WHOAAAAAA. 7 YEARS!
Can I share something?
Did you know that I had thoughts of shutting down my blog when I started Digify, the business that I've been telling you about last year? Digify is clearly a baby; it needs all my attention and the business model require loads of time, effort, and brain cells, as with all start- up and established businesses.
But a day in a coffee shop changed it all.
At BGC, I was having coffee in one my fave coffee shops and a lady approached me; she's about 5'0 in height, has shoulder- length hair, morena, and the square spectacles perfectly sat on her small, round face; "The Beauty Junkee?" she mused and I replied with an awkward smile: "Yes." It still bemuses me every time someone approaches me in public and then I realize, oh, it's the Internet and my blog. Her name is Pamela; a nursing student. We had a pretty quick conversation: She just told me she reads my blog, trusts my reviews, and before she left, she asked for a photo together and mused "I hope you don't stop blogging; you seriously help a lot of morena women love their skin every day."
That changed my mind about quitting and shutting down The Beauty Junkee.
To be honest, this blog isn't earning more than it should because that means commercializing myself and selling my opinion; in business terms, when something isn't working, let it go, move on, find something else more profitable. At this point, Digify is more profitable and if I let go of The Beauty Junkee, I can expand the former better. But sometimes, there are things that you must do for your soul: It would be great if Pamela's kind words can be converted into currency so it can pay for the expenses of the blog, but it can't be; but somehow, I did not mind; that felt okay and really nice, as nice as buying a swell item or going on a vacation; being of service is a soul purpose of every human being and it's something that no amount of money or metrics can buy and gauge, but is essential in keeping you alive and moving forward.
Thank you, Pamela, and to all those who trusted this blog; it makes me feel so good that in my own ways, I am of service and contribute to loving yourselves bit by bit, day by day; you make me feel alive more than you know. :)

YOU ANSWER TO THE QUESTION: What I like most about the Beauty Junkee is the fact that she's helped me love and accept my morena skin. In a country where the fairer/whiter you are, the more beautiful you seem to be, one cannot help having a mindset wherein one should hate her morena skin and do everything in her power to make it lighter. Ever since I was in grade school, my classmates would make fun of me because of my skin color. I learned that when people talk behind my back, their code name for me was "chocolate". Also during high school and through out college, people would still call me out because I was morena. My friends joke about me being the "dark lord" or call me "black beauty". All of these made me think that being morena was a curse that I should fight hard to get rid of. Whitening soap and lotion commercials didn't help either. It further fueled my desire to become lighter, whiter. Amidst all the commercials and blogs sharing their best whitening secrets, I found TBJ. It was refreshing to see someone who embraces her skin color and not trying to change it. I felt happy to find someone I can relate to. It help me realize that being morena is a blessing that I should love and embrace. That's what I love about the Beauty Junkee. She has helped me become more confident with my own skin without having to change a thing. Thank you!

The Beauty Junkee is actually one of the very few blogs I trust when it comes to affordable beauty products. I consider myself a practical consumer, and any seasoned beauty addict knows that when it comes to reviews on such, Martha Sta. Barbara reigns supreme! As someone who lives from paycheck to paycheck, I can’t afford to buy high-end make-up all the time. It feels good to know there’s have a blog like yours I can rely on when I need to upgrade (or even downgrade) my vanity dresser and kikay kit.
What I really love most about your blog is that you always put your readers first. You produce the most genuine and creative reviews and you’re not afraid to tell which products are worth spending money on. For the past couple of years, I’ve been receiving compliments at work for my clearer complexion and, sometimes, even the make-up I’m wearing. The truth is, I only swear by the products you recommend. You make a lot of women realize that we don’t need to shell out thousands of Pesos to achieve beautiful skin. So thank you, Martha! What do you like most about The Beauty Junkee?
The main reason why I love your blog is because it makes me feel empowered.
I am empowered as a consumer. It is not a secret that it can be very difficult to find makeup that would suit morena skintone. With your honest and comprehensive reviews, you have kept me from wasting my money on products that will not work on me, as well as make sound decisions on which products I can invest in. God knows how many wrong shades of foundation you have saved me from. It is also through you that I am able to try new trends. For example, when you posted a picture of you in Matte Me Birthday Suit, I knew that I just had to have it. It didn't matter that I had to wait for weeks to get my hands on it because it was always out of stock. I still get a barrage of compliments whenever I wear that particular shade, and I would not have been able to find it without you.
I am empowered because I have learned to love the way I am. For so many years, I was led to believe that being morena is unpretty and everyone must strive to look fair. It also did not help that I am not skinny. No matter how hard I worked out and disciplined myself, I still felt fat. When I read about your #ProjectFitMe2016, I realized that my motivation was so misguided and unrealistic. Thanks to years of reading your blog, I have finally learned to be confident in my own skin.
Finally, I am empowered to strive to be more passionate in doing the things that I love. I find it so inspiring that you chose not to let go of this blog even if there is a great opportunity for you to earn more money with your new business. You even post more than twice a day! What I like most about The Beauty Junkee? It is the simplicity in it's contents that helps me and other women out there to be confidently beautiful with a heart. But aside from the MS.Universe reason, I love TBJ because it helps me to love and appreciate myself with or without all the glamour of make up and extravagant clothing. Anyway, to answer the question, here are the few things I love about reading this blog:
- you're goal-oriented and loves to share them. I noticed it especially this year, you even share your short term goals to achieve your long term ones. From fitness to money saving.
- your money saving strategy! Hehe i copied you and set a budget for my daily meals.
- you're not afraid to look crazy! "That Olay toner that is so light you want to drop some in your eyes", see how crazy?
- and lastly, your makeup tutorials! I can't perfect that half smokey eyes I see other girls do, but when I tried your trick of putting a dot on the corner of my eyes did the job. Now my half smokey eye makeup looks more controlled and doesn't look like I have panda eyes. :)
What I like about your blog is you're a model to a lot of Morena women like me. Everytime you model a make up I can say "oh that's how it will look at me if I'm gonna use or do it too" what I mean here is if the model has white skin tone it will be hard for us Morena women to relate to her topic. So don't give up what you're doing because you're really inspiring and helping a lot of women.

Since I've been addicted to makeup/ beauty products, I have this habit of reading reviews before purchasing. that is how I learned about The Beauty Junkee.
What I love about TBJ or should I say, the reason that keeps me coming back to this, is the unbiased and detailed reviews that I get. I appreciate every detail Ms Martha. I also like Fan Mail Fridays , especially if I can relate to the readers questions. Top of the mind favorite post as of the moment is your comparison between Original and Fake Longchamp. Thank God because you saved me buying a fake one.

I am also very much like Pat because there are only few Filipinas with morena skin tones who have a blog and that shares and reviews products in the Philippines. Martha inspired me to put up my own blog too because I know that most of the bloggers have fair/light skin tones, yet majority of Filipinos are medium to dark. thebeautyjunkee keeps me updated on the latest trends, and the format of the blog is random. There are different topics to read every time. I love the eyeshadow tutorials most especially, and of course, the swatches and reviews of makeup products! What do you like most about The Beauty Junkee?
What I love about The Beauty Junkee mainly is her passion for empowering women, making them feel beautiful inside and out. The first time I met her is at a winners meetup at BGC. I was one of the winners of the The Beauty Junkee Sixth Anniversary Giveaway. I saw a woman who walks her walk, and talks her talk. I was starstruck afterwards. During the meetup, I found a warm person in Martha. She's funny, chatty, and easy to be with.It's because of The Beauty Junkee that I started to write again by creating my blog called Philippines Etcetera at the height of the Tanim Bala scam. It's a work in progress, but I know I just have to keep doing what I love to do. I love another initiative of the blog when The Beauty Junkee did a pay- it- forward gesture of posting an article on the importance of creating a portfolio for your blog to present to potential clientele. It has never crossed my mind to do that. All I know is blog writing. I realized I still have to learn in the business of blogging.
Secondly, I love The Beauty Junkee's comprehensive reviews on a multitude and plethora of accessories, food, beauty products, places and services that she features, keeping the fun factor in her writing. It's like I am talking to my best friend when I read it. I enjoyed The Beauty Junkee's posts on discerning the genuine article from bootlegged versions of products, even adding photo captions to prove the point. I'm a visual learner, so the photo captions matter. Now I can differentiate which is which. I also love the OOTD and FOTD portions of the blog, which gives me ideas on how to put on makeup, and what type of clothing to put together. Love the Lady Boss OOTD that was featured previously.The Beauty Junkee has become a resource for me on the topic of beauty, fashion, and lifestyle in general. I refer to it from time to time.It's a bookmark in the Firefox browser that I'm using. I find her recommendations useful. One product she has recommended that I'm now using is the Pantene 3 Minute Miracle Conditioner. It has done wonders for me, making my hair less frizzy, and I thank The Beauty Junkee for it.
Overall, The Beauty Junkee has made me a beautiful and a happy person inside and out. I wish for more fruitful ventures for Ms. Martha and her blog, more followers, and opportunities as well. Happy 7 Years to The Beauty Junkee. Cheers!

Answer to the Question: What I like the most about The Beauty Junkee is how you honestly share your reviews in products we might be interested in. I love the ratings and other details you included in your reviews like the price and where to get it. I also like that you're a morena. Everytime I am interested in a product, I check first if you have any reviews regarding that, for me to see which shade is matches your skintone and if it worked for you. Good thing you have search function in your website. :) I also like the Sumptuous Sundays posts because I'm really interested in exploring new restaurants. I also like you Fan Mail Fridays posts. What I like most of the Beauty Junkee is that not only your making this blog just for yourself. You are doing this as a way of inspiring every filipina to be at their best. Reading your posts, your reviews of make up give us the idea of the product. Its like were having a consultations from you on how the products could be if we used it ourselves :) You're updating us with the different products that are out that we can use. I've been a follower of this blog since I was in college and now that I'm working and it has come a long, long way.
What I love most about The Beauty Junkee is that she doesn't just feature very detailed makeup reviews, it's like she's your GO-TO PERSON (more like a sister) when you need help when it comes to beauty/makeup, fashion, or travel. Usually when I buy or do something, I do a lot of research first. PLUS she covers both local and foreign products that'll suit everyone's budget.
I also love the How-To's and Fan Mail Fridays wherein she interacts with her readers and help solve their beauty dilemmas. I hope you can do makeup tutorials too, if you have the time. Keep on inspiring us and please, please don't ever think of shutting your blog. We love you and your blog so much :)

What I love about TBJ is the sincere first impressions and the very informational reviews that I always get when I read your blog. It’s like getting an advice from a big sister who knows very well about makeup and skincare. When I want to buy something beauty related, I always go and check out your blog first if the product went well with or if you have loved a product, might as well give it a shot too! I’ve learned to love and be happy and contented with my God-given skin tone because of you. We don’t need those whitening creams, we just need to moisturize and also for sun protection. Hehe. Also, Your motivation to be fit inspired me too to go and have a workout. I love that at the end of your day, you still manage to workout. And that inspired be to take really good care of my body. I had to admit, my first love would be makeup but I learned from you that having a good skincare is important too. Now, im more obsessed with skincare! Haha.

Way back 2009 blogging became my breathing space.. this became my stress reliever from being discriminated from work.. and by reading your blog during my break time makes me feel energized and motivated. I LOVE EVERYTHING from TBJ. From your honest reviews and opinion for a low-end and high-end brand.. from your travel posts that takes us to were you have been (at feeling ko talaga nakatravel na rin ako just by reading ang seeing pics) from your recipe posts (I miss that ms m) from posting your house pets.. from your Sumptuous Sundays na talaga namang nakakagutom.. from your makeup tutorials (lalo na ang eyemakeups) at syempre ang iyong signature billion dollar brows! From your OOTDs and HAULS (my favorite) from your monthly favorites na hinuhulaan ko kung ano sa mga previous post mo ang makakasama dun (madalas tumatama ako sa two hanggang three items)
Honestly lahat ng dapat matutunan from picking the right foundation, concealer, proper application, and mix and matching ng eyemakeup and lipstick lahat yan dito ko natutunan..
But my most favorite is the “Coffee Conversation” (namimiss ko ito ms m!) buti na lang naka bookmark ito sa aking pc hehe lalo na yung and the one that got me is the one you’ve posted last January 28, 2013, “COFFEE CONVERSATIONS: On why you don’t have the thing you desire the most yet.” Your post inspires me (up to now), by reading that, it made me think.. I may have “many things that I want in life” but they weren’t given yet.. maybe you were right, maybe Im not yet ready.. and I have to prepare myself and I know I couldn’t force it either.. it would take time.. and in right time when Iam totally ready, I know God will provide “that thing” my heart desired the most siguro pine-prepare palang ako ni Lord..

What I like most about The Beauty Junkee is the variety of topics being covered on the blog. It's not all about makeups and skin care, but also about travel, food and most especially about health. I was once into fitness, I was doing yoga and weightlifting until my last trimester but after giving birth to my youngest daughter, I somehow lost my will to exercise. I lost all the motivation and just do excuses after excuses (some are valid but still not a reason to gorge on food) on why I won't workout that day. Everytime I back read your posts about your fitness posts/journey, I get a little motivated (the will to move starts from one's self!) and try my best to go back in my exercise game. I am still struggling to go back to clean eating and daily exercise but TBJ helps me a lot in ways I could never put into words as clearly as I want it to. This blog is like a concerned sister whom I love to talk to about food, makeups, travels. The sister that would tell stories that I can relate to because I've been there or maybe I am going through the same things too. The sister who will be the one to tell me to move my lazy butt whenever I am depressed and unmotivated. Thank you so much. Also, Happy 7th anniversary to your blog. More power!

I grew up boyish and I have no interest with make up at all. But when I started working I need to be presentable to my employer and clients and that’s when my make up journey began. Since I have no one to talk to about my burning curiosity with make up (my mom was not into make up also) I searched the net and there I stumbled your blog. What I love about your blog is how diverse your topics are. I know that your main focus is skincare and make up but you also share to us your work ethics, OOTD’s, health, fitness and lastly your travel adventures. I love how you share tidbits of your life which is really inspiring to me. I may not have my own company (yet hehe) but reading your posts makes me think “Wow. Kaya pala to ma achieve!” I also love how you balance your posts especially on make up and skincare. There are articles about HG luxurious products but you also post affordable items and dupes too! What I like most about The Beauty Junkee, is that she is true to her posts,it may be good or bad but she will tell you everything that she know. She reviewed from low end to high end products, so I have an option since I'm not into too expensive products, thanks to her my awareness to skin care became broader and I am now wise in choosing skincare and make-ups. Not to mention because of her 1 million dollar eyebrow tip, I was able to make my own "1 hundred dollar eyebrow" (so far, hahaha!) I got a lot of compliments and was able to help other women to achieve that kind of look.

I love Beauty Junkee simply because she is one of the reasons why I got into make-up and beauty blogging. Back in my college days, I didn't have any close friends who loved make-up as much as I do. I basically spent hours just reading blog reviews and anything make-up related from beauty bloggers. I have a lot of favorite TBJ posts which really helped me in pursuing my dream of becoming a beauty blogger and make-up enthusiast. I've been an avid fan of Ms. Martha ever since and I still get starstrucked whenever I see her in events I get the chance to attend to. TBJ had a great influence in my life. I remember talking to Ms. martha about different things, From make-up to passion and even bullying. She was there to give advices even if it was just on facebook. Her thoughts really helped me pursue what I loved doing. I'm happy to see her inspire more filipinas and help them with their daily lives may it be make-up or life goals. I've seen her transform from a very reliable beauty blogger to an inspiring businesswoman that she is now. :) Though social media nowadays can be pretty annoying, I still look forward to her posts as it exudes positivity and also acts as a reminder for me to ALWAYS believe in myself and that working hard will definitely lead you to success. I really hope that someday she can share about their Digify journey/ story and how it affected their daily lives. What I like about The Beauty Junkee?
I like that Martha likes to experiment. She tries on everything, be it makeup or fashion. I also like her selfies on IG as she is not afraid to look silly once in a while. When it comes to her blogs posts, I like the fun and lightheartedness feel on her blog. She also knows how to connect to her readers and fans and I think that is most important. Of course I admire her billion-dollar eyebrows, and I would love to learn from her personally because I have spent years and years perfecting mine but it was always a hit and miss (actually mostly a miss, haha!) Sometimes my eyebrows look like angry birds lolololol!
I was lucky enough to be part of her third anniversary giveaway simple meet and greet a few years ago, and I am stoked to see her grow her blog empire. She is an inspiration to all and not just to women.

What I like most about The Beauty Junkee is the quality, up to date, reliable and unbiased product reviews. TBJ blog is my go to place if I want to try on some new products. I first came to know about Happy Skin on your blog, Thanks Ms. Martha, I have found most of my Holy Grail lippies and bases in that brand. More than beauty reviews, tips and tricks I also look forward to personal and practical posts, I remember reading your 12 Month Money Challenge for freelancers, I like your practical and doable approach, since then, I have practiced it, missed out on some months but glad that I saved some money on the bank for rainy days. I also like your travel and food blog posts, I tried out Churreria La Lola because I saw it here and Luljetta's, Pinto Art Museum and Sip and Gogh are just some of the itineraries for this year. What I like most about The Beauty Junkee is the quality, up to date, reliable and unbiased product reviews. TBJ blog is my go to place if I want to try on some new products. I first came to know about Happy Skin on your blog, Thanks Ms. Martha, I have found most of my Holy Grail lippies and bases in that brand. More than beauty reviews, tips and tricks I also look forward to personal and practical posts, I remember reading your 12 Month Money Challenge for freelancers, I like your practical and doable approach, since then, I have practiced it, missed out on some months but glad that I saved some money on the bank for rainy days. I also like your travel and food blog posts, I tried out Churreria La Lola because I saw it here and Luljetta's, Pinto Art Museum and Sip and Gogh are just some of the itineraries for this year. TBJ has influenced me in so many ways that's why I'm a proud blog reader since 2014. I already saw you in person back in 2015 in Ms. Liz's blog anniversary, I can say you really are a beautiful person inside out. I want to meet you again and spend time learning from you. I hope I would be blessed enough to be with you as you celebrate another milestone in your Blog. P.S Please don't stop writing, keep empowering women and us, your readers are always here for you.
