 THE VERDICT:

Okay, I just realized now, Mary Kay indeed has good bases. I've had the epiphany after using Mary Kay Sheer Mineral Pressed Powder, a preferred setting powder of mine as of late because it gives light yet considerable coverage and oil control.

MARY KAY SHEER MINERAL POWDER IN IVORY 2 IN DETAIL

According to Mary Kay, this powder is translucent, silky, luminous, and yields an oil- absorbing layer to keep makeup looking fresh the whole day for up to 8 hours. Smoothing, gentle, and infused with Vitamin E extract, this powder imparts care and coverage in one go. It comes in two shades only locally: Ivory 2 and Beige 1.

Can I just say...this set is such a steal! You get a compact, powder, and set of 2 cosmetic sponges for P699.00 only; this same set with cost around P1,800.00+ in other brands, but the thing is, this is pressed powder; other brands would normally offer powder foundation with this makeup format. Well, whether or not this is okay actually depends on your powder needs and preference; I need more pressed powder in my life so this is okay with me.

MARY KAY SHEER MINERAL POWDER IN IVORY 2 IN ACTION

Left: foundation and cream contouring products; Right: products set with Mary Kay Sheer Mineral Powder

This silky powder is not really sheer in terms of coverage; as you can see, it is visible on my skin and has a slight tone correcting effect; it yields light to medium finish. The sheer term refers to the feel in my opinion because this thing is pretty airy on the skin. Finish is soft matte with a blur effect; lookie, it covered up my pores! Ivory 2 is a light medium beige with neutral undertone; it's a shade lighter than my skin tone, but since Mary Kay's shades tend to be in the warm spectrum, it looked okay on my skin.

However, on its own, it doesn't yield powder foundation- like coverage even if I said it doesn't have sheer coverage; lemme explain; consistency is not sheer because it is meant to blur out pores, but it is just lightly tinted; this explains why despite its not-so-sheer coverage, it can't completely conceal discolorations when used alone.

Staying power is good: it controls oil for up to 3 hours and doesn't cake even when you sweat or oil up; it still needs to be retouched during wear. It's unscented and feels fresh and light on the skin, perfect for this excruciating summer heat. One caveat is shade selection is poor.

This is one of the nicest setting powders I used in terms of feel, texture, and finish; it doesn't feel cheap too despite the price! Mary Kay's bases are great to try because I've never been disappointed by the ones I've tried; I just wish that there will be powder foundation next time!

  2. Mary Kay products are really good so despite being a pressed powder, it would still be given a spotlight.

  4. The difference is real! It looks promising. I've been on a look out for powders because summer is here and oil is everywhere. I've been using essence's powder and so far, it is fine for me. I would try this one out when I have extra money. HA.

  5. Di pa ako nakakatry ng products nila.. Pero dahil sa kakabasa at kakapanuod ko ng mga reviews about Mary Kay, masasabi ko na the best yung mga products nila. At sa review mo na to, kita naman na maganda talaga to. Sana lang madali lang hanapin yung store nila. Kasi never pa ako nakakita ng Mary Kay counter.

    1. Mary Kay doesn't have stores because it's a direct selling company; you can purchase their products directly from a Mary Kay Beauty Consultant. :)

  6. Been wanting to invest in Mary Kay products and I think this will be the first one I'll try. But I do hope that there will be a shade that will suit me. Haha. The coverage looks good and 3 hrs protection from oiliness is not bad at all, plus it doesn't cake!! Bonus point for that one Mary Kay!! I'm also a pressed powder kinda girl so ai think I'd be changing to this one na as soon as I hit the can of my old compact. :)
