month; it's an easier form of maintenance compared to shaving as with the latter, you have to do it every week once you start with it! :)
